The group then once more began to split up to look for the various things they needed. Almost imdiately, now that they were no longer threatened and could search in peace, Adam found one of the parts requested to fix the generator in the vault. However it had so rust on it so it would likely need so effort to clean up. It would be better to find so that were not rusted. Even if he found more it wouldn't be the worst idea to keep spares in the Vault. He still had never seen the generator himself since the room was so incredibly radioactive even Rad-X wouldn't be sufficient, so instead he would have to let Remmington do the work until he can eventually get in the room and help with whatever repairs he can do.
Still, the scrapyard was large and they had plenty of ti in the day to work so Adam decided to turn on his pip-boy radio and listen to Ray's radio station for a little bit to enjoy so music while he scavenged through literal junk.
A few hours went by this way without anything especially interesting happening until Ray himself ca on the radio again to do a short news update and talk show segnt, as he usually liked to. However today was different, according to Ray, today he had big news.
"That's right folks! I have huge news to tell you all about today! As we all know Chicago's biggest on-going issue is the Four Horseman. War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death, though the last one is hotly debated. What is not hotly debated, my dear listeners, is that Chicago is now free from the ravages of Famine's Horde!" Ray then clapped and played a soundboard sound of an audience clapping. Even though it was clearly a pre-recorded sound, it got the job done.
"Many of our city's most illustrious banded together in a grand defense against the endless tide of feral ghouls that was set to wash over Chicago! From the Guards of Midway to the Hunters of the Pier it seed we had groups pulling out of the woodworks for this event! As it turns out it was one of Chicago's own who made this event happen! No, it was not the bigwigs of so of the most powerful and major players we all know and love. Nay, instead it was the rising star of Midway Adam Baxter and Adam's Army! From what I've heard he managed to even convince the Demon Klan to take part in the defense of our lovely city! So wherever you are out there Adam, know that if I ever see you, I owe you a cold one! And, to all the others who helped defend the city, from the Gunners and Talon company, to the rcs who put their lives on the line, we, the people, thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Cheers everyone! Now, onto other news. It seems like a local brahmin herder was…"
Ray kept talking, he was a long winded sort of guy. He was a radio DJ after all it ca with the territory. However Adam had stopped listening by now. He was nad on the radio! Him! Not anyone else but him! It was such a shock to him he was unsure how to even react.
On one hand this was one of the happiest monts of his life, he had never been on TV or the radio before. He was not simply involved in an event on the radio but instead was nad specifically! It was incredibly flattering and filled him with an indescribable amount of joy and giddiness. It was also great for his business. If he was well known he would be more likely to get requests and more likely to get discounts or simply get access to more towns based on his reputation alone. As soone who put their life in danger often he certainly benefited from having a bit of fa precede him. It helped a ton in negotiations.
However, while those were the good things about it he couldn't shake the sinking feeling in his gut. Fa was great and all but it ca with its own share of issues, naly the fact that there would always be people who were violently jealous of him. Perhaps even madn who wanted Chicago to die might resent him personally for stopping Famine. He was happy to get a personal shoutout from Silver Ray Johnson, after all it was having a celebrity call out his na, how could that not be cool? But there was a lot more pressure now. His na was out there, not just in places he frequented like Midway where he often conducted business, but all over Chicago now, who knows what trouble that might bring.
Unfortunately though it was all out of his hands. However Ray had heard the news, it was clear that Adam's na was emphasized in the report. This was both a blessing and a curse, he just hoped it would only bring benefits and he was simply over thinking it.
"So… got a chance in the spotlight, eh kid?" Salvatore said with a grin as he walked over. Adam let off a sigh.
"I guess…" He hesitated. "I'm conflicted about it." Salvatore shrugged.
"You fight big battles, it gets your na around, I wouldn't over think it, shit just happens." He said as he pulled out a half smoked cigarette, lit it, and worked to finish it. "You want to do business in the world, it's good to have so reputation. That Ray did you a huge favor, now people will know who you are before you walk into town."
"I just hope it's a good thing, not everyone will be happy with
I'm sure." Adam said skeptically.
"Yeah well, fuck'em, don't overthink it. Just enjoy the fa while it lasts." He said as he patted Adam's shoulder. "But… Adam's Army?" He grinned at the na coined by Ray for Adam's group of friends and fellows. Adam rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, I don't know what that's about." Adam said with a shake of his head. "We are not an army, nor anything like it, technically we do scavenging services, we aren't rcs for hire." Salvatore chuckled.
"I don't know, Adam's Army sorta rolls of the tongue don't you think?" He said with a teasing grin. "Or would you rather call it… Salvatore's Salvage or sothing?" Adam rolled his eyes.
"I hired you not the other way around, if there's a company here it'd be mine." He frowned though mostly to play along with the joke.
"Well just think about it, kid. I would be fine lending you my na to get a catchy na for the group." He chuckled and then turned back to return to scavenging. "I'm gonna get back to work, found a few things already and threw them in the APC but plenty more to look through here."
"Yeah, good luck Salvatore."
"You too, kid. You too."
