Serena turned her attention away from Finn at the sound of the voice to see who was calling her. She quickly spotted Jason waving over at her a few ters away.
"Can you co here quickly please?" The bird beastman called out to her.
Serena frowned at his words, wondering what he wanted with her. Perhaps Theo had asked him to call her over for sothing. Probably sothing to do with lunch by her guess.
She turned back to Finn, who was also looking at the bird beastman, and said, "I’ll be back soon. Let see what’s going on."
Finn silently nodded his head in understanding and with that Serena headed off to see what the bird beastman wanted with her.
"What do you want?" Serena asked as she got to Jason’s side.
She glanced over at Theo, who was busy preparing lunch and looking just as confused as she felt. Guess he wasn’t the one that asked the bird beastman to call her. Which left her out of ideas as to what Jason would want with her.
They weren’t partially close in any way.
"I have an important question to ask you." Jason stated. "Do you mind sitting down before I ask?"
Considering his tendency to blurt out whatever ca to mind, Serena was worried about what exactly he wanted to ask. Was it going to be sothing so outlandish that she really needed to be seated for it?
"Just spit it out already." Serena crossed her arms over her chest.
"Fine..." Jason scratched the back of head, going quiet for a second as he thought of the right words to say. Finally he just blurted out, "I want to be your mate."
Theo, hearing the bird beastman’s words, choked and turned to gaze at him in shock. He knew Jason had spoken to him about this, but he didn’t really take the bird beastman seriously.
Though he wasn’t really too worried about it, despite sothing flaring up inside of him at those words. He already knew what Serena was going to say.
And the mont she stopped glitched, Serena glared at the bird beastman and muttered, "No. I’m not interested."
"Really?" Jason winced. "Is there sothing you don’t like about ? I’m really strong, so I can provide for you. And Theo and I get along pretty well, so there won’t be any fighting between us."
Theo sent the bird beastman a glare, wondering why he was dragging him into this. Just because they hunted a few tis didn’t an they were now blood brothers.
"That’s not the issue..." Serena sighed. "I have no intention of making you my mate. I’m not attracted to you in anyway, so it’s best you find yourself soone who actually likes you."
Jason opened and closed his mouth a few tis before he chuckled, "Well, I guess I can’t do anything about that. I’ll see you around then."
And with that, he shifted into his bird form and flew off, not giving Serena a chance to say anything. Not that there was anything she could really say. It was better if he just accepted her flat-out rejection.
Because there was no way she was ever going to take him as a mate.
Honestly, she didn’t even understand what the bird beastman’s interest was in her anyway. They barely knew each other and this guy was asking for them to be in a lifeti relationship.
It seed so stupid to her. Then again, beastn seed to be pretty simple when it ca to relationships. They liked soone and made it clear, not second guessing or questioning why they liked that person.
Of course, there were so males that were so desperate for a partner that they would put up with anything. And Serena could never understand that one. Perhaps it was because of how their society was structured.
Either way, with that rejection, hopefully Jason could move on. Because the last thing she needed was a clingy beastman hounding her. She had even problems on her hands.
"You okay?" Theo suddenly asked, appearing by her side.
"I’m fine." Serena glanced up at the tiger beastman and then asked, "Did you know about this?"
"Kind of.... Jason did tell about asking you to be his mate, but I didn’t really take it seriously." Theo shrugged. "Thought he was just ssing around."
"I don’t think that’s sothing one jokes about." Serena muttered dryly. She then shook her head and murmured, "Anyway, I need to get back to Finn and see how the beehive project was coming along."
Theo nodded his head in understanding and watched as Serena left to go back to the rabbit beastman. He watched them for a few monts before turning his attention back to preparing lunch.
As he placed so at over the fire to roast, he couldn’t help but think about what had happened. He already knew the outco, however, a part of him feared how long that outco would stay that way.
When would Serena decide that she was ready to take more mates? And where would that leave him? Would they keep their charade going or would they have to give it up?
Because if her actual mates ever found out Serena and him weren’t real mates, having never completed the mate bond, they were sure to kick him out. And he’d have to go with it because he didn’t have a say in it.
Theo didn’t want that to happen, not when he was starting to realize how he felt. But he couldn’t tell Serena how he truly felt either. It would only end with him getting kicked out of her life.
And he didn’t want that...
The scent of sothing burning made Theo hiss, snapping him out of his thoughts to concentrate on preparing lunch and not burning it to a crisp. As he worked though, one thought did co to him.
How was he going to get Serena to accept him as a real mate?
