Chapter 136: Chapter 136 Kiss

Sarah’s POV

I had barely closed my bedroom door when it burst open again.

The loud bang made

jump.

Marcus stord into the room like a hurricane, his expression dark and furious. His tie was gone now, and the top buttons of his shirt were open like he had ripped them loose in frustration.

My heart was still racing from the confrontation with his mother, and seeing him like this didn’t help.

He slamd the door shut behind him.

"What the hell was that?" he demanded.

I blinked at him.

"What?"

"With my mother," he snapped, running a hand through his hair. "What did you say to her?"

I stared at him.

"Excuse ?"

"Did you screw up the contract?" he continued sharply. "Because it sounded like you told her a lot more than you were supposed to."

Sothing inside

snapped.

"Oh, I’m sorry," I said sarcastically. "Maybe you should have warned

your mother would show up today."

"That’s not the point."

"No," I shot back, "the point is you and your lovely family seem to enjoy dropping surprises on ."

Marcus frowned.

"What are you talking about?"

I crossed my arms.

"Your sister Elena."

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"What about her?"

"You sent her to take

for my fake wedding dress shopping," I said, my voice rising. "And right in the middle of that, she casually tells

the wedding is happening in two weeks."

Marcus swore under his breath.

"You didn’t think to tell

that?" I demanded.

He rubbed his face with both hands, clearly irritated.

"My grandmother didn’t want to wait," he muttered.

I stared at him.

"What?"

"She wants the wedding as soon as possible," he said. "And when my grandmother decides sothing, it happens."

"So you just... forgot to ntion that to the woman who’s supposed to marry you?"

"I was going to tell you."

"When?" I snapped. "The day before the ceremony?"

He exhaled sharply.

"This isn’t the problem right now."

"Oh, it absolutely is," I replied.

He shook his head.

"The problem is what you told my mother."

"The truth?" I said.

"And what exactly is that?"

"That we’re getting married... I don’t tell her yet cause I know how my mother can be sotis."

His jaw tightened.

"You didn’t have to say it like that."

"Oh, I’m sorry," I said dryly. "Should I have told her I’m your temporary nanny bride instead?"

His eyes darkened.

"You really don’t know when to stop talking."

I let out a bitter laugh.

"You know what? Forget it."

Marcus watched

carefully as I ran a hand through my hair in frustration.

"Your mother doesn’t want

anywhere near this family," I continued. "She literally tried to pay

to leave."

His eyebrows lifted slightly.

"She what?"

"Offered

money to walk away," I said. "Told

to na my price."

Marcus’s expression hardened, but I was too angry to care.

"But honestly?" I continued. "Maybe she’s right, I should have taken the money right? Don’t you think?"

His gaze snapped back to .

"What’s that supposed to an?"

"It ans forget the wedding... we getting married was never supposed to happen if you don’t lie to your ex girlfriend or wife... or whatever that is that was between the two of you."

The words ca out before I could stop them.

Marcus’s eyes went cold as his jaw clenched.

"You signed that contract." He reminded

"Your mother just called

pathetic," I cut him off. "She looked at

like I was sothing she scraped off her shoe."

Marcus said nothing.

"And you know what?" I continued, my voice shaking slightly now. "Maybe I’m not good enough for your elite little world... and that is why what happened should have never happened in the first place... all because of you we had to lie to the whole world."

He watched

quietly as though he could see through , as his eyes darkened even more.

"I have self-respect, and I won’t let either you or your mother treat

like trash," I said firmly.

The room went quiet for a mont.

Then Marcus slowly stepped closer.

"You should watch how you talk to ," he said quietly.

Sothing about his tone sent a small shiver down my spine.

"Oh?" I said, lifting my chin slightly.

"Yes."

"Or what?"

His eyes held mine.

"Or I might put that mouth of yours to better use."

The words hung in the air, and for a mont neither of us moved.

Then I crossed my arms and looked straight at him.

"You don’t scare , Marcus... I thought we’d established that by now," I said, even though my heart was beating in fear.

His eyebrows lifted slightly.

"Excuse ?"

"You heard ," I replied.

I stepped closer to him now, refusing to back down.

"You keep threatening ," I said. "So do it."

His jaw tightened.

"You’re playing a dangerous ga."

"Am I?"

"Yes."

I tilted my head slightly.

"Then what are you going to do about it the great Marcus Specter?"

Before I could register what was happening, Marcus had covered the remaining distance between us and grabbed my arm and pulled

toward him. His other hand ca up to my face.

And then his lips crashed against mine.

The sudden kiss caught

completely off guard.

My eyes widened in shock.

For a second, I couldn’t even move.

His kiss was firm and intense, like he was trying to silence every word I had just thrown at him.

My brain struggled to catch up with what was happening.

One mont, we were arguing.

The next mont, his mouth was on mine.

The anger between us hadn’t disappeared, with my heart pounding so loudly I was sure he could hear it, and for a brief mont, I completely forgot how to breathe.
