Chapter 1808: Chapter 1807: Demon, God, and Diviner
The corpse hit the ground with a heavy sound, and then the flas of the bonfire erupted, tens of thousands of coins clattered out again, forming the Demon Face, which stared wide-eyed at Shard and the young Witch:
"Look at you, you actually killed your own companion."
But it was not to criticize their actions:
"Actually, I can also retrieve the corpse; a corpse can be exchanged for coins too."
Miss Higgins raised her hand, and the boy’s corpse self-ignited, burning into black charcoal in re seconds:
"Although he wanted to murder , I would not give his corpse to the demon. This is what distinguishes , an elegant, noble, and perfect witch, from such a vile person."
However, she picked up the boy’s remaining two coins. She intended to share one with Shard, but Shard waved his hand to refuse:
"Consider it compensation for his attempt to murder you."
Miss Higgins snorted, but didn’t refuse.
"If I can’t have his body, can’t I still take his soul? He just ca back and promised to sell his soul to !"
The laughing demon took a sharp inhale, and the boy’s terrified soul appeared in the black mist, uncontrollably flying towards the coin-ford mouth.
Shard and Miss Higgins both frowned; the Great Sin Chains flew out again, binding the soul’s ankle. Miss Higgins softly prayed, and countless golden cross symbols flew from her back, protecting Shard, Grandma Miles, the boy’s soul, and the witch herself.
Preventing the demon from taking any soul is a consensus among all Circle Sorcerers and witches. Even enemies with whom one has deep hatred should not beco trophies for demons after death. It is a shared responsibility of the wise beings who have wielded supernatural power after the Third Era.
"You cannot take him."
Miss Higgins and Shard stood side by side:
"Even if he promised to sell his soul to you, we can buy it back. He still has two coins left."
At this mont, Shard was pulling the chains with all his might, yet the force drawing the boy’s soul remained unabated.
"Two coins? Do you all despise your own clan’s souls so much?"
The demon asked in the firelight, flas burst from the gaps between coins, but couldn’t penetrate the witch’s shield.
"Then how much do you want?"
Even knowing that asking this question would fall into the demon’s trap, Shard had no choice but to inquire.
The demon laughed heartily:
"This is the fairest trading place. 50 coins, his soul full of malice and hate is worth 50 coins."
Upon hearing this number, Shard knew neither he nor Miss Higgins would be willing to pay that price.
"Throw two coins to it."
Shard said to Miss Higgins, then single-handedly grasped the chains while his left hand wrote a demonic contract in the air, the content of the Malbas Demon Book:
"This is a deposit. When I return next ti, I will buy his soul. If I fail, you can take his soul away without asking for the deposit back."
"Deposit? Very good, I like that word! This is fair business!"
The two coins were absorbed by the demon, which then scattered into thousands of coins again and returned to beneath the bonfire.
The boy’s soul was not temporarily freed, remaining fixed in the position of struggle when being drawn away. Shard retrieved his chains, ignoring him, but addressed the witch and Grandma Miles who had closed her eyes monts ago:
"This ti I’m truly leaving."
Earlier deliberately leaving was to lure the nearby boy into appearing; now the ti had genuinely co:
"I’ll handle the soul’s matter. If I truly cannot buy it, let it be his own paynt for his actions."
Shard sighed, and Miss Higgins nodded:
"It must be so; one must always pay for their actions."
Shard then spoke to the elderly woman:
"Mrs. Miles, please save the final mory for next ti. If any accidents occur, I can also assist."
"Alright, after waiting so long, a little longer won’t matter. I want to be ntally prepared too. Hearing the stories of the past between him and
has already satisfied ."
The elderly woman nodded too; both she and Miss Higgins thought Shard didn’t want to miss the exciting part, but actually, Shard was still reminded of the deity who hadn’t shown up yet.
Grandma Miles’s wish, barring accidents, would soon be fulfilled; the boy achieved his desire for revenge power; and Miss Higgins had obtained the Mithril Mountain, likely reaping the most rewards. Next ti he returns, Shard not only needs to try reclaiming the soul from the demon but also make that deity voluntarily appear.
There must be ans in the market for Shard to acquire information, likely all relating to that deity. The Outlander probably already guessed where the deity was; remaining was for the Deity to voluntarily appear. And the demon should be a good conduit.
Of course, as to whether Grandma Miles could indeed reunite with the lover who left her hotown in ages past, Shard was still greatly curious.
Thus, after bidding farewell to the two ladies, he turned and walked into the black mist. As he walked forward, the luminous white mist gradually replaced the black mist until Shard erged from his own bedroom door, seeing his ho on Thursday morning, seeing Luviya holding Mia waiting for his return.
Listening to Grandma Miles recounting her love story earlier made Shard reflect on his own love story. At this mont, seeing his heroine... one of them, he couldn’t help but smile.
"You seem to be in a good mood. So, did you not encounter any trouble this ti?"
asked the purple-eyed girl holding a cat.
"No, the trouble this ti was quite big, but it’s alright."
Shard thought for a mont:
"I’ll just leave the remaining matters to the doctor. But, I want to inquire about a relic, a divination relic."
"Go ahead."
The purple-eyed girl looked at him curiously, while the cat in her arms finally took the opportunity to escape.
"If nothing goes wrong, that relic should be Unclassified Level (0 level). I only know its na from the previous era and am not sure if it still goes by that na. It is inscribed with [’Unveil the Mist to See the Truth’], and at the ti, it was called [’Fate’s Pedestal’]."
The next mont, Luviya lunged at Shard.
This wasn’t an exaggerated taphor; the purple-eyed girl really did pounce over. Besides the tis in the bedroom at night, Shard rarely saw her so emotional.
Those purple eyes widened, and her hands grabbed Shard’s lapels:
"Brass Crystal Ball Base, you’ve seen [’Fate’s Pedestal’]?"
"Yes, don’t be so excited. Oh, Mia, Luviya doesn’t an to hurt , don’t extend your claws."
He retrieved a star-ocean-colored translucent book from the air, opened it up, and held it in front of him, intending to show the appearance of that relic, but coincidently, this ti, the object was exceptionally blurry in the book, although Shard’s mory was quite clear.
"This is it! It truly is [’Fate’s Pedestal’]!"
Seeing the blurry appearance of the relic on the page, Luviya’s excited expression intensified even more:
"Where did you see it? Where did you see it?"
"Black Mist Camp, but it probably can’t be found there now. However, I’m certain this relic is greatly associated with the Old God - Golden Sovereign. Although the [’Golden Sovereign’] departed in the Fifth Era, maybe His believers... Oh!"
The purple-eyed girl hugged his head and gave him a deep kiss:
"I need to go to the Association! If I can use the Association’s power to find this relic... wait for my good news!"
She kissed Shard on the side of his face again, then grabbed the coat from the rack and rushed out of the room.
Shard followed her, catching up with Luviya in the downstairs entrance hall:
"Don’t run around on the road, be careful on the way."
"I know, Shard, you may not understand the significance this relic holds for the diviners."
Her smile, generated from excitent, was particularly bright:
"Even if it’s just a clue, the Association is willing to exchange anything except the Impermanence Card for it. Detective, Knight, you’ve really brought great news this ti. Fortune’s Pedestal belongs to that Ancient God... Be ready at ho tonight, waiting for
after a bath."
She bit her lip, her gaze carrying a hint of charm:
"Tonight I will reward you, but this isn’t repaynt, it’s sothing you deserve. We’ve locked our young sir with love, just wait... I need to head to the Association."
And with that, another kiss.
Shard was a bit stunned, not because of the kiss, but because of what Luviya just said:
"Lock of Affection?"
Sister Delphine had said sothing similar not long ago.
"It’s just a taphor, don’t take it so seriously. I’m not like Dorothy, skilled with words. But instead of saying you’ve locked us, it’s more like we’ve locked you with various ans. For instance, on that night, I locked you with a vow."
The purple-eyed girl waved goodbye with a smile:
"I really need to go to the Association, Shard. See you tonight."
"Alright, see you tonight. Be careful on the road."
He opened the door to let Luviya out and waved goodbye.
After Luviya had walked away, Shard closed the door. Turning around, he noticed Mia had unknowingly co over and was crouching on the stairs looking at him.
Shard gazed into Mia’s eyes, touched his chest, and stood in the entrance hall without imdiately going back upstairs.
[What are you contemplating? Your fidelity and guilt concerning love? Or perhaps, the reason you’ve co to this world that you just obtained?]
"She" asked gently:
[That elderly lady’s story is indeed heartwarming. This might just be love.]
"Lock of Affection, Lock of Love..."
His eyes rested on Mia, yet the cat clearly felt Shard was not looking at him.
