“Valentin!”

The voice that answered his call struck Valentin’s heart with a heavy, emotional weight.

Valentin clung to the iron bars that separated her from Reynard. Recognizing his husband’s voice, Reynard rushed to the bars, desperate to get closer.

It had been so long since they had last seen each other. His Alpha’s face was now in full view.

“Hnng, Reynard...!” Valentin’s cry was choked with emotion. His eyes filled with the sight of Reynard’s gaunt face, his beloved who had suffered through long days, his skin pale and his eyes sunken. Tears stread down Valentin’s face as he reached through the narrow bars, trying desperately to touch Reynard.

Seeing Valentin struggle to reach him, Reynard leaned closer to the bars, allowing their faces to et through the cold iron. It was a bittersweet reunion, their longing and desperation palpable between them, separated by the oppressive prison bars.

“How did you even get here?! Why would you co to such a dangerous place?!” Reynard’s voice was hoarse and rough, filled with worry.

“I didn’t even know you were in this state...! What happened to you? How did this happen?” Valentin sobbed uncontrollably, tears spilling down his face.

Reynard’s eyes softened as he looked at his Oga. Despite the humiliation and suffering he had endured, Reynard had remained strong and steadfast—until now. Seeing Valentin’s tears made his emotions waver for the first ti. His hands, bound in chains, could not fully reach through the bars, but he stretched his fingers as far as he could, trying to wipe away Valentin’s tears. The gesture was instinctive, as if he couldn’t bear to see his beloved cry.

Valentin stood on his toes, pressing his fingers through the bars, brushing against Reynard’s face. The touch was familiar and comforting, just as it had always been between them.

“Reynard! I’ll save you! No matter what, I’ll find a way to get you out of here!”

“I’m fine, Valentin. I’m really fine. Are you hurt? Is everything alright?” Reynard’s voice trembled with concern.

“I’m not hurt anywhere,” Valentin replied, shaking his head, tears streaming down his face.

Reynard repeated himself, his voice filled with exhaustion, “Why did you co here... why...?”

In his mind, he knew he should have told Valentin to stay away, to live safely and peacefully far from this place. But his Alpha instincts, driven by the overwhelming joy of seeing his bonded partner again, kept him from saying the words. His voice trembled with emotion.

Valentin, noticing the unspoken words in Reynard’s silence, whispered rapidly, his lips trembling.

“I’m sorry I left you. I should have never left, no matter what.”

“No, I wanted you to leave. I wanted you to be safe and find the freedom and happiness you deserved...” Reynard began, but Valentin fiercely shook his head.

“I’ve realized that my happiness can only be complete by your side. And I know you feel the sa.”

It was the most important truth Valentin had co to understand after all this ti.

“We need to be together.”

“...”

“No matter how much suffering there is, even if there’s no happiness at all... we must stay together. We can endure everything and rely on each other. I’ll never leave you again. Please, live with —by my side, always.”

Valentin’s voice was full of conviction, every word dripping with sincerity.

Even with his tear-streaked face, there was a radiant glow to him—a light born of the courage that ca from discovering the deepest truth.

Reynard, staring at Valentin’s unwavering determination, couldn’t bring himself to say no. How could he ever refuse soone so deeply precious to him? Valentin was the one he had always loved with every fiber of his being, the one he had entrusted with his life. Reynard nodded slowly.

“I’ll live with you, Valentin. I promise.”

Separated by the cold iron bars of the prison carriage, the couple shared an intimate, raw vow. Around them, the enraged crowd, the protective soldiers of House Denox, the Princess, and the shouting police created a scene of chaos. Despite the turmoil, Valentin and Reynard had been granted a brief mont to connect, to speak their truth.

“And there’s sothing I need to tell you,” Valentin whispered, leaning closer to Reynard.

Reynard bent down to listen more closely.

“I’m pregnant,” Valentin confessed softly.

“What...?” Reynard’s eyes widened.

“It’s your child, Reynard. This ti, we must protect our baby—no matter what.”

Reynard’s eyes, which had been filled with tenderness monts ago, suddenly turned sharp and fierce. It was the instinctual, protective gaze of an Alpha who had just learned his bonded partner was pregnant.

“You’ve suffered alone all this ti, Valentin. I can’t tell you how happy I am,” Reynard said, his voice thick with emotion.

Valentin, his face still tear-streaked, managed a small, weak smile in response.

Reynard pressed a kiss to Valentin’s hand, then called out in a clear, commanding voice.

“Felix!”

“Yes, my Lord!” Felix, who had been carefully watching the chaotic crowd while standing protectively behind Valentin, quickly responded.

“Get Valentin out of here safely, imdiately.”

“Understood.”

“And proceed with Plan B. Given the situation, we’ll switch to the final version and push through. Do it now.”

“As you command, my Lord!” Felix responded swiftly, then gently guided Valentin away, urging him to leave. But Valentin resisted, his voice shaking as he called out again.

“No...! Reynard... What about you? What are you going to do?”

“Don’t worry about , Valentin. I’ll be back soon.”

Valentin couldn’t understand how. How could Reynard co back so quickly when he was trapped in this humiliating prison carriage, shackled like a criminal? How could he escape when the law, the Emperor, and the corrupt Clifton forces were all working against him?

“I’ll find a way!” Valentin cried out, determined to do whatever it took—plead with the Emperor, beg the Grand Duke, anything—to free Reynard. But Reynard shook his head.

“No. You don’t need to do anything. Trust . I’ll co back to you.”

“Reynard...”

“Stay safe at ho, with our baby. That’s my only request. This ti, please don’t get hurt.”

Valentin nodded, tears streaming down his face once more. He had no choice but to trust Reynard, to believe in him. For the first ti, Valentin wanted nothing more than to protect Reynard’s heart, to make sure his beloved wouldn’t suffer any more pain.

“I promise. I’ll wait for you in a safe place.”

Valentin’s promise ca easily, because he knew he would keep it.

“Yes. I’ll co back to you soon. This will all be over soon.”

Valentin didn’t fully understand, but Reynard’s face was filled with certainty.

“It’s all going according to plan. Don’t worry. It’s almost over.”

“Alright, Reynard. Just... don’t get hurt!”

Reynard held onto Valentin’s tearful face, comforting him. Then, through the iron bars, they shared a kiss—one of love and reassurance.

“I’ll co back safe, I promise. Wait for .”

“I’ll wait...”

Tears blurred Valentin’s vision again.

“Now we must go!” Felix urged. They had already pushed their limits, and he quickly led Valentin away, protecting him as they moved through the crowd. Reynard watched his husband’s figure until he was completely out of sight, his eyes never leaving him.

Then, he quietly retreated into the darkness of the prison carriage.

Like a beast waiting silently in the shadows, biding its ti.
