Chapter 983: Chapter 983: Her Safe Haven
"Co here, why are you hiding from ?" Matthew Saxon’s deep voice carried a hint of displeasure as he stretched out his large hand and pulled her into his embrace.
He gently pressed her head against his chest. In the darkness, his hoarse voice carried a unique temptation, as if it had a magical power that made one’s heart flutter.
When his hand wrapped around her waist, Scarlett Yates broke out in goosebumps all over.
His other hand reached for the buttons on her nightgown. His slightly cool fingertips paused at her collar, then deftly unbuttoned the first button of her nightgown.
Scarlett gasped sharply, hurriedly grabbed his hand, bit her lip, and said with a tense voice, "Matthew, aren’t we... aren’t we moving a bit too fast?"
Even though she had ntally prepared herself in advance, when the mont actually ca, she was still nervous to death.
Her body was as stiff as a rock, and her equally rigid voice revealed her tension.
With a low laugh, Matthew unbuttoned the first button and then moved his hand away. He reached out to rub her head, laughing, "Scarlett, I just saw you dressed so tightly, worried you might feel suffocated, so I helped you unbutton one. What did you think I was going to do?"
Scarlett felt embarrassed again.
What did he an! Was she being presumptuous again?
Her face burned, scorching with embarrassnt, and she was thankful the lights were off so nothing could be seen; otherwise, she really wanted to dig a hole and crawl into it.
This series of misunderstandings not only made her seem presumptuous but also made it seem like she was repeatedly hinting at him.
She had thought Matthew was going to take the opportunity to tease her again, but unexpectedly, he just chuckled twice, rubbed her head, and then said softly, "It’s getting late. Let’s sleep. We have to take wedding photos early in the morning."
As he spoke, he held her closer, one hand falling on the back of her head, gently patting her there as if to soothe a child.
Scarlett felt relieved that the thing she had been worried about since morning hadn’t happened, and she also felt a little touched.
Matthew didn’t force her indiscriminately, which made her feel his respect for her.
In the darkness, after quieting down, all one could hear was each other’s breathing.
Leaning in Matthew’s arms, Scarlett felt very at ease, as if she had found her own safe haven.
She snuggled further into his embrace, rubbing her head against him like a cat seeking warmth, pressing her whole body against him.
She also reached out to hug him.
Her hands lightly circled his waist, and then she gently whispered, "Matthew, goodnight."
The person she embraced seed to pause for a mont, then chuckled softly, lowering his head to plant a light kiss on her forehead, "Scarlett, goodnight."
--
That night, Scarlett slept soundly.
When she awoke from the dream, she felt refreshed, her whole body seemingly filled with energy.
She yawned, rubbed her eyes, and sat up in bed, turning her head to look at the empty space beside her.
The empty spot still radiated warmth, indicating Matthew had just gotten up not long ago too.
The room had only one wall lamp on, and the curtains were still drawn, unchanged from the night before.
With a creak, the bathroom door opened.
