Chapter 774
Anton joined his guides, the husband and wife, Delfin and Evan, and their son Devin, who was the sa age as him, in front of the campfire.
“Normally, we wouldn’t face the fire so that our eyes would get used to the darkness as soon as possible, but with five monstrous wolves guarding us, I feel that we’ll be safe tonight,” Delfin said while he ate the food that Anton gave them.
He could see that his three guides admired the huge wolves since the summons truly looked ferocious.
“They do give
a sense of security. I’m thinking that I will be able to sleep comfortably tonight,” Eva admitted.
“I don’t know if I can sleep. I feel full of energy,” Devin said with a mouth full of food.
“Don’t talk while your mouth is full! It’s disgusting,” Devin’s mother scolded him, which made Anton laugh.
Normally, adventurers would not concern themselves too much with table manners, but with your mother part of your adventurer group, Anton guessed that the experience would be different.
“You don’t need to worry. You will find that you will be able to sleep well tonight despite still feeling the effects of my spell.”
The fact was, Anton’s Vigor Aura was truly one of the Paladin’s best skills when used in the real world, especially coupled with either the Prayer or Cleansing Aura. When a person engaged in an extre activity supported by the Vigor and Prayer Aura and consud enough food, they would actually beco healthier rather than experience fatigue, and when it was ti to rest, they would find that their rest would beco truly comfortable, and would give them more energy as if they slept for two days.
After they ate, since Anton’s three guides were not nearly ready enough to sleep, he retrieved his guitar from his inventory and started playing and singing. Anton was guessing that once he arrived in Andora, he would not have much ti doing simple pleasures like singing and playing the guitar. After a while, Devin started singing as well, which brought the activity to a close since, apparently, Delfin and Eva’s son was tone deaf.
Anton and his guides started talking about the lives of adventurers in Rendindura after the Undead Coalition conquered half of the continent. Basically, they just reiterated what Oswald had said. Everybody’s life turned for the worse. Food was scarce since half of the continent didn’t farm much, and the undead only allowed them to continue farming so that their slaves that remained alive would have sothing to eat.
Farm animals also beca rare simply because of the wanton desire of the undead to kill living things. When a roaming undead chanced upon an animal, whether they were farm animal or a wild one, the undead would usually kill it. That was also one of the reasons that Anton realized that the Undead Coalition should not exist in the world. Their need to kill was so illogical that he could only conclude that it was so form of madness.
After their talks, Anton entered his beautiful, tiny house that was made for him by the forest elves, while his three guides entered their sleeping bags. Before entering his house, Anton saw that Delfin and Eva were looking at the Dire Wolves that were guarding them in appreciation, because they ant that they could sleep in without the need to assign guards.
Normally, travelers could not truly rest without assigning guards who would take shifts during the night. However, upon the advent of the coalition, there were instances in which a low-level undead would suddenly appear, and without guards, the travelers would not be able to continue traveling and would end up on the stomach of the undead.
During the next few days, their journey beca routine. They would travel the whole morning with their mounts running nonstop, supported by Anton’s auras. During lunch, they would stop to eat the food and mana water that Anton would provide. Even the donkeys’ als were provided by him. Their lunch als would usually not last more than thirty minutes, and after that, they would continue traveling nonstop. They did not even need to wash up or do the normal cleaning routine since Anton would usually clean everything using his Cleaning spell, which Eva appreciated a lot.
The funny part was that Eva kept ntioning that their things beca cleaner ever since they started the journey.
There were instances in the journey that Anton’s guides would chance upon so roaming wild animals like bison. At first, they would ignore the said animals simply because they were too large to be carried off, but when Anton told them that he could carry the at using his spatial item, Delfin and Devin started hunting so of them to sell them once they reached the end of their journey.
Eva only stopped them when Anton told her that they had already collected the at of ten bison. He only told Eva since the hunting was impeding their fast travel a little, and he thought that ten bison were enough for the three to earn a lot of coins.
Also, during their journey, aside from the dire wolf that Anton was riding, he also summoned three more as their guards. His guides finally saw the strength of the dire wolves when they chanced upon several ghouls that were roaming about. The three dire wolves decimated the ten ghouls without any problem.
Normally, a group of travelers would not be able to survive that kind of patrolling undead. First, the ghouls were simply one of the more powerful undead, and a group of travelers equals their number; if there were no powerful wizards or skilled warriors with the travelers, it ant that they would end up in the stomach of the ghouls. Second, even if they managed to kill the ghouls, a patrolling group of ghouls was usually led by a more powerful undead, like a lich or a vampire.
After the dire wolves killed the ghouls, their vampire leader appeared. Delfin, his wife, Eva, and their son Devin looked extrely alard when they saw the vampire. Normally, a vampire ant that they would not survive, but when they saw the three Dire Wolves decimate the vampire, they were flabbergasted. Anton did not even have to take action.
At first, Anton thought that the vampire was a low-level one, but he was surprised to see that the vampire was carrying a spatial ring with a size of three cubic ters. The ring was full of gold coins and gems.
Delfin and Eva looked enviously at the spatial ring, but they knew that they would not be able to demand a share, simply because the ones who killed the ghouls and the vampire were Anton’s wolves.
When they camped the night of the battle with the ghouls and the vampire, Delfin said that there was a chance that they would not be able to return to the desert kingdom safely and would probably stay in the town near Andora.
Anton stared at his guides for a few minutes, then made a decision.
“I will give your family three choices. The first one is for
to pay you the remaining amount of the price of your guiding
to Andora, the second is this spatial ring, and the last one is two dire wolves that would co from an enchanted item that I’ll make. The dire wolves from the enchanted item would only have half the strength of my actual dire wolves, but they would still have the strength to kill off the ghouls that attacked us earlier,” Anton told his three guides.
