Capítulo 946: Chapter 378: Ancient Gods! Ancient Gods!
Horatio Magee was a short middle-aged man.
He had an ordinary appearance and a plump build, but the black coat he wore did a good job hiding his figure, and his sowhat bloated face always carried a hint of restraint.
He was indeed a bit restrained.
As the leader of an intelligence investigation team in the Military Intelligence Bureau, he usually ran around various areas, earning a decent salary, but had few opportunities to interact with the bureau’s managent.
Generally speaking, the managent of the Military Intelligence Bureau comprised officers re-assigned from other posts, and for soone like him, who was not even an official governnt servant, the chance for further promotion was slim.
Next to him ca the sound of clear, rhythmic footsteps.
Magee imdiately straightened his chest and raised his head, stuffing his hands into his coat pockets to make himself look less nervous.
That female officer, taller than him with smooth brown long hair, appeared before him once again.
“Team Leader Magee, please co this way, the Deputy Director has been waiting for you for quite a while.”
“Thank you.”
Magee lowered his head, picked up his briefcase, and recalled the repeated checks he underwent before entering the base, feeling inexplicably more nervous inside.
The Deputy Director of the Military Intelligence Bureau was usually a major general from the Military Departnt, each with imnse power, and just a word from them could render him beyond redemption.
Magee thought of his nopausal wife’s ‘sincere instruction’ on his way here, determined to seize this opportunity.
The elevator descended, corridors spread east and west, and through a few passing windows, he could see indoor training fields where many young n and won were sweating it out in high-intensity tactical drills.
Magee rely shook his head slightly at the sight.
This kind of routine fitness training was prevalent in military bases and ships of the Empire, not a ans to train intelligence officers.
The female officer ahead stopped before a three-ter-high dark-colored explosion-proof door and pressed the doorbell.
“Sir, Team Leader Horatio Magee has arrived.”
A response ca from the doorbell: “Please co in.”
A voice so young.
Magee couldn’t help but marvel at it in his heart, thinking this must be a young hereditary noble passing through the Military Intelligence Bureau to gain so credentials.
But what did this young Deputy Director want with him?
He was just a frontline agent, after all.
The door opened, and the female officer stepped forward two steps, then politely gestured for him to enter with a smile.
Magee took a deep breath, stepped inside, and looked up at the figure busy writing behind a spacious desk, vaguely feeling a sense of familiarity in the head shape, but dared not look long, quickly moving inward.
Click.
The female officer left on her own, closing the door behind her.
“Sir,” Magee said from afar, “You asked for ?”
“Hmm,” the young man looked up at Magee and smiled, “Sit over there on the sofa, have whatever you like to drink, I’ll co over once I finish writing this report.”
But Magee seed to be stunned, standing there blankly, unable to move.
White, white, White Ghost!
“**!”
“Hmm?” Yang Ming frowned, looking over, did this guy have a problem with him?
“Oh! Oh! I wasn’t cursing you!” Magee’s face flushed red, his breathing a bit urgent, suppressing the excitent in his heart, “I’m your fan! Sir! White Ghost Sir! Haha, it’s actually you who summoned ! What do you want
to do? Oh, even if you want
to die, it’s fine! I’m your loyal fan!”
Magee rolled up his sleeve, revealing a tattoo of the back of the White Ghost turning its head.
Yang Ming smiled without speaking, continuing to write, not bothering with him further.
A few minutes later.
Team Leader Magee had cald down, standing awkwardly by the sofa.
Yang Ming paced over with his hands behind his back: “Sit.”
“Alright, alright, you sit, it’s fine if I stand!”
“Sit,” Yang Ming clicked his tongue, “I called you here because I value your abilities and want you to investigate sothing for , not so you could co fanboying.”
Team Leader Magee smiled awkwardly and sat down opposite Yang Ming.
“These reports were written by you, right?”
Yang Ming pushed a few projected docunts over.
Magee reviewed them carefully for a mont and quickly nodded: “Yes, I wrote these, is there a problem?”
“You did very well,” Yang Ming said, “Most of the ti, the Empire’s Military Intelligence Bureau serves the Imperial Military Departnt, and there are not many intelligence personnel like you. Simply speaking, I called you for two things.”
“Please go on.”
“The first thing is to prove your ability. I will have you investigate several Great Nobles. I don’t care by what ans, but I need you to obtain their cri evidence without alerting them.”
Yang Ming stared at Magee:
“I can give you all the resources within my jurisdiction; do you dare to take on this task?”
“I dare!”
Magee said firmly, “Like you, I resent the corrupt class of this country. My father was persecuted by the Great Nobles, leading to the destruction of my family!”
“No need to tell
about your background, I’m simply valuing your ability.”
Yang Ming nodded slightly:
“If you succeed in this, I’ll give you a second task: within the frawork of the Military Intelligence Bureau, evaluate and reorganize the Intelligence Officers, establishing an intelligence system to supervise the nobles, and in the future, extend this system’s reach to the enemies of the Empire.
“I can tell you frankly that I’ll stay in the Military Intelligence Bureau for only about one or two years, but I hope that after I leave, this intelligence system can continue to function.
“Do you understand what I an?”
“Yes, I understand!” Magee said in a low voice, “I won’t let you down! I swear on my reputation!”
