Chapter 158: Chapter 158: The Fox’s Embarrassing Escape

After Rong Ye arrived, he quietly followed behind Su Qinglan.

He didn’t dare to say much... not after getting pinched, glared at, and nearly scolded to death by his female’s father.

He just obediently carried the big basket while Su Qinglan walked ahead, gathering herbs and plants.

Whenever she bent down to pick sothing, Rong Ye quickly stepped closer to hold the basket steady, afraid she might tire herself.

Su Qinglan pointed out several kinds of trees as they walked. "This one is good for smoking at," she explained, tapping a thick, dark-barked tree. "And that one, its leaves can be used to wrap food before cooking."

Rong Ye nodded seriously, pretending to understand everything. Inside, his thoughts were drifting like a lazy cloud. Why does everything she touch look so tasty?

The other females followed behind her, whispering among themselves.

Whenever Su Qinglan picked a fruit or root and put it into her basket, the other females imdiately did the sa.

If she took it, then it must be delicious.

One by one, their baskets started to fill with herbs, fruits, vegetables, roots, and even so wild mushrooms Su Qinglan said were safe to eat.

The air was lively with chatter and laughter. Even the beastn husbands followed closely, carefully rembering Su Qinglan’s words so they could help their females later during cooking.

"You can sun dry these fruits," she explained again, smiling, "and it will last longer."

The beastn nodded like obedient students.

After a long while, they finally decided it was ti to go back. The sun was getting higher in the sky, and everyone was tired.

The females stretched their arms and sighed, their faces red from walking for so long.

Su Mingxuan looked around and noticed his daughter wiping sweat from her forehead. His heart imdiately tightened with worry.

He turned his sharp eyes toward Rong Ye.

"You," he said firmly. "Turn into your beast form and carry Qinglan back to the tribe."

Su Qinglan blinked at her father, then looked at Rong Ye. "That’s fine," she said softly. "You can carry . I’m tired too."

But the mont those words left her mouth, Rong Ye’s body froze.

His whole body stiffened in horror.

Turn into his fox form?

Right now?

In front of everyone?

No way! Absolutely no way!

He felt cold sweat forming on his back. His face twitched.

Because... his tail.

That evil snake, Xuan Long, jealous of his beautiful fur, had plucked a chunk from his fluffy tail, making it look unsightly and bald.

Now his glorious, shiny tail had an empty patch... completely ugly!

If he turned into his beast form, everyone would see it!

He imagined Su Qinglan’s shocked face, and what if she thought he was ugly and would disdain him.

No. Absolutely not.

He couldn’t let anyone... especially his beautiful female see his tail like that.

Rong Ye gulped, his violet eyes darting nervously between Su Qinglan and her father.

Everyone was waiting.

"Rong Ye," Su Mingxuan said again, his tone already darkening, "what are you waiting for?"

Rong Ye forced a stiff smile. "Ah... right... beast form... yes... I..."

But he didn’t move.

The longer he stood there, the darker Su Mingxuan’s face beca. Even Su Qinglan looked confused.

She tilted her head slightly and asked gently, "Rong Ye, what’s wrong?"

All around them, the other females had already climbed onto their beast husbands’ backs, and the unmated ones were being carried by the younger beastn.

Everyone was ready to head back.

Except one miserable fox.

Rong Ye felt the pressure building. His heart was pounding fast. He wanted to cry.

If he turned into a fox... humiliation.

If he refused... certain death from his female’s glare.

He was dood either way.

So he did the only thing that ca to his panicking mind.

He suddenly bent down, scooped Su Qinglan into his arms, and lifted her effortlessly off the ground.

Su Qinglan gasped, her hands flying to his shoulders. "Rong Ye!"

Before anyone could even understand what happened, Rong Ye said loudly, his tone full of fake confidence, "Tribe Leader! Lan likes to travel like this!"

Everyone froze.

Even Su Mingxuan blinked in confusion. "...What?"

But Rong Ye didn’t wait for anyone to answer.

He imdiately bolted.

One second he was standing there, the next he was gone running through the forest like his tail was on fire.

"Rong Ye!" Su Qinglan squeaked as she bounced slightly in his arms. "What are you doing!?"

Rong Ye didn’t dare to answer. His face was burning red. His ears twitched wildly.

"I’m saving my pride!" he muttered under his breath, running faster.

Behind him, the tribe mbers were left standing in stunned silence.

Then Bai Ling suddenly burst out laughing. "Hahaha! He ran away like soone’s chasing him!"

Zhuo Huai grunted, shaking his head. "That fox must have done sothing stupid again."

Su Mingxuan rubbed his temples, his jaw tight.

"That fox..." he growled softly, "if I catch him, I will pluck all of his tail." He really didn’t know why he had decided to take this fox as her daughter’s beast husband.

Now looking back at his past self, he kind of regretted it but also knew if he still went to the past, he would still make the sa decision.

Because his daughter liked this beautiful fox way too much, and he couldn’t ignore her happiness. So now he could only endure this clumsy fox.

anwhile, far ahead, Su Qinglan was still being carried like a princess, her hair flying with the wind.

"Rong Ye! Stop running! I’m not a sack of potatoes! And weren’t you limping just monts ago?" she shouted in full volu.

Rong Ye just ran faster, his heart thudding. "I can’t, Lan! My tail’s life is at stake!"

Su Qinglan blinked. "Your tail?"

But before she could ask further, Rong Ye suddenly tripped on a root, stumbled a few steps, then barely regained balance but still held her safely.

And Su Qinglan’s eyes widened as he stumbled, and she scread, "Rong Ye, if you drop , you will be finished."
