"You’re lucky you don’t need to get stitches on this bite." Serena mused as she began putting on the herbal paste Davis had made for her on Theo’s wounds. "How long has it been bleeding like this?"
Theo let out a hiss of pain as she covered the bite wound on his shoulder before he replied, "It’s been bleeding on and off... You seriously need to stop worrying. I’m not going to die from injuries like this."
"That’s what they all say..." Serena muttered before letting out a sigh. She was quiet for a mont as she worked before she asked, "Have you told Elder Samuel about the rootless beastn?"
Because those two rootless beastn that Theo encountered might not be the only ones lingering around the forest. There could be more around and the village needed to be put on alert.
Maybe she should set a few traps around the village. She’d been putting that off, not wanting any of the villagers to accidentally stumble into one of her traps. That would end in death.
If she was going to do it, she needed good reason to make them without raising a few eyebrows. After all, she was going to need to tell them where she placed the traps so they could avoid those areas.
"Of course." Theo answered. "I told him about it before coming back to the hut. He’s going to have extra guards on duty and make sure they’re on high alert for anything strange."
"That’s good... We don’t need to worry about that then." Serena said. She then dipped her fingers into a bowl holding the herbal paste and mused, "Once I’m done here, you should rest. I’ll deal with the at and make lunch... Also, you don’t need to go out tomorrow."
"I think you’re going too far there..." Theo murmured.
"Don’t argue with ." Serena retorted before he could continue. "Hunting is no easy task and you could make your injuries worse if you tear sothing while hunting. And what will happen if you run into more rootless beastn? Can you confidently say you can deal with it all without making your wounds worse?"
Theo remained quiet, pursing his lips. He knew Serena’s words had so truth to them. Hunting while being injured was never good. There was a massive risk of making things worse or even getting yourself killed.
However...
"I can’t just stop hunting." Theo stated aloud. "We need to prepare for the cold season and have way too little food to survive it. I need to keep hunting before all the prey start migrating to warr regions or begin hibernating."
"I get that... But can you seriously not take one day off." Serena argued, placing the last of the herbal paste on Theo. "At least give your wounds a little ti to heal. Besides, I can always get more plants to substitute whatever at we’re missing. If we make them into stew or soup, food can be stretched further."
"But-" Theo started only to get interrupted by Serena.
"If you’re so worried about hunting, then get that bird beastman to do it in your place." Serena grumbled, moving away from Theo and setting down the wooden bowl in her hand before she washed them in lukewarm water. "He owes us a debt anyway and should be fit enough to hunt by now. You can rest while he hunts for us. Problem solved."
Theo opened his mouth, only to close it as he thought over her words. He originally planned to have Jason go monster hunting with him in the rainy season, but he guessed this worked too.
They could actually hunt even more prey if he made use of Jason’s flying ability once he recovered and Serena would stop nagging him about not going out. The snow leopard beastwoman was being way too dramatic about this all.
Injuries like his were commonplace and not sothing one needed to go crazy about. His healing abilities would have him back to normal within two days.
Yet Serena had insisted on getting herbs to treat his wounds and even had Davis check his injuries. It was a complete waste of precious food. They were lucky Davis only took half the normal paynt.
And that was only because Serena refused to not pay him for the herbs. The rabbit beastman tried to tell her it was fine and that he could easily get more, but she made him take paynt.
Sighing, Theo finally said, "Fine... I guess that could work. But I’m going back to normal after tomorrow."
One day was as much as he was willing to compromise. Any more and it would just be wasting precious ti they needed to prepare for the cold season.
"Fine. But you have to promise you won’t do a thing." Serena stated. "I’ll have Kiro keep an eye on you while I’m out."
"You can’t be serious..." Theo groaned. "I don’t need a cub looking after ."
"Then behave." Serena murmured with a faint smile. She picked up the bucket with dirty water and added, "Anyway, I’m going to throw this out and get more water. Oh and speak to Jason before I co back... You’ll be fine right?"
"Yes, I’ll be fine." Theo rolled his eyes. "Like I said, I’m not dying. If anything, my nose is hurting from the sll of the herbs on ."
"Too bad. You need to keep them on if you don’t want an infection." Serena murmured. "Watch the fire for would you?"
Theo nodded his head in understanding and with that Serena went off to get more water. When she got to the village center, Kiro, who she sent away to go play, ran over to her to ask if Theo was okay.
She told him Theo was fine and resting and that she was off to get so clean water. She needed to start making lunch and sort out the leftover at before it got spoiled.
It wasn’t so hot that it would spoil in a few hours like in the rainy and hot season, but she also didn’t want to leave it out for too long. Better to lower their chances of getting sick on spoiled at.
Kiro offered to co with her, but she told him to continue playing since she had other things to do too. He nodded his head in understanding before running off to his friend. Once he was gone, Serena headed to the river.
It took her several minutes to get to the river and as she walked, she noticed that the guards around had increased already. Elder Samuel sure was quick on acting on Theo’s words about the rootless beastn sighting.
When Serena returned from the river, she went straight to Healer Kai’s hut where Jason was currently staying while he healed up.
She knew it probably would have been better to first go there before going to fetch water, but she liked the weight. It was a nice way to build her strength in a quiet way.
Davis opened the hut door and was surprised to find her there. He glanced around her and worryingly asked, "Did sothing happen?"
He was sure Theo’s injuries were minor and just needed so ointnt at most to keep the wounds from getting infected. They’d probably heal within two days based on Theo’s strength.
It wasn’t cause for any worry.
"Nothing happened." Serena answered quickly. "I’m actually looking for Jason. Is he here?"
Upon hearing his na, Jason peeked out from behind Davis and raised an eyebrow, asking, "Who’s looking for ?"
"I am." Serena responded. "I’d like to call in a favor if possible."
"Hmm? Oh I rember you... You’re that grouch’s mate." Jason mused, making Davis sigh as his words.
"I’m going inside. Yell if you need anything." Davis murmured, heading back inside.
Once he was gone, Jason turned his attention to Serena. He still had so injuries covering his body, but they looked more like angry red marks. Serena bet a few would leave scars.
But other than that, he was fully healed up. No bandages or herbs covering his body. He looked much better than when she saw him last, it was almost scary. Beastn’s healing abilities were crazy.
"So, what do you need?" Jason asked, breaking Serena’s train of thought.
"Theo’s injured, so I’d like to ask if you could help us with hunting tomorrow. We still have a bit to go with stockpiling and Theo won’t take the day off unless soone else does it." Serena explained.
I would do it myself, but I doubt that would go down well. Serena thought to herself. Especially with rootless beastn being around. That’s asking for trouble.
"Don’t you have another mate that can help?" Jason asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
"My other mate is dead. I wouldn’t have co here if I didn’t need the favor." Serena muttered. "So, will you do it or not?"
Jason sucked in a breath, not expecting that response. "I didn’t..."
"I know." Serena answered. "So..."
"Well I guess I can help." Jason sighed. "But only because I don’t want to owe you anything."
Serena smiled. "That works for .... You can co by tomorrow."
Jason nodded his head in understanding and with that, Serena headed back to the hut to prepare lunch. Well, early dinner by the looks of it.
