The earliest versions of fairy tales mostly had nothing to do with descriptions like “innocent and kind.” On the contrary, they were extrely realistic and even carried so horror elents. Apparently, the young Witches of the Fifth Era were believed to need exposure to such stories from childhood.

Though such stories are no longer suitable for children in the present Sixth Era, they are indeed very suitable for adults.
