Chapter 312: Leave With No Regrets
—-
Samantha had spent the first day gathering whatever necessity was needed from the elven clan, as she would be leaving in two days ti. The elven clan had shown her nothing but kindness all through her stay, and that was sothing she would never forget. So of them were thoughtful enough to offer so of their local herbs for her journey, and having Viney who could explain the use of these herbs was another advantage to her.
There was a slight rainfall that afternoon, and Samantha, who rembered witnessing the season of fall only once, sat on the veranda in Elara’s abode. She extended her hand forward, feeling the water drops land coolly on her palm. Her lips curved into a dainty smile, and her erald eyes glead at the soothing change the weather brought.
When the raindrops reduced to a drizzling motion, Samantha grabbed a coat and stepped out. Brian had inford her about the chief’s will to finally et her in person, and if Brian had been around, she knew without a doubt that he would have accompanied her here– she was glad he didn’t, because she finally found the opportunity to be by herself without his assistance.
As much as she appreciated his help, there had to be a limit to whatever bond they were forming. Letting out a sigh and tucking her gloved hands into the pocket of her coat, she continued to ander her way through the path that was now enshrouded in a silver mist.
She has passed the Elwynn Book Emporium on countless bases, and that made it easy for her to rember the exact route. The drizzling rain painted a magical canvas on the Elwynn Book Emporium, and it looked like any other ordinary, elegant bookstore one would easily walk into. Climbing up the steps and facing the delicate wooden door, all she did was knock twice, and the door swung open with a loud creak.
Stepping inside, she took off her coat and carefully hung it in the hanger adjacent the entrance. The exterior of the book shop appeared relatively small on the outside, but Samantha was trapped in a daze when the interior part of it felt like she had stepped into a completely different dinsion. The Elwynn Book Emporium seed to stretch endlessly, shelves disappearing into the dimly-lit distance, whilst her round eyes grew wider in sheer wonder.
The air slled of old parchnt and ink, and there were a few dwarf elves who stacked up books and climbed ladders to fix them at their designated shelves. Compared to the structure of the book store outside, Samantha hadn’t anticipated for it to be this grand on the outside. She felt cheated in so way, cause now she was standing like a statue, unsure of what route to take. At least the Emporium felt warm in contrast to the cold outside.
As she wandered deeper, the shelves towered over her like an ancient tree, all adorned with mystical symbols that pulsed with a soft glow. Each step she took seed to echo through the vast expanse, and her mouth ford an ’O’ shape as she marveled at the floating ladders that navigated the towering shelves autonomously.
One of the dwarf elves stood on the floating ladder. She was busy fixing the books on the upper shelves when she accidentally missed one, and the book slipped. Samantha’s heightened senses had sensed the book falling, and she reflexively caught it before it smacked her on the head. The lady elf was by her side, and the floating ladder had brought her down from the high shelf where she once was.
"Are you alright, child?" She adjusted her glasses, her eyes mirroring her concern. Gazing at her up close, she was actually a short, plump, good-looking elf lady, and that sort of reminded Samantha of what she pictured a fairy godmother to look like.
Finding her own thoughts silly, Samantha responded with a smile as she handed the book back to the elf lady. From her uniform, Samantha could guess that she was a worker here.
"Pardon... but can you assist
with so direction? I’m here to et the chief Elf and I was wondering if you knew which part of the library he stayed in?"
"Oh, you’re close, just head straight and take a turn to your left when you see a reading signboard." She pointed in the direction, and Samantha expressed her thanks before moving on. Following the path where the worker had pointed, Samantha took a turn to her left after coming across the signboard, and before her was a multiple of tables, and a lot of them were vacant.
Her eyes finally fell upon the elderly elf who was seated at a quaint wooden table. The elf’s wise eyes– the color of ancient forest, looked up from an archaic grimoire, whilst acknowledging her presence. Samantha swallowed her hesitancy and approached the table where he sat.
She lowered her head as a form of greeting before he gestured for her to have her seat.
The ambient magic in the area seed to intensity, and the pages of the grimoire turned on their own. Samantha watched in awe as the pages flipped, and then they ca to a stop. Leaning closer to steal a peek, her pupils constricted in bewildernt as she gazed at the Illustration– it was the sa to the ones she had seen in the previous book, except, the Demon, who possessed frightening horns held a green Orb in front of the defeated Fae. When the pages turned once more, the Illustration that followed was the devastating ruins of many Kingdom.
"What... what is–"
"The seeker," he subtly began as he pushed the grimoire to Samantha, "innocent and unknowing, walks a path paved with both light and shadow. In her steps, echoes the resonance of fate, and in the silence of destiny, she becos the architect of both creation and destruction." He sounded oddly dry, and Samantha’s brows furrowed as she failed to grasp the aning behind his enigmatic words.
"I don’t... understand." Her gaze returned to the grimoire, confusion flickering through. "What do you an? I haven’t inford you of my reasons for coming here, but showing
this proves I have no need to explain myself."
"As the moon waxes and wanes, so too shall the seekers choice’s shape the world," the old elf continued, whilst his eyes revealed the weight of centuries, "if I didn’t have a clue I wouldn’t have agreed to this etup, but all I can say is that you, Samantha, carry within you the power to reshape the destinies of the realm. The ruins you see before you are not just echoes of the past, but whispers of what is to co. Your choices will echo through ti, and in the dance of fate, you may beco both a savior and a harbinger. The ruins of empires are likely to crumble on that day, and the echoes of the past may be silenced by the footsteps of a future unknown. Make the right decision, and leave with no regrets."
A heavy silence settled between them, and Samantha felt the weight behind what she was yet to realize. The old elf got up to his feet and took his leave, whilst Samantha was left to contemplate the profound implications of her journey. She was starting to have a headache due to all these riddles!
"Aishh... damnit!" She hissed out a cuss without realizing it. She really has to get out of here, and she was going to do so before she loses her mind.
