Chapter 90: Chapter 40. One step to Victory

Unfortunately, although I planned to delay this as long as possible, circumstances simply did not allow

to do so. As a result, I managed to ??hold out?? for only a few days.

It wasn’t easy for

for two reasons. Firstly, it turned out to be a difficult task to withstand the company of the main villain, who refused to leave

and insisted that she would take full care of

during my illness. And the second obstacle to the realization of my plan was the disease itself...

No matter how you look at it, it was simply impossible to continue being sick in such a situation!

Considering how generously the Crown Princess gave

various dicinal herbs and tinctures, I was sure that in the end it would have brought even a dead man to his feet. Besides, the doctor ca to check on my condition every day, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t deceive him in any way.

Therefore, no matter how much I would like the opposite, but very soon I started to recover. And after a couple of days, my condition returned to normal so much that I no longer needed additional care. That’s exactly what I tried to convey to the villain in the first place.

??Your Highness, I feel good already. You don’t have to stay here and keep an eye on

anymore...??

??I don’t think so,?? Kaena shook her head, ??hasn’t your fever completely subsided yet???

She put her hand to my forehead, and I hurried to remove it with a forced smile.

— The doctor said that my fever has subsided. Doesn’t that an that I’m already almost completely healthy?

— But... — The Princess hesitated.

??Besides, you’ve hardly left this room these days,?? I continued, ??but what about your job and other responsibilities???

— What does it matter? — The woman waved her hand: — Your condition is much more important than so stack of unresolved cases...

??And yet,?? I made a pitiful expression, ??I feel guilty for continuing to keep you here...

??.....??

— Even if you don’t think so, there are still many people who need you. And I don’t want you to let them down.

Thus, putting on the mask of a man full of good intentions, I still managed to get her out of here. After the Crown Princess gave up and left my chambers, I was able to breathe a sigh of relief for the first ti. However, along with that, a heavy sigh escaped my lips.

??Although I managed to stall for a bit, but in the end it only took a couple of days...?? At least, I hoped that my efforts had brought at least so benefit to the main character’s plan.

By the way, that evening I finally received a long-awaited ssage from her. After my maids left , I almost imdiately noticed the familiar silhouette of a bird at the window, which seed to be just waiting for this mont to appear here. I hurried there and imdiately opened it. The spiritual beast of the second princess gave

a ssage from her, and I imdiately read it.

??Dear Lady de Walt, I hope you are in good health and everything is fine with you. I am writing this letter to you because I urgently need to inform you that...?? — The following lines quickly flashed before my eyes.

And as soon as I finished reading the letter, a nagging feeling of excitent settled in my chest. In her letter, the main character reported that their squad had already completed all preparations for this operation and was ready for battle. In other words, they were only waiting for word from

now.

??Is it really going to end soon...???

Unable to fully comprehend this, I involuntarily clutched the parchnt in my hand. And yet the fact remained.

There was only one step left until the main villain was overthrown, and my long-awaited escape plan was finally being implented.

***

Not long before, in the library of the ice castle.

In a cold room flooded with sunlight, the baron’s youngest son sat at a table and enthusiastically explained to the maid Runni a new topic that they were going through this ti. There were parchnts and quills in front of them, and there was a cup of ink on the table. With curiosity in her eyes, Runie tried to focus on Milord’s words and did not look up from her textbook.

— Here, — Jeremy said, pointing to the letters. — Do you see the order of the words in this sentence? This is very important for proper spelling.

The maid nodded, leaning closer to the table. She was trying to morize the new rules of writing that the young lord had explained to her today with a concentrated expression on her face. At that mont, as she leaned a little closer, her hair accidentally caught on the edge of his clothes. Runnie, without noticing it, continued to listen while Jeremy continued his story enthusiastically.

And at so point, this led to an unforeseen situation.

— Runny, do you understand everything?

— Yes, my lord!

— In that case, now try to write it yourself, without my help.

— Yes...! — the maid nodded eagerly and was about to start the task, when suddenly the following happened.

When Runnie was about to lift her head from the table, she felt a sudden sharp pain. It turned out that several of her front strands had accidentally caught on the buttons of Jeremy’s jacket.

— Oh! Forgive , sir!

Embarrassed, the maid tried her best to remove her hair as soon as possible, but in the end it only got tangled even more.

— Stop! Wait, don’t move.

The baron’s youngest son, who was himself confused by what was happening, also made an attempt to ??separate?? them.

— Oh! — The maid grimaced in pain as her hair was pulled.

— Runny, are you in pain? — Jeremy asked worriedly.

— N-no, it’s fine...

In the end, the maid’s hair clung to his buttons so tightly that even Jeremy had to work hard to free them. And when it finally happened, they were both far from in the best shape.

— It finally worked out! — The guy breathed a sigh of relief.

— My Lord, I apologize again...! — the maid muttered guiltily when she finally managed to remove her head and pull away.

— No, it’s okay. It was an accident, after all.

At that mont, Jeremy noticed that the girl’s hair was very disheveled after the incident. Because of this, her appearance looked untidy, and Jeremy decided to help fix the situation. After all, since there was no mirror in the library, the maid couldn’t have done it herself.

— Runny, wait a minute.

She blinked, puzzled.

— Your hair is a little tangled. I’ll fix them for you.

Jeremy reached out his hand, intending to brush her tangled strands aside, unaware that anyone could interfere with them.

But at that very mont, both of them suddenly heard a sound from another part of the library. And there was that sound... the crack of an ice wall after being punched.

Both Jeremy and Ronnie froze at that mont.

Suddenly, the Northern Duchess entered the reading room. She stopped in the doorway when she saw her husband bending over the maid to remove a lock of hair from her face. For a mont, the air was deathly silent.

— I wish I knew... What’s going on here? — The woman’s voice was tinged with anger.
