Chapter 98 - His Fleet

Dreadfort Castle

POV of Doric Bolton

Doric opened his eyes and looked at the sun shining on his face through the window.

Still feeling a little sleepy, he pulled his pillow to his face and tried to go back to sleep once again but he knew that he wouldn't be able to. So, after trying for a little while, he pulled himself off the bed and looked outside at the growing city through his one-way mirror glass window.

He could see the half-completed wall in the distance. At this rate, the whole wall would probably only take one or two more years to complete.

The reasons why the wall was being built at such a rapid pace were because firstly, he had used a vast area of magic to create a strong foundation for the wall, so they didn't have to waste ti to dig a deep foundation themselves. Secondly, he had made every resource available to the builders within walking distance. Thirdly, he had hired a 'lot' of builders, and the builders were quite dedicated to the work as the slackers got their pay cut while those who showed results gained bonuses.

He supposed that this was his mantra for all the structures he was building all across his realm.

Produce all the building materials required, hire a lot of workers, and put competent people in charge.

He looked to the right side of the growing city and could see the marvel of the hard work of his Glass Makers.

The 100 glass houses he had commissioned had already been completed. He had also put a lot of effort into bringing so of the most fertile soil from the south and putting that soil inside the glass houses along with a good deal of fertilizer.

By now he had already completed carving runes in half of them. He still had to carve runes himself. This was one of the problems he could not find a solution to in the past years. He knew he needed magical ink that could be carved by non-magical folk, but he didn't know how to make one and his research on it had not yet yielded any significant results.

Regardless, the farrs selected for this task have already planted the plants he provided them with, and they would be ready for harvest in due ti.

Then, he wouldn't have to go to the Arbor whenever he wanted so fresh tropical fruits for breakfast or wouldn't have to import every damn spice from either Dorne or Sumr Isle.

And there was a tall structure in the center of his growing city. The Clock Tower. Normally it couldn't be completed this fast, but he used a lot of magic during its construction secretly. Still, the main structure of the clock tower and the lookout terrace were completed but its interior structure which would be used as a museum wasn't finished yet.

When he thought about unfinished buildings his eyes shifted to the grand library. This would be probably the largest structure in his lands even in the future. He wanted to finish it as soon as possible but he didn't have enough manpower, and he knew that there were more important buildings to be finished.

So, he had to assign most of the manpower from his grand library's construction to structures with high priorities. Because of that, his library's construction speed slowed a lot, but he couldn't do anything about it at the mont.

In the future when so of his constructions were completed, he would assign so manpower to the construction of his library and would support its construction with his magic secretly. Like he did with his clock tower's construction.

After he pondered on his grand library's construction, he looked to the East and although he could not see the port from where he was standing, he could still see the boats going along the Weeping Water River from Dreadfort to Bolton Port.

The port also grew by a fair amount in the past year and so did the fleet, which now stood at 200 ships strong.

The shipbuilders had worked hard in the last year. They were building and adding one more ship to his fleet every 4-5 days.

The result was that he now had 60 Carracks, 60 Galleons, 30 brig, 20 whaler ships, and 30 War Galleys. Plus, there were 20 more galleys that Muron took with the various skirmishes from the pirates. Most of which had already been repaired and added to his fleet, taking it to a total of 220 ships.

Of course, his fleet was still nothing compared to the Redwynes who had an impressive fleet of 1200 ships. 1000 trading ships and 200 War Galleys. Let alone the Behemoth known as Braavos which had a fleet of 3400 ships to its na. 3000 trading ships and 400 War Galleys.

But then again, Braavos and Arbor are both large trading hubs and have built such a large fleet over a long period of ti while his fleet is only 4 years old.

He still took a great amount of pride in his fleet. Because even if it was no match for the Redwynes or Braavosi Fleet, it was still the second-largest fleet in Westeros, overtaking the Royal Fleet and Iron Fleet with 160 ships and 100 ships by sheer numbers alone.

Not that he felt much of an accomplishnt as the Royal Fleet and Iron Fleet didn't give him much of a challenge.

Still, there were so many great houses in Westeros that had a port of their own. Lannisters, Hightowers, Arryn of the Gulltown, Baratheon of the Storms End, and the Martell. He had not only built a port out of nothing but had also created the second-largest fleet in the Seven Kingdoms in only 4 years.

Yes, he was proud of his fleet.
