Chapter 167: Chapter 167 Bold Guess
Xun Qianqian snorted disdainfully, "A lady? That’s certainly not in my character!"
Ling Fengshen thought it made sense.
The two chatted on and off, really just to pass the ti since it was still early.
After eating, Ling Feng took out the moisture-proof mat from his backpack, only to find there was just one, and he was montarily speechless.
"So this ans you prepared it just for yourself, right?" he turned and asked.
"Of course. This is the only one we have at ho, and I didn’t have ti to prepare one for you," Xun Qianqian said nonchalantly with a nod.
"Alright then, I’ll figure sothing out myself." Ling Feng nodded.
With his current constitution, it wouldn’t affect him at all to sleep on rocks, let alone spend a long ti in even harsher environnts.
Xun Qianqian found a flat spot to lay out the mat, then looked up, "You can sleep wherever you want, but you must keep a distance of more than two ters from !"
"Don’t worry, five ters won’t be a problem!" Ling Feng nodded.
Even though it was just the two of them, a man and a woman, alone in a mountain cave, he had no other thoughts at that mont. His mind was entirely occupied by the map’s mystery!
They had only just begun to search for the first point, and who knew when there would be ti for the rest!
"I hope this trip won’t be in vain, or else I’ll have little interest in seeking out the other points," he mused silently to himself.
Within a few minutes, a faint snoring sound ca from behind. Ling Feng looked back to find Xun Qianqian already asleep!
"This girl really trusts !"
Ling Feng smiled, lay down on the flat ground by the cave entrance, and could turn his head to see the starry sky outside. It felt pretty good.
Early the next morning, when Xun Qianqian opened her eyes and sat up, Ling Feng was already grilling at by the fire.
"I was wondering why there’s a sll of at. Where did you catch that pheasant?" she asked as she approached.
"Just on the hillside outside," said Ling Feng.
"You caught it barehanded?" Xun Qianqian’s eyes widened.
Ling Feng glanced up at her, "What else? I didn’t bring any tools!"
"That’s quite impressive. Pheasants run fast and can fly, and yet you were able to catch one barehanded. It’s a pity to waste it, though; that one could have sold for two hundred bucks!" said Xun Qianqian.
Having grown accustod to her greed for money, Ling Feng chuckled, "How about this, I’ll go catch three more pheasants later, as your day’s wage, how does that sound?"
"Nah, I don’t do that. I only take cash!" Xun Qianqian pouted.
Ling Feng chuckled and tore half of the cooked pheasant, passing it to her.
After breakfast, they left the cave and continued toward their destination.
Xun Qianqian truly was a child raised in these mountains; she knew all the paths and whether they were passable. With her as the guide, they saved a lot of ti on the road.
As it was nearing noon, Xun Qianqian pointed ahead at a cliff, "That’s the place you’re looking for."
Ling Feng took a glance, "Have you been there before?"
"Yeah, I ca here with my grandpa when I was eight!" Xun Qianqian said proudly.
"So young? What for?" Ling Feng asked.
"Gathering herbs. My grandpa is a well-known old dicine farr around here!"
Ling Feng gave an ’oh’ and looked at the cliff, thinking to himself whether many people had been here before. If there was anything hidden in this place, perhaps it had already been discovered long ago?
But they had already arrived, so they couldn’t just turn around and leave. They had to try their luck whether there were dates to hit or not!
After a short rest, they descended the mountain and followed along the canyon. Half an hour later, they arrived.
"Alright, my task is completed; the rest is up to you," Xun Qianqian said as she sat down on a large rock.
Ling Feng peered at the cliff. The terrain here was sowhat special, a large clearing surrounded by a semicircular cliff, looking quite like a place for offerings or similar ceremonies.
All he had was a map, with no clues about this place, so he turned back to look at Xun Qianqian, "You wait here, I’ll go up and take a look."
"Sure, since I’m charging by the hour, take your ti," she responded.
Ling Feng shook his head, stepped forward, and began to climb, gripping the protruding rocks.
"Be careful! When my grandfather went up, he used ropes!" Xun Qianqian shouted loudly.
"Don’t worry!"
Ling Feng smiled, and in monts, climbed up more than ten ters, causing Xun Qianqian to widen her eyes in surprise, "Is this guy part monkey or what?"
A short while later, Ling Feng had reached the top of the cliff. The area was a narrow strip surrounded by sheer walls.
Turning around to look at his surroundings, apart from weeds and scattered rocks, there was nothing else, leaving Ling Feng feeling sowhat disappointed.
"I knew it wouldn’t be that easy!"
He found a rock to sit on and started to ponder.
It was noon by now. Although the sunlight was direct, there was always a breeze blowing across the mountaintop, so it wasn’t hot at all.
Ling Feng knew that the treasure wouldn’t just be lying on the ground; it had to be hidden sowhere.
But the area, though not large, would take days to dig inch by inch.
Moreover, it was still not certain whether the treasure was buried here.
As he was pondering, Xun Qianqian suddenly shouted from below, "Hey, have you found it? How much longer will it take?"
Ling Feng stood up and looked down, "Why the sudden rush?"
Xun Qianqian shielded her eyes with her hand, "I’m not rushing; I’m hungry!"
"Then go ahead and eat, no need to wait for !"
Ling Feng smiled helplessly, but as he was about to turn away, he unexpectedly discovered sothing!
Standing on the mountaintop, the sunlight stretched his shadow long, casting it onto the clearing where Xun Qianqian stood, like a pointer.
A pointer!
An idea struck Ling Feng.
From below, he hadn’t noticed, but from the height he could see the clearing was a perfect circle.
Though it was overgrown with wild grass, this area was quite distinct from its surroundings, easily distinguishable at a glance.
"No way, it looks like a clock face, but there were no clocks thousands of years ago!" Ling Feng’s eyes bulged in amazent.
He walked a few steps atop the mountaintop and found that although his shadow moved, the movent was most distinct at his feet. His head’s shadow, however, remained static, always staying at one spot.
Ling Feng seed to understand sothing, and his heart began to race!
Suddenly, he had a bold thought. The right ti, the right place, the location pointed by the shadow, that should be where the treasure was hidden!
If he was right, his luck would be too good to believe!
Ling Feng found it hard to credit, as it was completely by chance.
With so hesitation, he decided to go down and check. If he was wrong, then he would think of another way!
So, he climbed down the cliff slowly and walked to the place that had been obscured by his shadow.
Xun Qianqian, who was eating, saw him co down but not approach her. Instead, he squatted far away, so she ran over and asked, "What’s up?"
