Chapter 690: Chapter 690: Hospital Confession
This is the first ti Guo Jinnian has ever felt so cherished by a man - it was as if she was on cloud nine. In an unexpected twist, she believed that suffering from appendicitis was actually worth it.
She didn’t have a clue about what was going through Gu Hongwei’s mind, or why he hadn’t confessed his feelings to her yet. But for now, it didn’t matter; she was just going to enjoy the care he was offering. She had gotten so comfortable with him that she didn’t mind him witnessing her discharge of intestinal gas.
After drinking half a bowl of soup, Guo Jinnian’s appetite was awakened, "Give
another bowl, I can drink more."
Gu Hongwei refused, "It’s not good for you to drink too much soup after surgery. If you have to use the restroom frequently, you might tear your wound. Have less soup and eat so als instead."
With that said, he opened another food box to feed her. Guo Jinnian felt very ward by his attentiveness, and though she wanted to have more soup, she obediently refrained from having more. After eating half a bowl of rice, Gu Hongwei discouraged her from having more.
"It’s not good to eat too much right after surgery. Have so now, and resu your normal diet tomorrow."
After speaking, he finished the rest of the soup and rice, even without minding that the bowl and chopsticks had been used by her. His actions of intimate behavior were so subtle that it made Guo Jinnian’s mind wander.
Gu Hongwei, however, was seemingly unaffected. After finishing his al, he washed the utensils and then returned to ask, "Do you need to use the restroom?"
Ironically, she felt the need to use the restroom the mont the question was posed. The awkwardness she had just managed to suppress ca rushing back at the thought of being escorted to the restroom by him, leaving her feeling extrely uncomfortable. Just as she was about to refuse, she heard Gu Hongwei say,
"Never mind, you just rest! I will go out and get you a bedpan."
Hearing his words, Guo Jinnian was instantly mortified. Ignoring all etiquette, she yelled: "Gu Hongwei, get back here, I don’t want to use the restroom while lying on this bed. Co and support
over there."
Gu Hongwei, who had just reached for the doorknob, pulled his hand back, calmly turned around, and replied, "This is a hospital. We should maintain quietness."
Guo Jinnian was on the edge of hysteria, "You are going to buy a bedpan, how am I supposed to keep calm?"
As she said this, she struggled to get up from her bed. Gu Hongwei quickly rushed over to support her. Owing to her surgical wound, Hu Hongwei couldn’t carry her, in fear it might tear the wound. So Gu Hongwei could only gently help her get up. Fortunately, she had a robust constitution and was able to quietly get out of bed just few hours after her operation.
Due to the awkwardness she felt due to the washroom ordeal, she could hardly bear to look at Gu Hongwei. She thought to herself, ’Why didn’t I just die on the operating table?’
After Gu Hongwei adjusted her blanket and turned off the light, he slept on the bed opposite to hers in the hospital ward. The room was quiet except for the sound of their breathing. After a while, Guo Jinnian couldn’t bear it and said,
"The whole thing about you helping
to use the restroom must be kept a secret. Don’t tell it to anyone. I am planning to et potential suitors in so ti. I don’t want this incident to affect their perception of ."
With a composed expression, Gu Hongwei responded, "I fed you and helped you to the restroom. I cared for you with so much affection, and yet you still want to et potential suitors?"
His voice was calm, but his words made Guo Jinnian’s heartbeat race. Trying to hide her laughter, she pressed on, "Gu Hongwei, what do you an by that? If you want to confess your feelings, please do so clearly. I might not understand otherwise. I have no education and am slow. I can’t understand profound words."
Gu Hongwei replied, "I have noticed. If you were as intelligent as Yaoyao, you wouldn’t be thinking about eting suitors."
The response stirred Guo Jinnian even more. She badly wished to ask him outright whether he liked her or not, but she held back, "What do you an by that? Are you not happy about
eting suitors?"
This was in a dark ward, and it was certain they wouldn’t see each other’s faces. So, Guo Jinnian was a bit more daring than usual.
Gu Hongwei replied, "I had planned to propose to you after Enzhen’s Full Moon Wine Ceremony. After waiting for
all these years, I didn’t want to compromise with a simple ceremony. I did not want you to feel aggrieved. But I didn’t expect you to plan to et suitors behind my back. So, after thinking for a while, I decided to tell you right now. Otherwise, you might end up quickly marrying soone else out of impatience."
Guo Jinnian was left stunned. She had always thought that Gu Hongwei might not like her and didn’t want to hurt her feelings, which is why he didn’t confess. Little did she know that he also had his plans.
Guo Jinnian felt miserable for so reason but at the sa ti, was elated with the revelation that Gu Hongwei did have feelings for her. She was grinning from ear to ear.
After Guo Jinnian confird Hongwei’s feelings for her, she suddenly beca haughty. "Gu Hongwei, what are you playing at? I never said I liked you. Who waited for you? It’s as if you are a hot cake and in high demand. Let
tell you, I am also not bad!"
Seeing her misinterpretation, Gu Hongwei went on to clarify, "I didn’t say you were inferior. You are always the best in my eyes. You are way better than those girls in our company. You are the most special."
Gu Hongwei had not confessed his feelings for her until now, not because he didn’t like her, but because his company was not in a stable position, and he was very busy. He didn’t have much ti to think about anything else. The fact that Guo Jinnian was always waiting for him made Gu Hongwei feel like they had plenty of ti. He had planned to organize a grand confession ceremony for Guo Jinnian after Han Renzhen’s Full Moon Wine Ceremony. Little did he know that she was planning to go on dates behind his back.
If it were not for her appendicitis, he would still be oblivious to her intentions.
Now, the grand proposal he’d planned was replaced by a very casual confession.
Guo Jinnian was ecstatic, and at the sa ti, pretended to express revulsion. "Gu Hongwei, aren’t your sugary sweet words making you feel nauseated? Who in the world confesses in a hospital? Shouldn’t you at least wait until I get discharged before saying these things to ? This confession doesn’t count. When I’m discharged, you need to confess again. And this ti, in front of Yaoyao, and Uncle Tong and Aunt Wen. I don’t care, but you need to propose one more ti, otherwise, I won’t feel satisfied."
Gu Hongwei remained silent. After waiting for a while without hearing a response from him, a restless Guo Jinnian broke the silence. "Hey, Gu Hongwei, speak up. Will you confess again or not?"
She had been waiting for so many years, had turned thirty, served as a godmother for years, and was almost about to give up. And now, Gu Hongwei finally decided to confess his feelings for her. At the very least, he should confess two more tis to make her feel sowhat satisfied, right?
Gu Hongwei murmured, "It’s getting late, you should sleep early. You need to rest well after the operation."
Guo Jinnian was feeling depressed, scratching her ears out of agitation. She wished she could crawl over and demand an answer from him. However, she was still weak from the operation and she succumbed to her fatigue and fell asleep unhappily.
Before falling asleep, she was pondering - even soone like Aunt Hu, who had given up on marriage, had finally found happiness in it. So, why couldn’t she wait patiently for her cloud with a silver lining? But it seems like heavens also had rcy on her. Finally, Gu Hongwei confessed his feelings to her. She must share this great news with Hu Haiyun tomorrow morning.
After all, Hu Haiyun had said that he would attend her wedding when she got married to Gu Hongwei.
