Chapter 66: Work for .

Mila’s eyes darted between the n and the road ahead. Her heartbeat thundered in her ears.

She had been so close to freedom. And now, she was trapped again. But this ti, it wasn’t Dominic’s people. It was far worse.

A chill ran down her spine.

She regretted her decision.

’I shouldn’t have left; I should have waited and let Dominic deal with his enemies first.’

But her desperation for freedom had pushed her straight into danger.

’What am I going to do now?’

"Boos, we got her." The words snapped her out of her thoughts.

Mila turned her head toward the man holding the phone. She imdiately understood he was speaking with Marco.

A wave of dread washed over her.

’What are they going to do with ?’ Just as she was wondering, the man turned to her with a sharp glare.

Mila flinched instinctively, her heart jumping to her mouth.

"The boss wants to talk to you." He shoved the phone toward her.

"Mm..." Mila wriggled.

"Ugh, stay still," he snapped and ripped the tape off her mouth.

Mila winced. Pain stung her skin.

The phone was pressed against her ear.

"Miss Mila." A deep voice ca through the line, sending a wave of tremors down her spine.

"Unfortunately, we had to bring you in like this," Marco continued. "But don’t worry... no one will hurt you."

Mila’s stomach knotted. She wouldn’t believe him. Why would he kidnap her if he had no intention of hurting her?

"But you have to work for ."

"Work for you?" Mila repeated with disbelief. "I’m a doctor, not a criminal like you. I’ll never work for you."

The temperature in the car seed to drop.

"Don’t forget where you are." His voice turned cold. "One word from ... and you disappear."

"I’m not afraid of you," Mila snapped. "I’d rather die than work for you."

"Shut up, you bitch," the man beside her growled.

In a flash, a sharp slap landed across her face.

"Ah..." Her head snapped to the side, her body losing balance as she slamd against the front seat. Pain exploded across her cheek. Tears stung her eyes instantly.

"How dare you talk to the boss disrespectfully?"

Mila bit her lip, trembling.

At Dominic’s place, she had been locked up, controlled. But no one had hit her like this.

These n were different and rciless.

She thought Dominic was heartless, cruel. But for the first ti, he didn’t seem as terrifying as she once thought.

"Enough." Marco’s voice cut through the tension. "Give her the phone."

"Boss, she needs to be taught—"

"I said, give her the phone."

The finality in his tone made the man freeze. Without another word, he shoved the phone back to her.

"Miss Mila, I know you aren’t afraid of death," Marco said, his tone dangerously calm. "I have no plan to kill you. But..."

There was a pause for a mont. The tension inside the car rose.

"If you don’t cooperate, your loved ones will suffer."

Mila’s heart skipped. Her skin tightened with goosebumps. Before she could understand what he was going to do, his next words hit her like a dagger.

"I know your friend helped you escape."

Her eyes widened.

"Going against Dominic?" he added. "She is quite brave."

Cold fear seeped into her bones.

"Don’t touch her," she said urgently, her tone laced with warning.

"I won’t," Marco replied smoothly. "As long as you listen to ."

Mila swallowed hard.

"What do you want?" she grunted out, clenching her jaw.

"I heard Dominic had a eting with Mr. Lee," Marco said. "I want everything. His deals, his operations... his secrets."

Mila let out a bitter laugh. "And how do you expect

to do that?" she shot back. "I ran away from him. If he catches , he’ll lock

up. Or worse, he will kill . How would I know what he is doing?"

The words ca out in a hurry. "And even if I survive, I won’t have access to anything. I won’t even get near him again."

"You are wrong," Marco said calmly. "You are the woman Dominic is interested in."

Mila froze.

"He won’t kill you. Yes, he’ll be angry. He might punish you. But how you handle him, that’s up to you. I know you are quite skillful. You already proved that by attending a high-level eting with him."

Mila gritted her teeth. "Dominic isn’t a fool," she said. "This is too risky. I can’t do it."

"You are not in the position of saying no to , Miss Mila Vega." He took her full na coldly. "Your friend’s life depends on your performance. If you fail to do your job, she will lose her life."

Mila fell silent, dread clenching her gut.

"She is innocent," Marco continued. "She has nothing to do with this world. Can you really let her suffer?"

Mila’s eyes welled up with tears. "Please, don’t hurt her."

"Then do as I say."

Mila lowered her head. Guilt consud her.

Lara was in danger because of her. If she hadn’t reached out and dragged her into this, none of this would have happened.

Her chest tightened painfully. But it was too late to regret it.

She had no choice. "Fine. I’ll do it. But how to contact you? I don’t have a phone."

"You don’t need one. Soone will contact you soon."

Mila felt another wave of shudders crossing throughout her body. ’He has a spy on the island? So close to Dominic?’

Fear crept deeper.

"You have one month," Marco added. "If you fail, your friend dies." He then instructed his man to release her before ending the call.

Mila remained numb in her place, her mind reeling with his warning. She finally understood why Dominic had said his enemies were everywhere.

Marco was more dangerous than she had ever thought. He could do anything to achieve his goal.

"You are lucky that the boss is letting you go," the man beside her sneered. "You should be thankful to him. He is giving you a chance. Don’t try to double-cross him. Or your friend will be dead."

Mila glared at him. "Stop the car and let go of ."

The man’s smugness vanished, and his expression turned cold. For a mont, it looked like he might hit her again. But instead, he reached out to untie her.

Just then, the car screeched and ca to an abrupt halt. Everything lurched forward violently.

Mila’s body slamd into the front seat again.

"What the hell?" the man snapped.

He looked ahead and froze.

Two cars blocked the road.

His face drained of color.

"Dominic..." he whispered. Fear flooded his eyes.
