Chapter 211: Differences Between Gods
Chapter 211: Differences Between Gods
Purgatory, The Land Where Life and Death Intersect
POV of Doric Bolton
"Hello, Death,"
"Hello, Terra. It’s been a while, hasn’t it?" Lady Death said.
"Yes, it’s been a while. But you know you shouldn’t be here, Death. This isn’t a dead land. Do you realize how much trouble you’ve caused ?"
"I know, Terra. But one thing led to another, and I eventually had to co here. Anyway, this is Harry Jas Potter. But his na in this world is Doric Bolton. Harry and I were about to have a chat. Would you like to join us?" Lady Death said, pointing first at Harry and then at the table she had prepared.
"Oh, Bolton! You must be the one my children are talking about. And not only are you a Bolton, you’re also one of the Potter children Death seems to be fond of. Interesting. Now it looks like I’ll definitely join you."
Said the new god nad Terra. Doric thought it would be a good idea to address her as Lady, like Lady Death.
Lady Terra was green-haired and had green eyes. She wore a white dress, adorned with leaves in many places. She also had several long braids that wrapped around her dress and reached the floor, but to Doric, they looked more like vines than hair.
At first glance, Lady Terra reminded Doric of Children of the Forest.
"Then let’s continue our conversation while we sit down and have a snack, shall we?" Lady Death said, and with a wave of her hand, a new chair and a new glass were added to the table.
Lady Death and Lady Terra ca over to the table and sat down in their chairs, and Doric followed them to the vacant chair. Frankly, what he’d been thinking about when he’d co here to talk to Lady Death was definitely different from what he’d encountered.
After everyone had taken their places at the table, Lady Death waved her hand again, this ti gently. The teapot rose from its place on the table and began pouring tea into the cups.
Once the tea was filled and the cups were in front of everyone, Lady Death raised her cup and took a sip. Then, turning to Doric, she spoke.
"So, Harry. You can start by asking your questions. Don’t worry, as I said before, we have plenty of ti. So, there’s no need to rush."
"Uh... so are you two really the Old Gods that the Northerners of this world believe in? And besides, you just used the term Primordial God. What does that an exactly?" Doric asked.
Before coming here, he had many different questions in mind. However, when he arrived and saw that the gods of this world were real, Doric decided to learn more about them first. After all, Lady Death had said they had plenty of ti.
"Death, we do not normally inform mortals about these matters. You should know that. You weren’t even supposed to use those terms around him." Before Lady Death could respond, Lady Terra interjected.
"You don’t have to worry, Terra. Harry is a special person. You’ll understand as we speak," Lady Death said, turning to Lady Terra, and then back to Doric. Lady Terra stared at Lady Death for a mont, as if trying to understand her, but ultimately said nothing.
"Old Gods and Primordial Gods. Frankly, Harry, to understand these concepts, I’ll need to explain the concept of god a bit. And to be honest, we are not gods." Lady Death said and chuckled at the look of surprise on Doric’s face.
Then she continued. "If we define God as omnipotent and omniscient, we are definitely not gods. We are powerful beings, but we are not all-knowing or all-powerful. However, many mortal beings who witnessed our power, unable to comprehend its extent, called us gods, and over ti, that moniker stuck. You know how monikers stick, don’t you?" Lady Death asked with a smile.
But Doric had no smile on his face. He knew all too well how monikers could stick. In his forr life, he’d been known for years as the boy-who-lived. That was one reason he didn’t like people calling him "boy."
"Yes, thanks to you, I know it very well," said Doric in a flat voice.
"Uh..." Lady Death apparently realized she had said the wrong thing and quickly continued speaking to change the subject. anwhile, Lady Terra was giggling.
"Anyway, there’s only one omnipotent and omniscient god in the multiverse, and we were created by that only god. I can’t say much about the creator because we don’t know much ourselves, but we call our creator the One Above All. We’re more like One Above All’s assistants and servants. We contribute to the functioning of universes by fulfilling the duties given to us."
Lady Death said, pausing to give Doric ti to digest the information he had just received. anwhile, she took a few sips of her tea before continuing.
"As assistants to the One Above All in the workings of universes, we were granted certain powers. My domain is Death. Terra’s domain is Nature. But not every domain granted was of the sa level. So encompassed more powerful and essential concepts, while others were relatively weak and not essential," she said, and continued after taking another sip of her tea.
"Therefore, these different levels of power were given different titles. The most essential and powerful domains, such as Death, Nature, Life, the Void, and Chaos, were referred to as the Primordial Force. These powers are essential for creating the universe and new worlds. Other powers were also given nas based on their level and necessity, such as Elder Force, Special Force, Young Force, and so on."
Lady Death said, and Doric understood at that mont where the titles of Primordial God and Young Gods ca from, and why the power difference between them was so significant.
"What about the Old Gods? Where does that term co from?" Doric asked.
"Let
explain that." Lady Terra said before Lady Death could speak.
"Sure, go ahead," Lady Death said, and she picked up her teacup and began to sip.
