Chapter 131: Rage

Emily was fuming. In fact, that did not seem enough of a description for her current mood. She was livid. Absolutely mad beyond belief. This had to be the angriest that she could rember being. And the more that Emily thought on what it was that had made her so...angry, the angrier she got.

She was fuelled by that rage as she made her way ho, and when she opened the apartnt door she nearly tore it off its hinges. Her mom, who was putting on her shoes in the living room looked up at the violent entrance.

"What happened to you? Did sobody spit in their tea and say it was you?" Her mom asked. Her tone half joking, but Emily could see in her eyes that she was worried.

Stomping into the apartnt, Emily slamd the door closed. Then she threw herself on the couch next to her mom.

"What is it about so n that just makes them think that won are their property? That they can just ask for whatever they want and think that it’s all right because they asked first?" Her mom gave her a look. "Ah... so you had one of those custors today," Emily nodded. She kicked off her shoes and then pulled her feet up, her knees close to her chest. Normally her mom would reprimand her for doing that, especially since she had not changed clothes and nor had she showered off the gri of the night. But clearly the older woman could see that Emily was not in the mood.

’My old boss ca to the diner and asked to sleep with ,’ she wanted to say. But since her mom was still laboring under the illusion that the situation at the diner was temporary, and Emily would be going back to Haven, she could not co out with that. So instead, she settled for sothing that was still the truth, but omitted a few things.

"One of my regular clients asked

to sleep with him today," She said, getting angry again just thinking about it.

"Absolutely out of nowhere and he just ca out with it all confident, like he was certain that I would agree. Like I’m so loose girl who sleeps with anything that walks by. Like I’m that desperate. What is it? Is it my profession? Does he look down on

because I’m a waitress? Or does he look down on all won like that and think that we’re all just cheap and easy?!"

"That all he has to do is say, ’I want to sleep with you’ and I’ll just jump into bed with him!"

She was not really looking for her mom to reply. She was just looking to vent. And her mom seed to get that, only nodding along as Emily spoke, voicing her frustrations. "I should have done more than just a slap across the cheek. I should have pulled him by his beard, and dragged him out of the diner. Beat him up in the middle of the street, so that others like him would know what happened to people who dared to think they could just ask soone that because they were a waitress,"

Her eyebrows going up to her hairline. Her mom gave her a look.

"Sweetheart, I know that you are angry and you have every right to be, but I am glad that you did not do that. That guy is just a regular pervert. Perverts are all over and we have to suffer through it. It’s not fair. But I’m glad that you did not ss up a job, even if it is only temporary, because of a random guy,"

’But it was not just a random guy, mom. It was Derek. Derek Haven. He was supposed to be different. I worked for him for two years and I never even got an inkling that he was like that,’ She wanted to tell her mom, but instead, she bit her tongue, and just nodded.

"You are right. Most likely he will not be coming back after that slap.

It is a good thing that I did not do anymore. The slap itself could co back to haunt . Emily told herself, and just thinking about that made her even angrier. It would be just like him. Now that she knew that he was a sleazebag to do sothing like that. Turning her defending herself into an unprovoked attack against him.

She was still fuming by the ti her mom left. And with no one to vent to, Emily turned her anger to the utensils in the house. First she cleaned up all the spoons and then she took out the clean plates from the cupboards, scrubbing and scrubbing until she could see her face in all of them.

With the plates washed, re-washed and washed again, Emily tried sothing else to calm herself. She went to shower, but the warm water did nothing to cool her temper. If anything, each and every tiny droplet against her skin just made her even angrier. Did he really think that he could touch her?!

That she would allow it! Fuming, Emily stepped out of the shower and changed into her pyjamas. She got into bed hoping for sleep, but that did not happen. She ended up kicking the blankets off and then getting up. When she tried to embroider, she ended up stabbing the cloth so hard it tore, and she had to put it away.

Going to the living room, Emily tried to watch so TV but each ti she found herself going back to Derek Haven. Will you sleep with ? Will you sleep with ? Had he seriously asked that? Getting angry all over again, Emily got up. This ti she did not bother trying to do anything that tried to suppress her rage. Instead she chose to do sothing that let it all out.

She began shadowboxing, imagining what she would do to Derek Haven if she ever saw him again. In fact, Emily made herself a promise. The next ti she saw him, there would be no demanding an apology. She was going to ss him up. She would wreck the handso face that was beneath that awful beard.

The promise sounded like a lie even as Emily made it, but she still chose to believe it.
