Chapter 717: 300 Doubts, Escape, Permissions
“This is the Emperor Star broadcast channel. We are interrupting with urgent news.
“A military weapons transport vehicle has exploded violently during transit, and the explosion has affected the Imperial Palace module. Fortunately, our great Emperor has not suffered any harm.
“According to preliminary estimates, the explosion has resulted in 362 deaths. Human remains at the epicenter of the explosion have been vaporized, with six to seven individuals reported missing. Relevant departnts are actively investigating the reasons for the military transport’s presence near the Imperial Palace.
“From this mont, the surface of Emperor Star will enter a third-level security lockdown. Defense forces will be stationed at various intersections to maintain stability. We urge all citizens of the Empire not to panic.”
Hanton!
When Catherine rushed to the explosion site, a large area had already been cordoned off by the security police.
All she could see was that a section of the unsupported floating expressway had almost completely severed, the road pipes gnawed away like a cane chewed on by soone, leaving only a narrow area tenuously connected.
Buildings and vehicles from the missing area had disappeared as if into thin air, and the piled-up floating vehicles also displayed various degrees of deformation.
The piercing siren wailed, echoing everywhere as police officers and semi-automatic machines labored to disentangle charred corpses stuck on the tal.
“Captain!”
A few supermodified people arrived upon hearing the news, two female team mbers supporting a stumbling Catherine.
“Do you, do you have any news about him?” Catherine asked with a quivering voice.
The supermodified people shook their heads in unison.
One of them said, “The explosion has affected an area with a diater of ten kiloters, injuring thousands. The glass in many buildings at the sa height has shattered. We suspect it’s the work of a military-grade Energy-Gathering Bomb. The characteristic of this bomb is that it releases energy violently within a narrow area…”
“If it was a car bomb that was installed, even an Ancient God Life Form…”
Catherine took a half-step back and grabbed the arm of one of the female team mbers.
“Control ,” her eyes filled with bloodshot, her body trembling uncontrollably, and her breathing becoming sowhat disorderly, “control !”
The two female team mbers exchanged a glance, and the one on the right took out a magnetic handcuff from her waist pack, securing Catherine’s arm to her own.
…
Imperial Palace module, the deliberation hall most frequently used by the Emperor.
A group of elders bowed before the Old Emperor who had not spoken for over ten minutes.
The three highest-ranking military officers stationed on Emperor Star from the Military Departnt, six elder mbers of the Elder Court, the Divine Sect Archbishop responsible for civilization’s developnt, and the main heads of various departnts stood aligned in eight neat rows below, each person maintaining silence, and within that silence seed to lurk a volcano ready to erupt.
Ping, dang dang dang.
The Old Emperor smashed a craft piece from his side fiercely onto the ground.
The maids and musicians at every corner of the hall hastily knelt down, seemingly terrified of being caught in the Emperor’s gaze.
“Ha, Emperor Star, this is Emperor Star! This is my Sherman Empire’s Emperor Star!” the Old Emperor cursed out loud,
“All of you, every day you chant about the glory of Emperor Star, about the great Emperor, but what’s the result? Placing an Energy-Gathering Bomb above my head, trying to blow up a hero of the Empire!
“Who gave you the guts?
“Who has been indulging you to co to this stage today!”
The Great Elder’s legs trembled as he fell to his knees: “Your Majesty! I, I am guilty!”
The Old Emperor pointed at the Great Elder a few tis and coldly said, “Speak, what cri have you committed!”
The Great Elder cried out with a trembling voice: “The Elder Court represents the Imperial Nobles, and the Imperial Nobles are followers of the Sherman family. We should have protected Your Majesty’s safety at all costs, but instead, such a terrible bombing incident occurred! This is an unforgivable oversight and mistake.”
The five elders behind the Great Elder all knelt down shakily.
“Beautiful,” the Old Emperor laughed bitterly in his anger, “What, are you blatantly telling
it was you who bombed those people, and if there’s no evidence, you don’t want to be taken for fools by the Elder Court?”
Two bigwigs from the Military Departnt glanced at each other, each seeing the confusion in the other’s eyes.
Before coming here, they had actually carefully reviewed the situation, and so far, the relationship between the Emperor and the Elder Court was far from being tense enough that they must sever the sword in the Emperor’s hand.
This explosion could very likely have been arranged by the Emperor himself. As long as the White Ghost was inford of the news in advance, and the White Ghost wasn’t on that floating vehicle, hiding away from the storm, the Emperor would have an excuse to strike hard at the Elder Court.
The political ecosystem of the Empire actually consisted of two parts.
Outside and inside Emperor Star.
The political ecosystem outside Emperor Star is extrely complicated: Honorary Nobles, hereditary nobles, local defense forces, local administrative units, powers interweaving, with dostic and foreign capital exerting forces, leading to all kinds of extre incidents easily.
However, the political ecosystem within Emperor Star is transparent and very much a simple triangular structure.
Emperor’s Power, military power, and political power mutually restrain each other, forming a stable political frawork for the Empire.
Even after several coups by princes and princesses for power, there have been substantial restrictions on the Emperor’s flesh and blood, and anyone who tries to ddle in politics will lose everything.
Within the Sherman family, only the Emperor has actual power; so princesses, princes, at most, are nothing more than spokespersons for departnts.
— Like Princess Luna.
Simply put, the Elder Court had plenty of thods to deal with the White Ghost. Through political maneuvers, they could directly get rid of the White Ghost without the need for a car bomb near the Imperial Palace.
That would be an act of folly and made no sense.
