Chapter 15: DEEP IN THOUGHT
I was back in my office when I realized that darkness had already crept in. I stood by the window staring at the night skies, admiring the Alaska night views.
"Do you regret it?" Freki’s voice rose over our minds.
"Not really, but I am concerned that what I did will co back to haunt
sooner rather than later," I responded.
"All because of that damn pact, "Freki’s annoyed voice rose.
"I might have been a little hard-headed today and revealed my power. "I huffed.
Mhh" Freki yawned and went back to sleep.
Walking back to my desk, I kept working for hours until I heard the knocking at the door and Zeeb walked in.
"I am going ho," He announced, looking irritated.
"You sound annoyed at . "I chuckled and leaned back on the chair, stretching my neck from sitting still for too long
"I have had enough of your madness today, Lucian," He muttered.
Standing up, I shut the laptop down and walked to the door. "I will drop you ho, Zeeb. Taking it as a way of apology for making it hard on you today," I inford him.
"That sounds more like a bribe," Zeeb snickered, as we left the office. After I dropped Zeeb to his apartnt, I took a drive around the Kesley dock pier to get a breather. Stepping out of the car, I walked to the pier to enjoy the view by the sea.
By the ti I got to the Freki mansion, the lights had already been lit by the security guard. My phone buzzed as I alighted from the car and I stared at it with surprise at the Caller ID. The trouble I created earlier repercussions had co calling. Connecting the call, I spoke up, "Good evening, Uncle Carter. "
"Lucian, it’s been a while since we spoke, "He responded.
"Running a company is difficult. It takes most of my ti, Uncle. Sorry I have not had the ti to visit you, "I explained as I walked to the living room and sat down.
"Mhhh, The KODA council has instructed
to summon you for a eting in the coming week. "
"? Why" I feigned innocence, knowing well that he was using the Koda council to threaten . Since he was the Head of the Koda council.
"I will inform you of the reason when you attend the eting. As part of the rules of the KODA council, we don’t have to explain ourselves to the person whom we are summoning. "His rude and arrogant voice was clear.
"Anything else?" I retorted.
"A word of advice Lucian. The na Freki ans nothing to the KODA council, "He stated and disconnected the call.
I stared at my phone screen and chuckled, knowing well that actions had consequences. Headed to the master bedroom, I took a shower and thereafter went to the kitchen to have the al the maid had prepared. Hours later, I tossed and turned on the bed, deep in thought as to how I would deal with the KODA council.
Lack of sleep had
arriving at the office in the wee hours of the morning after I took a morning run in the woods. By the ti Isla arrived, I had done most of the day’s work, and she imdiately prepared breakfast with a cup of hot coffee.
It was close to nine a.m. when she knocked on the office door and walked in to announce "Ceo Lucian, Tala Elijah is here to see you"
"What does she want?" I muttered, lost in the docunts I was reviewing.
"We need to talk" Tala’s voice rose from the door.
Raising my head, I t with the face of an irritated Tala Elijah. I nodded at Isla who left my office looking uncomfortable knowing well Tala must have given her a hard ti.
"What is it, Tala? "
"The KODA council has sent . They want
to remind you of the pact agreent with the Freki’s since yesterday you Wolf tried to control Carter, and he rushed to the pack to report it to Alpha Lobo"
"Tried to control? Is that what that bastard said?" I chuckled sarcastically.
"You are to attend the eting at the KODA council in two days at nine am. " Tala insisted,
"And If I refuse?" My eyes burnt with mischief.
Tala took a step back and whispered, " Lucian, I am only a ssenger. Allow
to give you a word of advice. Please refrain from challenging Alpha Lobo. All these matters are related to him. "
"I don’t give a fuck about your Alpha. Anyone will not control " I stood up and growled.
Tala looked scared, and she took a step back. The door opened, and then Zeeb spoke up from the doorway, looking displeased. " Why the hell are you shouting at my little sister? ’’
"Stay out of this Zeeb, "Tala scolded him and then turned back to look at . "Lucian, I an well. And I know that there have been whispers about the Freki wolves. But still, a pact is a pact. Your father signed it and you must abide by it.
"You are talking as if I have a pack of wolves under , "I asserted.
"Anisha Nora is the wolf under the Freki," Tala stated
Her statent really surprised . I was not aware that we had a wolf under the Freki. How many things had Pa done for Anisha?
"She belongs in our pack," my wolf Freki ascertained.
"Why the fuck am I learning about this now?" I responded through our mind link.
"It’s the only condition Alpha Freki had as he signed the pact," Freki inford .
"So what?" Zeeb demanded from Tala. Finally, Zeeb stepped up to defend Anisha.
"Are you serious right now? You know my position in the KODA council. They don’t trust
because you work for Lucian. And they are using
to pressure him," Tala snickered.
"Anisha Nora is no one’s business but mine," Zeeb calmly said, but we felt the threat in his voice.
Tala gasped and closed her ears. "No way" She realized that Anisha was Zeeb’s mate.
"Surprise! "I laughed out loud, clapping my hands in happiness as Zeeb groaned while Tala remained speechless.
