Chapter 59: What Do You Need?
Cheng Bo Jing looked around the conference room. There were about fifteen people, plus aids, sitting around, listening to General Li speak.
Apparently, they were facing a double threat. A sub has been detected in international waters. A Country M sub that may or may not have a device that would set off a space war and rain nuclear bombs down on several countries, Country K being one of them.
On top of that, Country S has leaked out that Country M was planning a mass EMP attack that would essentially send the world back to the dark ages. But no one knew when or how it was going to happen.
With a soft sigh, Cheng Bo Jing leaned back in his chair and listened to the intelligence report. There was nothing new in it. In fact, he was pretty sure that even Bai Long Qiang knew more about what was going on than the General did.
But that was the military for you. The right hand never told the left hand what it was doing, and then both hands wondered why things were fucked up.
Bai Long Qiang looked over at Cheng Bo Jing and rolled his eyes. It was nothing more than a waste of ti. Ti Cheng Bo Jing could have spent watching Wang Tian Mu.
Not like she knew it.
He was sure that if he hadn’t seen more than a few of his team mbers doing the sa thing, it would be creepy. But they had all just agreed that she was the unofficial mascot for their teams, and as such, it was required for them to look after her and keep her safe.
They weren’t stalkers; they were just following her around and guarding her without her knowledge or permission.
The phone in his pocket buzzed, letting him know that he had a text ssage. He narrowed his eyes as he looked around the room. No one else was reaching for their cell phones. Clearly the ssage wasn’t military related. Otherwise, if the team were being called out, Bai Long Qiang would have been contacted, too.
I need you
The ssage made Cheng Bo Jing’s blood run cold as he stared at it for a second.
I am on my way. Where do you need ?
Standing up, not caring that he would be reprimanded for leaving the eting without permission, he simply turned around and left.
They could try to write him up, but part of his job was to get secrets on more than just the enemies. And not a single man in that room could afford to piss him off.
Bai Long Qiang gave him a confused look but didn’t call him out on it. And that was when it hit him. She texted him. Not Bai Long Qiang. Him.
Slamming the door to the conference room shut behind him, he sprinted for the nearest exit. She should be working at the hospital right now. Fuck. What could have happened that she needed him?
He looked down at his phone as he took the stairs three at a ti to get to the bottom floor faster.
Hospital. Text
when you are in the parking lot, and I will co to you. Do not co in until I tell you to.
Fuck. Sothing must have happened. So why hadn’t she contacted Bai Long Qiang? He smirked, even through his panic. She knew she could always count on him.
He pressed another button and put the phone up to his ear.
"Where are you?"
"Hospital," ca the imdiate reply.
"What is going on?"
"Nothing," Zeng Xian Liang said the word slowly, almost as if wondering what had set Cheng Bo Jing off.
"Are you sure? Tian Mu just asked
to co to the hospital. She said that she needed ." There was a firm division in the team that only so people knew about. Cheng Bo Jing, Fan Teng Fei, Zeng Xian Liang, and Ye Yao Zu were united as a single unit with a single purpose.
The other twelve knew nothing about it.
And that was just fine with them.
"Three ambulances ca in, but no one ca out to greet them," answered Zeng Xian Liang as he looked around the building at the ergency room doors. He couldn’t see inside past the doors, and he couldn’t take the chance of going in and getting caught.
"Is that normal?" Cheng Bo Jing tried to think of the last ti he had seen soone coming out to et the buses, but it must have been more than a month.
"No."
"Okay," grunted Cheng Bo Jing as he jumped into his SUV and took off. "I’ll be there in about five minutes. If sothing happens between now and then, you know what to do."
"You know murder is frowned upon in our society, right?" chuckled Zeng Xian Liang.
"Si Dong?" said Cheng Bo Jing, calling the other man by his nickna. "It’s only murder if they find the body."
"Right you are, Lao Tie."
It was the fastest he had ever gotten to the hospital, but given how much his heart was pounding, Cheng Bo Jing was surprised that it hadn’t escaped his chest.
This was why he never should have left her side. It kept him sane, being able to see her all the ti.
Here. In our spot, he texted, parking under the sa tree that he had every ti he was ’asked’ to pick her up. As far as he was concerned, this was their spot. If any fuckers wanted to park here, they needed to ask for his permission.
Getting out of the car, he waited for her to show up.
Spotting her, he froze. What was in her arms? Why was she looking around like soone was going to jump out of the bushes and attack her?
He quickly sent off a text ssage to Si Dong. Is there anyone around?
No
Replying to Wang Tian Mu’s questions like she was a scared kitten, Cheng Bo Jing patiently waited for her to tell him how he could help.
"Do you know how to take your own blood?" she asked softly, her face paler than he had ever seen before. And where did those dark circles co from? Was she not sleeping well? Was she eating properly?
"I do," he assured her and quickly took off his jacket. Taking the syringe, he withdrew his blood but didn’t hand it back to her. He wanted to know why she was so far away, but she didn’t reply. Instead, she just seed to stare off into space.
"Talk to , Kitten. What do you need?"
