Chapter 224: Everston Family’s Demise
As if she got the reaction she wanted from Alec, the woman smiled.
"Thirteen years ago, your father searched for the bearer of the Capewell’s curse. We both know he was a well-known researcher at that ti and was secretly working for the Supre House."
Alec did not say a word. His expression was blank. He wanted to know what more there was to the woman’s story.
"The majority believed that the Capewell curse had been cut centuries ago, but the Supre House’s chief knew that was not the case. William Everston has always been curious about such an ancient curse, so when Lord Eleazar reached out to him, he was more than willing to take the case."
"However, when he finally traced my lineage, it was three days after my death."
Alec could still clearly rember what happened thirteen years ago.
He was only eleven years old then.
It was late in the evening and his mother had just tucked Amber into bed in her room after reading her a story.
Amber was then a girl of seven. Alec’s mother, Francesca, a pureblooded vampire, had always been fond of children. However, after having Alec, she could no longer bear another child.
So when she saw the young Amber a week before that night, almost killed by a teenage delinquent in the town street, she could not fight the urge to take her ho.
Alec was standing by his bedroom’s balcony. Sleeping was not necessary for vampires, so he often did it much later at night. He was drinking blood from a glass when he saw his father’s carriage arrive at their residence.
He did not pay attention at first, but one glance at his father walking toward the mansion’s door was enough to hold his attention.
He noticed his father was carrying a woman in his arms. She was wearing a white dress, but her face was on his father’s chest so Alec could not see it.
Alec never liked his father, William Everston. The news of his illicit affairs with different won had been circulating through the town since he was younger, and Alec eventually got used to it. He knew that William had cheated many tis on his mother, and he despised him for that.
But seeing William bring a woman into their ho that night was sothing Alec had never seen before. He often noticed different female scents on William when he went ho, but he had never brought a mistress to their estate.
It made Alec think that his father was disrespecting his mother. He was infuriated and wanted to go see his father, but his mother arrived at his room before he could do it.
She told him not to leave his room and sleep, but Alec was stubborn and told her about what he saw. Francesca said she would talk to William and told Alec to stay out of adult matters.
"Everything is going to be alright, son." These were the exact words Francesca said. She offered him a smile, but deep down, Alec could sense that sothing was wrong.
"But, mother-"
Before Alec could finish, Francesca had cast a sleeping spell on him. He was still young and his magic was inferior, which rendered him powerless against his mother’s spell.
Rembering what he saw the next morning after that night, Alec’s jaw clenched as he stared at the rebels’ mastermind in front of him. He knew what the woman was trying to say.
"Yes, it was , dear Alec. I was the woman your father brought to your ho that night," she revealed. "Unfortunately, the curse I carried and your father’s way of reviving the dead had a conflict. Sothing went wrong along the way, I don’t know what it is, but I lost control. My true nature prevailed.
"Your mother happened to be in my way. But your father was so dedicated to finishing his research that he couldn’t kill
even if his wife was on the brink of death under my hands."
Alec was gripping the hilt of his sword so tight that if it were an ordinary sword, it would have been crushed under his palm.
"So it was you all along..." he uttered quietly.
That morning, the first thing he did was go to his parents’ bedroom. But what he saw was the bloodied, lifeless body of his mother on the bed while his father was sitting by the window with a glass of blood, staring at nowhere with a blank expression.
Alec kept asking William what happened but the latter never spoke a word about it. Alec was enraged. He assud that his parents had a fight last night because of his father’s mistress and William killed his mother.
It was the most reasonable explanation for him at the ti. When did his father ever show affection to his mother, anyway?
Alec’s overflowing anger made his power surge. Because of that incident, he unlocked his full potential at a very young age.
He killed his father and left Amber outside the town orphanage. Then he went back to their mansion and burned it down with the body of his father.
"You can’t bla . I died. Your father brought
back with his poor skills. It was only right that you blad him," the woman said, bringing Alec back to the present.
Lauren had told Alec about her mother, and he rembered that she wasn’t this kind of person. So he thought that even if it was true that this woman was Lady Mildred, she couldn’t be the sa person that she was in the past.
His father’s innate ability was a form of dark magic and although he could resurrect the dead, perhaps there was so kind of side effect. Perhaps the resurrected person’s dark side would prevail, resulting in an evil version of Lady Mildred. After all, she was still a carrier of Capewell’s curse. A descendant of the first generation of black mages.
Alec spoke in a very cold tone, "Despite believing all these years that he was the killer of my mother, I don’t regret killing him. And I promise you, I will give you the sa death."
