The mont the plane carrying Kang Jinwook took off into the sky, Sunwoo walked into the café, the cool air conditioning hitting his face.
There was no one in the café except for the staff. This ant that Kim Tae-yeol, who had been nagging about when Sunwoo would arrive, was still not there.
With a frown, Sunwoo sat by the window, where he could see outside. Perhaps because he'd co in from the heat, he felt a slight chill on his arms.
Rubbing his goosebumps, Sunwoo looked up at the ceiling, where the air conditioning was blowing a strong breeze.
‘It’s going to get even colder as ti passes...’
He briefly considered moving to another seat but decided to stay where he was. He had already sat down, and it was too much trouble to move.
Besides, it wasn’t like he was going to talk to Kim Tae-yeol for long anyway.
Ignoring the air conditioning that ruffled his hair, Sunwoo turned his gaze back outside. The weather was nice, and the sea sparkled erald green under the sun.
He could probably catch a beautiful sunset if he stayed here long enough. But there was soone flying to Jeju right now to have dinner with him, so he didn’t have the luxury to relax. As he thought about this, his phone vibrated.
It was Kim Tae-yeol.
“Why are you calling instead of coming in?”
Sunwoo frowned slightly, then relaxed his face as he pressed the answer button. He glanced outside the café.
As expected, Kim Tae-yeol was standing near the entrance, looking around.
Where are you?
“Co in.”
Huh?
Kim Tae-yeol, with a confused look on his face, peeked inside and smiled when he spotted Sunwoo. Sunwoo hung up the phone and watched as Kim Tae-yeol entered.
“You were here first? What’s up with you?”
“……”
It seed that the “submissive” type didn’t stick to schedules. Sunwoo gathered that from what Kim Tae-yeol said.
“The place’s closer to .”
“Really? Is your accommodation near here?”
Kim Tae-yeol seed quite curious about where Sunwoo was staying and looked around the café. He still seed to be under the misconception that Sunwoo was staying at a guesthouse. Sunwoo didn’t feel like correcting him.
“Yeah, it’s nearby. But what are you going to drink?”
Sunwoo answered vaguely and changed the topic. Kim Tae-yeol, not that curious, imdiately turned his attention to the nu.
“I’ll go buy it. Do you want a mocha frappuccino, or maybe a mint chocolate frappuccino?”
All of those were sweet drinks with plenty of whipped cream on top. Sunwoo liked those kinds of drinks? Sunwoo briefly thought about this new piece of information and then ordered a peach iced tea.
“Peach? That’s surprising. Alright, I’ll get it!”
Kim Tae-yeol winked and gave a thumbs up before turning toward the counter.
What’s with that cheesy expression?
Left behind, Sunwoo stared at Kim Tae-yeol with a confused face and then called him back.
“Huh? Why?”
“Suddenly, I’m craving cake. If you see a chocolate cake, get
one.”
A rich, sweet cake appeared in Sunwoo’s mind as he placed the order. He hadn’t even thought about it before, but once the idea ca to him, he suddenly wanted it. He lightly licked his lips.
“Chocolate cake? Alright.”
Kim Tae-yeol, with an indifferent expression, headed toward the counter. Since Sunwoo had always liked sweet desserts, it made sense to Kim Tae-yeol.
Of course, Sunwoo, unaware of this, watched Kim Tae-yeol leave and checked his phone.
There was still no ssage from Kang Jinwook. He must still be flying.
〈You still like peach, huh.〉
Kang Jinwook had said that before. When Kim Tae-yeol had co around at a similar ti and Sunwoo ordered the peach iced tea, Kim Tae-yeol had reacted with surprise. Was Kang Jinwook wrong, or had Kim Tae-yeol misunderstood?
“Well, whatever.”
It didn’t matter to Sunwoo who was wrong in this case.
Kim Tae-yeol returned with a tray and placed the whipped cream-covered frappuccino in front of himself and the peach iced tea in front of Sunwoo. Seeing that, it seed like the frappuccino was just sothing Kim Tae-yeol liked himself.
Thirsty, Sunwoo took a big sip of his iced tea. The refreshing drink slid down his throat, and he felt a sense of relief.
“Why did you want to et?”
Putting down the glass, which was already a third empty, Sunwoo imdiately asked the question. Kim Tae-yeol, who had been slurping his drink with a straw, rolled his eyes.
“I just wanted to see you since you’re here.”
Right, as if that’s all. Sunwoo could tell from Kim Tae-yeol’s face that there was more to it, but since Sunwoo didn’t say anything, Kim Tae-yeol shifted his gaze.
He probably thought it was too obvious.
“No. Well, I’ve been thinking about sothing,” Kim Tae-yeol started after only a few seconds.
“How about you tell Kang Jinwook you’re an Oga?”
“What are you talking about?”
“I an, you said you quit the company and ended things with Kang Jinwook. I overheard your coworkers talking. They said you quit because of your health?” Kim Tae-yeol lowered his voice, as if it was sothing he shouldn’t say.
“Yeah, do you know the diagnosis?”
When Sunwoo asked, Kim Tae-yeol hesitated. His tone seed slightly cold, which Sunwoo noticed. However, after a brief mont, Kim Tae-yeol nodded, brushing it off.
“I just heard you were sick. But I found out from Kim, your assistant, and a friend of his. It wasn’t really gossip.”
A secretary’s friend and coworker, and now Kim Tae-yeol—at this point, it seed like most people who mattered had already heard about it. Sunwoo chose to remain silent, though.
“Anyway, if that’s the case, it’s not like you were fired, and your resignation hasn’t been processed yet. Maybe you can expect so compensation?”
“Compensation?”
“Yeah. Didn’t they say they’d compensate you when they made you Kang Jinwook’s fiancée?”
What? That sounded like the engagent with Kang Jinwook was a contractual agreent.
Sunwoo, trying to remain composed, listened to Kim Tae-yeol’s words.
“Oh, I guess you don’t rember since you were out of it, huh? Anyway, I heard the talk when I was with you, and I know they said they’d take care of you if you stuck with him.”
Sunwoo’s eyes widened slightly at the ntion of Kang Jinwook’s brother’s assistant calling about his engagent. Did that an there was so kind of deal involving him and Kang Jinwook’s family?
“I heard Kang Jinwook’s brother’s secretary wanted to talk to you, said it’d be sothing beneficial for you.”
He ntioned the land owner again. Sunwoo had heard this the day before. What he was really curious about was the deal between Kang Jinwook’s brother and him.
“What kind of deal?”
“I don’t know for sure. I didn’t hear that part. But since they ntioned compensation, I’m sure sothing’s going on.”
Kim Tae-yeol half-jokingly shrugged and smiled awkwardly. Sunwoo processed the conversation in his mind.
From what he knew, Kang Jinwook’s and Sunwoo’s engagent had likely been arranged by Kang Jinwook’s father and his brother.
But Sunwoo didn’t know what kind of transaction had occurred between them.
‘Did they sign a contract or sothing?’
It didn’t seem like the compensation would be financial, but the ntion of land made Sunwoo wonder if that was involved.
‘Does Kang Jinwook know?’
Maybe Kang Jinwook had known sothing, which is why he kept preventing Sunwoo from quitting, not just out of concern for his health or his mother’s mory.
If Kang Jinwook’s father or brother had an agenda in mind and arranged for Sunwoo to stay close, then it made sense why he’d want to keep Sunwoo from leaving.
The more he thought about it, the more uncomfortable he felt. Sunwoo tried to shake off the uneasy feeling and refocus on the situation.
Kim Tae-yeol knows Sunwoo is a recessive Oga.
Kim Tae-yeol knows there’s a transaction between Sunwoo and Kang Jinwook’s brother.
Kim Tae-yeol and Sunwoo were high school classmates and lived together for years.
Kim Tae-yeol knows Sunwoo better than anyone else, from high school to adulthood.
After sorting out his thoughts, Sunwoo decided that the most important thing to figure out right now was…
Kim Tae-yeol t Sunwoo’s gaze, and his expression shifted to one of curiosity before he smiled again. Sunwoo, despite everything, couldn’t help but compare him to Kang Jinwook—Kang Jinwook was far better looking.
Putting all that aside, Sunwoo finally spoke.
“I’ve got a question too.”
“Yeah, ask away. But I don’t know much about Kang Jinwook’s brother. That won’t help.”
Kim Tae-yeol replied quickly, almost as if to avoid the subject. But Sunwoo wasn’t asking about the deal with Kang Jinwook’s brother.
“Did it really look like I liked Kang Jinwook?”
