What audacity!
Given Zhao Shu's background, envy was to be expected. Rumors were bound to circulate.
They were only aware that Zhao Shu attached great importance to this marriage and had earnestly invited them to participate. Their role was to assist in ensuring the wedding proceeded smoothly.
As for Zhao Di's family?
When they were affluent, they hadn't extended any support to their relatives. Now that their fortunes had waned, why bother? Furthermore, given Zhao Di's apparent attempt to sow discord, they were not inclined to entertain it.
Zhao Di was deserving of being sidelined, left out in the cold.
To their surprise, the coachman had overheard Zhao Di's words and promptly relayed them to Zhao Shu upon their return.
Would Zhao Shu tolerate such behavior?
He never imagined that Zhao Di would dare to venture to Shaoding Village alone. Thankfully, his plan didn't succeed. Otherwise, what impression would the Shao family have of him?
Engaging in a public dispute over this matter wouldn't bode well. If Zhao Di insisted on pretending to be concerned and made him out to be the villain, there was little he could do.
Zhao Shu opted not to engage in open confrontation. Instead, he instructed his trusted aides to hire a few individuals to confront Zhao Di and Zhao Ye in a secluded alley. After a thrashing, they bound the brothers tightly and hauled them off to a dim, solitary room.
In their bruised and terrified state, Zhao Di and Zhao Ye's eyes betrayed their fear upon seeing Zhao Shu.
Refusing to appear weak in front of Zhao Shu, Zhao Di forced a semblance of dignity and spat out bitterly, "Zhao Shu, you're truly ruthless! You orchestrated this against us! Once Father learns of this, he won't spare you!"
Zhao Shu scoffed derisively. "Your father can do as he pleases. If you find your life too comfortable now, feel free to provoke anyti. Face one, I'll handle one. Bring two, I'll deal with both!"
Zhao Ye interjected, "We traveled all this way to attend your wedding celebration. Is this how you repay us?"
Zhao Shu pointed accusatorily at Zhao Di. "Then you should ask your dear elder brother what he's done! While I initially overlooked you and couldn't be bothered, your continued provocations leave no choice. You needn't attend my wedding–just stay put."
Zhao Shu paid no heed to Zhao Ye's protests and swiftly departed, leaving instructions for soone to keep watch over the two brothers.
What use were such nuisances if not to be dealt with?
Zhao Ye suppressed his frustration and turned to Zhao Di for an explanation.
With a face contorted in anger, Zhao Di didn't mince words. Through gritted teeth, he recounted his actions.
Zhao Ye's expression darkened. "Brother, your actions were rash."
Sneering, Zhao Di retorted, "I couldn't stand his smug deanor! I wanted to make things difficult for him!"
Seeing Zhao Di's unyielding stance, Zhao Ye closed his eyes, choosing to remain silent.
Originally, Zhao Ye had planned to deliver a substantial blow on the day of Zhao Shu's wedding, hoping to sabotage the marriage and potentially turn the Shao Family against Zhao Shu. Aware of the Shao Family's prominence and the influence of Lord Shao in Anze Province, he saw an opportunity for his family to reclaim the assets Zhao Shu had seized.
Yet, all his plans were shattered by his brother's impulsive actions.
