Chapter 431: Boss Lin as the Light
Fatty’s lips moved. He wanted to say sothing, but he stopped himself. Undeniably, the Doctor was one of the children.
“Where did they go in the end?” Fatty asked, “I an… the kids.”
“In the end, a larger organisation contacted us because they were willing to take them in. I was just an insignificant worker back then. I was quite friendly with him. That day, he was sick. I brought him to the hospital for inspection, so we missed the ti. When we returned, all the kids had been taken away.”
“So… only the Doctor was left?!” Fatty suddenly felt panicked. He knew that the Doctor was not a heartless person. He rely suppressed his emotions deeply. He still hadn’t forgiven the parents who had abandoned him. He often called himself an orphan. At first, Fatty thought he was joking, but slowly, he noticed sothing was wrong. When the Doctor said that, the light in his eyes would disappear. No one liked to be abandoned like trash at the corner.
When the Doctor returned to the orphanage, he was alone. All the children were gone and had their own hos. Every bed was neatly arranged. His friends’ warmth still lingered. Fatty believed the Doctor wouldn’t be able to sleep that night.
Lin Wan ‘Er’s thoughts also returned to that night. Her face started to change, but it soon disappeared. “An orphanage with one child doesn’t need to keep running, so I took him ho with . As I looked after him, I tried to find a foster family for him.” Lin Wan ‘Er smiled, “But my work beca busy. I forgot about the foster care job. A few years passed, and Xiao Cheng grew up. It beca even harder to find families willing to sell him.”
If soone else used the term sell to describe a child, Fatty would be uncomfortable, but Lin Wan ‘Er was different. Fatty knew that she wasn’t that busy that she’d forget a child. That was an excuse. She wanted to spend more ti with the Doctor. They had grown close. Furthermore, she was a young, pretty woman with a child. Fatty could imagine how difficult life must be for her.
He finally understood why the Doctor didn’t resist or run away when Boss Lin bullied him so much. At most, he’d go out and earn more money for Boss Lin. After all, who would hate soone who had delivered light in the dark?
Boss Lin was to the Doctor as the Doctor was to Fatty. Without the Doctor, Fatty would have died so many tis in the nightmare. If the Doctor needed, he could die for him.
Lin Wan ‘Er sighed and placed her hand on her face. “Thinking back, I did the right thing when I brought him to the hospital that day.”
Fatty nodded vehently. “Boss Lin, you’re a good person. The Doctor was lucky to have t you.” He assud Boss Lin had found the goodness in the Doctor after spending so ti with him.
“I think so too.” Lin Wan ‘Er smiled at Fatty, “But we’re not talking about the sa thing.”
Fatty was stunned.
“I was talking about the company that adopted the other children.” At this point, Lin Wan ‘Er frowned. “We did so investigation and realised that the docunts that they gave us were all fake. That company didn’t exist.
“When we realised that, we instantly went to that company. The workers of the orphanage visited them before we handed the children over to them. The company built a suitable living situation for them. However, when we arrived, the company… had disappeared.”
“Disappeared?” Fatty was confused.
“The whole building was empty. All the traces had been wiped. We couldn’t find anything. Naturally, the children were gone. We searched for years, but they appeared to have evaporated. Soone suspected they had been brought overseas.” Lin Wan ‘Er pressed her lips. “Without evidence, the police couldn’t help us.”
Even though Fatty wasn’t familiar with big corporations, to make an entire company and its employees disappear without a trace was not easy. A person would always leave a trace behind, that was what the Doctor taught him. The so-called cri was because the culprit was a good cleaner. Clearly, there was a conspiracy.
The company… was after the children. But why? They were supposedly children that no one wanted.
The conspiracies ford in Fatty’s mind. He rembered the news and the criminal movies he saw. The first thing he thought of was illegal organs. Those people wanted the children’s organs…
Before he said anything, Lin Wan ‘Er appeared to read his mind. She shook her head. “No. That would be too troubleso. It wouldn’t be worth the price.” That was true. If the goal was money, they could have done sothing that involved less risk. Based on their tactics, they had an impressive background. The water was deep.
If not for money, why would they be after the kids? Plus, they were after children who were said to have lost their emotions. Even the potential adoptive parents believed that these kids would grow into monsters…
Monsters!
Fatty suddenly thought of that. Then, the idea took root in his mind. The word stabbed him like a knife. This brought him a new train of thought.
Was that… their goal?
They wanted the children to grow up to beco monsters!
Fatty felt his world shaking. This hypothesis was too horrifying. His forehead was covered in cold sweat.
One Doctor was impossible to deal with. If ten of them appeared at the sa ti… and if they were all corrupted…
They would not have basic emotions like the Doctor because in their worlds, the light called Lin Wan ‘Er did not show up.
