Khaos beckoned her to co to him and she did. She approached him and sat down on his lap. She surprised him with her boldness, but he shouldn't have expected any less from her.

"Have you nad the wolf?" Khaos asked.

The sudden change in the subject surprised Zuri, but she welcod it. "Not yet. I don't know what to na him."

Khaos caressed the wolf's head, as Zuri rested her head against his shoulder, breathing in his scent. She enjoyed being so close to him like this.

"What about 'shadow'?" Zuri suggested.

"Shadow?" Khaos quirked his brows. "It contradicts his fur color."

Just like people, their appearance sotis could fool you. Most of the ti, you didn't know what kind of darkness dominated their thoughts.

"I like 'Shadow'."

Khaos nodded. "'Shadow' it is then." He didn't argue with her. This was her wolf after all, he gave it to her. "I like the na."

Zuri smiled brightly when she heard that. "Your na is Shadow now."

Right now, she looked normal. There was no resemblance of that woman, who could kill two guards brutally in cold blood.

"I didn't know that you can fight," Khaos said, he caressed her back and felt her body tense at the ntion of the incident inside the dungeon. "Who taught you?"

"My brother, Rhett, taught how to fight when I was little, but I went by instinct that night," Zuri answered truthfully. She was waiting for him to call her crazy. That was their favorite word to say whenever she didn't behave.

"So, it's your instinct that guided you?"

"Mostly, yes."

Khaos had expected that. Not many shifters were born with a natural killing instinct, but apparently, Zuri was one of them.

There was silence that followed, but Khaos was still caressing her back, which ant he was not mad at her.

She lifted her head to look at his face. "You don't think I am crazy?"

"No. It's their fault." For the guards to be killed by a woman, it was their sha. The palace shouldn't have hired such guards, who were both weak and had lust more than could control.

"Really?" Zuri's eyes lit up, she was surprised, but also ecstatic because she was not being blad this ti.

It was her fault because she couldn't control her actions and acted crazily when the voices in her head turned too loud. Her father would punish her whenever she was not up to his standard.

It was her fault when she couldn't adjust herself quickly. Her mother had been very disappointed in her for not being able to seduce her own mate, losing her baby and then rejecting Xaden because he chose another woman.

It was always her fault that she couldn't get her body to co alive at Xaden's touches, because she was not attracted to him.

Xaden would say she was weird. That there sothing was wrong with her.

It was always her fault for everything that didn't go as they planned.

Therefore, it was very refreshing when Khaos said it was not her fault for killing those dumb guards who tried to assault her.

Khaos pinched her chin and looked at her. "What is it? People always blad you to the point, you didn't even know what to believe?"

He was spot on with that, but before the conversation went deeper, Caiden suddenly opened the door and rambled about the recent report that he received. He stopped when he saw Zuri was sitting on Khaos' lap.

"Hey, you shouldn't be doing this here, your mate is still alive!" Caiden complained, but he closed the door behind him and went inside anyway, his frown deepened when he saw the little wolf on Zuri's lap. "There is a kid here, you should mind your actions."

"He is going to die tomorrow," Zuri replied nonchalantly. "And Shadow is no longer a kid."

"Shadow?" Caiden made a face. "What kind of na did you pick for my cute little wolf? He doesn't resemble a shadow at all."

Despite how light Caiden made this conversation to be, he didn't forget to glance at Khaos. He mindlinked him to tell him that the king would be here within an hour. Dacre would co here incognito with just his royal beta.

"Go back to your room," Khaos said. He helped her up to stand on her feet, as he stood up as well. "Take a rest, I will take you to the capital city early in the morning." Khaos then added after so contemplation. "You will oppose Xaden and your father tomorrow. You will let them know that you were the one who leaked the information, only then you will be pardoned from the death sentence."

It was just a formality to clear her na in the public eye, but it could be hard to admit that in front of Roland and Xaden directly.

However, Zuri didn't seem to care about that.

"Okay," she replied calmly.

After that, she went out of the room with her little wolf. Caiden smirked when he looked at her, but his face turned grim the mont Zuri was out of his sight.

"What is your endga with her, Khaos?" Caiden asked. He approached the alpha and tried to read his expression, but the joke was on him, because he had never succeeded. "You can't jeopardize our entire plan. There are so many people's lives at stake here. If my mother learns about this, she will not be happy."

Khaos' expression was as impassive as ever.

"We still need her. She has a great talent."

"I can see that, but the way you treat her, is not how you treat a subject. You treat her as... a woman. You shower her with affection." He hesitated for a while with the last sentence.

Khaos raised his brows, demanding him to elaborate.

"You provoked the King by taking her here even though he opposed the idea." Caiden didn't

think that was a wise move.

"Why should I listen to him?" Khaos then added. "His days are numbered."
