Chapter 227: Vivi and Her Portmanteau
Edith and her subordinates could only hold the formation for around a minute. It was a complex formation that consud a lot of energy and magic that even the most skilled mages could not hold for too long.
Still, Edith was glad that their opponents were reduced to half. Deranged humans were easy to kill, but black mages were a different story. Apart from being stronger and being able to wield dark magic, they were sane and knew how to think, which made them harder to get rid of.
Edith coughed up more blood.
She was down on one knee now and could hardly stand. She spent almost all of her magic in the Arrow-Eye formation and she was barely left with any magic. And it didn’t help that her energy was getting sucked by the freaking poison spell.
’Is this going to be the end of ?’
She smiled bitterly. At least she would die a noble death for protecting the kingdom. Not too bad.
Everyone else was busy fighting. So of her subordinates noticed her state but they couldn’t get close to her.
So when a bloodthirsty black mage ca running to her, Edith was ready to wield her sword for the last ti.
But when she attempted to stand, a striking pain rocked her body, making her go down on both knees and vomit blood.
It was then that soone went in front of her before the black mage could lay a finger on her.
Edith watched the blood splatter near her, adding more blood to the ground.
The man’s back was facing her but she knew well who he was.
"Why the hell don’t you listen to , you freaking woman?" The next mont, Julian was next to her, holding her in his arms. She had gone numb due to the poison sapping her vitality.
"Oh damn!" Julian muttered a curse when he saw the dark skin on Edith’s neck.
Behind him, Ethan and Vivian ca approaching. Ethan held a revolver and shot enemies with bullets fueled by his magic. His other hand was holding Vivian who carried a small portmanteau. On their tail was a group of uniford skilled mages, the bodyguards of Ethan’s family.
"What happened?" Vivian asked Julian when she saw the unconscious Edith in his arms.
"The poison is rapidly spreading on her body. Her pulse is weak."
Vivian sat on her heels next to Julian and Edith. She put down the portmanteau she carried on the ground.
Ethan and his bodyguards covered the three, holding a barrier with all of their magic combined while shooting enemies with their bullets powered by magic. However, with the speed of the black mages, they could hardly hit the right spot.
Vivian opened her portmanteau. She was born an ordinary human but with a great priestess raising her, she knew so stuff about poisons and dicines.
She also received a small portmanteau filled with sorts of dicine from her Aunt Priscilla a day before, and when she heard the town was under attack, it was only then that she realized why her aunt sent her so many dicines. The priestess knew what was about to co.
Lady Priscilla, the priestess who once helped Lauren and Alec, had a vague vision of the tragedy that would befall Evardin. But as soone who was leading a life of solitude away from political strife, she knew that the root of the chaos were only those who held the power to put an end to the bloodshed.
"This woman. How dare she decide to throw away her life just like that," Julian muttered frustratedly while Vivian checked the wound in Edith’s arm.
The army Julian led remained in the east district. He knew leaving them was not sothing a good commander should do, but thinking about Edith’s condition, he could not stop worrying about her. So he went to find Edith.
On his way to the south district, he ca across Ethan and Vivian who were helping so civilians. Ethan was a skilled mage, and with a bunch of skilled bodyguards, they were able to help so people. Vivian helped, too, by tending to the wounded.
"I am not a healer mage, but I learned so things from my aunt. I can tell how weak her vitality is right now through her pulse," said Vivian.
Julian swallowed hard. He glanced at Edith in his arms and gently touched her cheek with his knuckles.
"But you have sothing that can help her, right?" He looked at Vivian with hopeful eyes. "You said your aunt is a great priestess and she sent you sorts of dicines yesterday. It ans she knew what Evardin would face. She must have sent you sothing that could help those who were poisoned by a black mage’s poison spell."
"I did tend to a soldier who had the sa case. His wound was also hit by a black mage’s magic with a poison spell. I gave him so dicine, which made him feel a little better, giving him enough ti to go to the town’s healer house and find a healer mage..."
"But," Vivian sighed and continued, "Edith’s case is different. She consud all her strength and magic, leaving her vitality sapped. This must have sped up the spread of poison."
The usual jolly Julian was nowhere to be found. He had a forlorn expression on his face and grim eyes.
"But we can still try. Give
the dicine you gave to the soldier. I’m sure it will give her enough ti. I will bring her to Dr. Bentley."
Vivian nodded and went through the dicines in her portmanteau quickly. She wasn’t very well acquainted with all sorts of dicines, her aunt knew that, so the dicines were labeled and arranged according to their labels.
"This one." Vivian gave a vial of liquid dicine to Julian. She then asked, "Can she take it if she is unconscious?"
"I will make her swallow it with the use of magic," Julian said and took off the lid of the small vial.
Without a second delay, he poured the liquid into her mouth and used magic to force the dicine to go down her throat.
"Is one vial enough?" he asked, wondering if it was better to take more.
Vivian was not very sure. "I think one should be enough. My aunt told
once that any person’s body should not be overwheld with too much dicine."
