Chapter 1685: Chapter 1684: Jungle

Ling Feng acknowledged with a "Oh" and didn’t ask further questions.

After gathering, everyone organized their backpacks and then headed deeper into the dense jungle.

Although he was here to fish in troubled waters, Ling Feng remained vigilant and continuously scanned the surroundings with his Divine Sense to prevent any unexpected situations.

He didn’t care much about the lives of the Aricans, but instinctively felt that since he had accepted their benefits, he should at least do sothing in return.

He couldn’t just ignore people’s lives for gold; he couldn’t do such a thing.

The tropical rainforest was extrely dense, and there were no roads, so everyone’s progress was very slow, covering only about two kiloters in an hour.

As Ling Feng walked, he occasionally looked up at the sky, thinking that if they kept at this pace, they would find the location when it was already dark, and would probably need to find a place to camp.

As he was pondering this, his waist slightly trembled, and he received a ssage on his satellite phone.

Ling Feng’s eyes shifted, and he said to Rick, "You all go ahead; I need to take a leak!"

Rick: "...."

Watching Ling Feng slip into the bushes, Rick helplessly shook his head, thinking they were all n, so what was there to be shy about?

Ling Feng entered the woods and imdiately took out his phone for a look. The ssage was from Lin Xue, and it contained only six words: "City of Gold found."

"Great, we still have a few hours before we reach the edge; hurry up, I’ll try to delay, don’t respond!"

Ling Feng’s fingers moved swiftly, quickly editing a ssage and sending it out.

He then put away his phone and turned to catch up with the group.

As they walked, Ling Feng asked Rick, "Is this operation confidential? Has the Roth Family gotten wind of it?"

"Don’t worry, the operation was decided by the headquarters, and we’re using elite internal mbers from the bureau; the information won’t be leaked!" Rick said.

"Oh, got it!"

Ling Feng nodded but felt sowhat indifferent inside.

Whether the Roth Family knew about today’s events or not was aningless, as Ling Feng didn’t care.

What followed was a long trek through the jungle. No one spoke much; they all kept their heads down and continued towards the depths of the forest.

The sun gradually tilted westward, and amidst the branches and leaves, visibility began to decrease bit by bit.

When visibility beca insufficient and it was hard to see beyond ten ters ahead, the soldiers all put on their helts with night vision.

Rick looked at Ling Feng, "Mr. Ling, I have a night vision device here; why don’t you use one as well?"

"No need; I’m fine!"

Ling Feng smiled, having Divine Sense ant it didn’t matter even if it was dark as pitch!

After declining, he continued to ask, "When we arrive at the place and it’s completely dark, how are we supposed to proceed with the work?"

"Mr. Ling, don’t worry; soone will handle that. You just need to stick with us and ensure the mission proceeds smoothly. Once we enter the ruins, you can head back." Rick said.

Ling Feng chuckled silently; were they afraid he’d compete for gold with them? They didn’t even need him to help find the City of Gold’s location?

What a pity; they were still too late. Lin Xue and her team must be busy dismantling the gold by now.

The sun set, and the jungle beca completely dark.

They walked a bit further, and suddenly a clearing appeared ahead, with scattered lights catching everyone’s eyes.

The soldiers hastened their steps; Ling Feng and Rick also rushed forward.

But upon arrival, everyone was stunned!

They thought they’d reached the camp, where those who arrived earlier would have prepared dinner and hot coffee, but upon seeing the scene, it was a ss; there was blood everywhere!

"What’s going on!"

Rick shouted, drew his pistol, and dashed forward!

Ling Feng swept with his Divine Sense, thought about the situation, and concluded the campsite had been attacked; everyone was dead!

He saw so bodies in the tents and further away in the forest, adding up to seven or eight in total, long dead.

He didn’t need to move forward to notice that the wounds on those bodies seed to be caused by so fierce beast, with three parallel blood holes indicative of very sharp claws.

However, within a kiloter radius around him, there were no beasts in sight; it seed whatever attacked had already left.

Rick commanded the soldiers to search the scene, soon locating all the bodies, and his face imdiately turned very grim.

Seeing this, Ling Feng asked, "So did all those who arrived earlier die?"

"They set out twelve hours before us and it’s shocking such a tragedy occurred!"

Rick nodded and took a deep breath, saying, "Mr. Ling, can you tell what happened?"

"It’s clearly a beast attack!"

Ling Feng shrugged and continued, "You’d better notify the higher-ups imdiately, and have other teams be cautious; they didn’t even get a chance to send a ssage, indicating the beast is extrely formidable!"

"Alright."

Rick nodded and went to send a ssage. Ling Feng crouched beside the bodies, felt them, and realized they’d been dead for over six hours, their bodies stiff.

Opposite the camp not far away, Divine Sense was obstructed, unable to penetrate, and Ling Feng knew that was where the energy shield was located.

Looking around, Rick was on the phone notifying his superiors, while the other soldiers were on high alert, scanning their surroundings for fear of another beast attack, lest they perish here themselves.

Ling Feng chuckled, got up, and walked toward the energy shield.

Up close, he distinctly felt a wave of energy, and as he reached out, sure enough, his hand was blocked by an invisible wall, unable to stretch through!

Ling Feng was well aware of what lay inside, but since Divine Sense couldn’t penetrate and the surroundings were dark, he decided to abandon his attempt and returned.

He thought to himself that this incident, the disruption in the Aricans’ plan, would allow for so more ti to be delayed.

Rick had finished his call, looked sowhat anxious, and glanced at Ling Feng, "Mr. Ling, the superiors instructed us to stay put; other teams are converging here!"

"Alright, then let’s wait."

Ling Feng nodded and then glanced at the bodies, "These should be covered up; we need to figure out a way to transport them out later."

"Alright!"

Rick nodded and had the soldiers find so blankets to cover all the bodies.

Then everyone sat in the camp, and for the mont, no one spoke, making the atmosphere sowhat heavy.

Ling Feng was wondering what kind of beast could be so powerful to annihilate so many people in such a short ti.

As for what Rick and the others were thinking, it was anyone’s guess.

After a long silence, suddenly a scream echoed from afar, finally alarming everyone!

Ling Feng stood up in a flash and said to Rick, "You all stay here on guard; I’ll go check it out!"
