"We were all trying to prevent him from finding out about your Spirit Talent," Gu Bing admitted openly.
Su Chen looked confused.
"Elder Xia is the Sixth Judge of the Judicial Court," Gu Bing explained.
Su Chen’s eyes widened in understanding. ’So he’s a Judge. No wonder Zhang Hongbo was so afraid.’
"But his thods..." Gu Bing hesitated before choosing her words carefully. "He’s not well-liked. He craves talented individuals, but it’s for a goal that’s considered almost impossible to achieve."
"Rumor has it that three promising individuals with Red Gold Level Talent have been broken under his watch. So don’t for a second think that catching his eye is a good thing."
"That’s..." Su Chen found it all a bit strange after hearing her explanation. ’This Judge is not at all what I imagined.’
’But this reveals sothing else,’ Su Chen mused. ’To be so disliked and still hold his position... he must be exceptional in other ways.’
"I understand. Thank you," Su Chen nodded.
"Don’t thank us," Gu Bing said with a self-deprecating smile. "It was also partly because of the Third Judge. We didn’t want to get caught in the middle. Besides, Elder Xia didn’t press the issue. If he had, we would’ve had to tell him."
"As for Zhang Hongbo, he was probably afraid that Judge Xia would learn of your talent, find out he was suppressing you, and take his anger out on him."
"Ugh..." Su Chen was speechless. ’Everyone’s got their own agenda. No wonder the atmosphere was so strange.’
Su Chen’s stunned expression was rather endearing, so Gu Bing elaborated, "Zhang Hongbo originally thought you would compete with his son for the position of the next Southwind City Lord. That’s why he tried to suppress you."
"But now that he knows you have Red Gold Talent, it’s basically impossible for you to return to Southwind City for a position. There’s no longer a direct conflict, so he’s trying to smooth things over."
’So that was the reason.’ Su Chen finally understood.

"He’s a protégé of the Second Judge," Gu Bing added as a final note.

know," Su Chen said sincerely.
Fatty Sun, having received a ssage, had co downstairs and was waiting nearby. Gu Bing said her goodbyes.
Sun Tai started the hovercar. "She’s no ordinary woman, is she? How co I’ve never seen her at the Inspectorate?"
"A special envoy from Ying Feng," Su Chen replied casually, sitting in the back this ti and staring at his panel.
"Ying Feng? A special envoy?" Fatty Sun gulped. Whatever connection he made, it was enough for him to say with genuine admiration, "My friend, you are sothing else."

On the top floor, Xia Hanshi stood with his hands clasped behind his back, looking down from the viewport.
"It was our duty." Zhang Hongbo’s tense expression eased slightly. Praise from Elder Xia was a rare thing. He perked up. "We almost caught Zhou Xian this ti. It might not be long before we can root out the Black Tuo Followers completely."
Xia Hanshi scoffed. "Root them out? The roots in Southwind City run deeper than I imagined."
"What do you an by that?" A chill went down Zhang Hongbo’s spine. He was the biggest "tree" in Southwind. ’Could this sohow be connected to ?’
"I have a theory. I hope it’s not true. Otherwise... it’s hard to say if Southwind City will even exist anymore." Xia Hanshi’s words made both of their hearts pound.
Yang Yan forced a smile. "Surely it’s not that serious? Southwind isn’t particularly special. There’s nothing here worth coveting. When a conventional infiltration fails, Black Tuo usually withdraws rather than committing more resources."
The Deceitful God Sect has nurous branches, and each Deceitful God has its own thods. Black Tuo dislikes direct conflict and is very particular about its return on investnt.

"I told you not to push yourself so hard..." Fatty Sun couldn’t help but chide. "You need to know when to rest."
Su Chen just humd in agreent, his gaze unfocused as he stared at his panel. Not long after he’d gotten into the hovercar, [Secret Scholar] had completed its devouring.

Still, the new Professional Ability looked quite powerful—it would be a great asset in combat.

to pick up and bring to you? My god..." Sun Tai was flabbergasted. He looked Su Chen up and down suspiciously. "You and the City Lord... you don’t have so kind of secret relationship, do you?"
The value of these resources in Southwind City was imasurable.
Su Chen just smiled without a word. Fatty Sun had wanted to build so rapport with Zhang Hengyu, but it was a sha to learn he had already left.
"Anyway, I’ll bring you the ditation Technique and the Illusion Essence tomorrow," Sun Tai said before getting in his car.
Su Chen waved as Sun Tai drove off, then returned to his room to finally get a proper feel for his transford Spiritual Power.

’Well... I can only say it’s stronger than the *old* Crimson Thunder Urgency. I can’t be sure how it compares to the newly enhanced version.’
’As for Zhang Hongbo, I should be in a grace period with him now, so there shouldn’t be any problems,’ Su Chen mused, rubbing his chin. ’I can focus on dealing with Zhou Xian and the Deceitful God Sect.’
With his current strength and equipnt, it was unlikely Zhou Xian could kill him, even in a surprise attack.
’I’m on a whole new level now,’ Su Chen thought, clenching his fist.
