Chapter 335: Work of Art
WILOW-Ch.335: Work of Art
Dreadfort Castle, Bolton Lands
POV of Doric Bolton
Doric approached Ygritte and summoned another magical object from his inventory.
And when this object appeared before them, Ygritte couldn’t help but be surprised. Then she asked.
"Doric, what is this?"
To the people living in this world, the object before them might have been completely alien, but in Doric’s old world, many people could imdiately recognize what it was.
The magical object currently before Doric and Ygritte was a car.
Or rather, a flying car, it would be more accurate to call it, because this vehicle hovered about fifty centiters above ground.
Although looking at its wheel-less and futuristic design, Doric thought it resembled a mini spaceship more than a car.
But it perfectly matched Doric’s imagination for flying cars.
Even just its appearance, it was clearly far superior to the Weasleys’ flying car.
And with the features Doric had worked on and added over two weeks, it truly earned its place as a work of art.
Although he still had many more features in mind, Doric was quite proud of this creation of his.
And it seed he had found a new hobby. He planned to build other flying cars of different sizes and designs in the future, whenever he had free ti.
"This... is... a work of art, my love," said Doric, looking at the grey monster made of Frost Steel in front of him.
"Seriously, Doric, what is this?" asked Ygritte.
"This is a flying car. In my previous world, people used a wheel-based version of this instead of horse-drawn carriages for land travel. I modified the design a bit and added a flying feature, just like hoverboards. But this one can carry more people." He explained.
"So, you’re thinking of going to Moat Cailin with this?" she asked.
"Yes. Using flying brooms and hoverboards on long journeys is quite tiring for the body. And boring. That’s why I built a more comfortable flying vehicle for long journeys. Moreover, I have other plans for this vehicle." He said.
"Are you sure it’s safe?" she asked.
"There’s no need to worry. I’ve done enough test flights to confirm its safety. But I still haven’t used it for long flights. Today’s flight will be the first long-distance one. But there’s nothing to be afraid of while I’m with you. Let’s go. After all, there’s an army waiting for us to catch up."
Doric said, and after leading Ygritte to the passenger door of the two-door car, he slid it open and helped Ygritte sit in the leather passenger seat.
Ygritte had to admit it was the most comfortable seat she had ever sat in. Even the seats Doric had made for his own horse-drawn carriage weren’t this comfortable.
Doric then slid down the door again to close it.
It was the first ti Ygritte had seen a vehicle door open and close in both upward and downward directions.
Before Ygritte could even take his eyes off the way the door opened and closed, Doric quickly ca to the driver’s side, opened the door, got in, and closed it.
As Doric took his place, Ygritte’s attention was drawn to him from the door on her left, and she turned to her right to look at Doric.
He saw her open her mouth to say sothing, but because she turned her head, her attention was drawn to the back of the car, so she turned back and began examining the area behind the seats.
And frankly, Doric could understand her. Behind the driver and passenger seats in the front, there was a spacious, high-ceilinged seating area.
Doric had designed this area inspired by the sitting area of limousines, but he had used space magic to expand it further, even allowing for comfortable standing.
"Isn’t it beautiful?" he said.
"Yes, it is. But how much ti did you spend on this vehicle?" she asked, turning back towards Doric.
"A lot. But every second was worth it for this work of art," he said.
Then, touching the center of the steering wheel, he pressed the magic start circle to activate the vehicle’s features.
Doric had designed both a joystick and a steering wheel system for operating this vehicle.
For flights requiring up-and-down maneuvers, the joystick was definitely more helpful, but for fixed altitude flying over land or water, using the steering wheel would be more convenient.
As soon as Doric started the vehicle, many magical devices and screens at the front activated and began to function.
Doric had expanded many parts of the vehicle’s interior with Extension Charms, which he used for various purposes.
One of these expanded interior parts contained a magic circle that worked with 10 Heart Trees, infusing the vehicle with magic.
Therefore, all the features of this vehicle could be used without Doric using his own magic.
In fact, after Doric registered them in the vehicle’s security system, the car could even be used by ordinary people.
Seeing Ygritte looking at the activated feature buttons and screens, he thought it would be best to warn her before sothing bad happened, and said, "Ygritte, please ask
before you touch anything. I don’t want to drop wildfire balls while flying suddenly."
"Mudballs? Can you shoot wildfire balls from the air with this?"
"Yep. And it can do many more things. But now you need to fasten your seat belts so we can begin our journey." He said.
"Seat belts? How?" she asked.
And Doric rembered that no one else in the world ever got in a car except himself.
Normally, seat belts weren’t necessary in this vehicle, but since Doric had never taken a long road trip in it, he didn’t want to leave things to chance.
In the worst-case scenario, the seats could eject themselves, and that’s why seat belts had to be fastened.
After helping Ygritte fasten her sports-car-type seat belts, Doric was ready to begin his journey.
Doric activated invisibility mode by touching one of the magic circles on the joystick he held in his left hand. Once the vehicle was invisible, Doric began to drive it upwards.
