Chapter 1612: Chapter 1612: Shard’s Sigh
Princess Angelina seed quite agitated; even though Miss Galina couldn’t see her face, she could read her emotions from her movents.
Tifa imdiately followed into the room and closed the door. Seeing that the two on the sofa hadn’t moved, she coughed on behalf of her mistress.
Shard heard the sound and wanted to sit up but was unable to move because he was being held by Princess Angelina.
So the witch shook her head and said:
“Next ti, Angelina, at least rember to lock the door. If it hadn’t been
who pushed the door just now, tomorrow’s gossip would have made the front page headlines.”
Upon hearing Miss Galina’s voice, Princess Angelina finally let go of Shard. She supported herself on the sofa attempting to sit up, but as she rose, her red hair dangled down covering Shard’s face, while her blushing eyes remained fixed on him.
After sitting up straight, she gathered her loose long hair, biting her lip, her face flushing, and turned to look at her aunt. But Miss Galina knew her blush was definitely not out of shyness.
“I…”
As Shard finally managed to stand up, wanting to say sothing, the witch who knew Shard and Princess Angelina well waved her hand:
“No need to explain, let
guess—once you entered the room, Angelina hugged you and then pinned you onto the sofa.”
While the details were slightly off, it was generally correct.
“Shard, see, the girls of the House of Cavendish always know what they want and are willing to take action to get it. In this respect, Iluna is also goal-oriented, but under the constraints of traditional morality, her initiative is a bit lacking… You’ve been targeted for assassination twice today.”
The Duchess teasingly laughed again, Shard wiped his lips and glanced at the Little Princess’s profile. Though aware what had happened was wrong, since it had occurred, he wouldn’t deny it.
“I’ll explain to Lecia. But did the assassins coordinate to act today? If I’d known, I’d rather have spent the day in the Green Lake.”
“I originally wanted to apologize for possibly implicating you this afternoon, and invited you here, not expecting things to unfold like this… Looks like I’ll have to find another opportunity to apologize next ti.”
Seeing Shard stand up, Miss Galina reminded him again:
“You go out first, let Angelina calm down, her emotions are quite agitated tonight, that kind of stirring spiritual power… Oh, Anlos has arrived, have a word with him.”
“Has the Director also co? That makes sense, given a mber of the Royal Family was threatened. Alright, I’ll head over now.”
Before leaving, he didn’t forget to bid goodbye to Princess Angelina, to which the Little Princess softly responded. Once the door closed, Miss Galina queried the young princess:
“Angelina, how was the knight’s flavor?”
Golden eyes carried a smile and subtle emotions.
“Quite good…”
Princess Angelina replied with her head lowered, then softly explained:
“During the Ring-riding Championship, mother said I could interact more with Shard before marriage.”
“Tsk tsk, royalty, huh… Your father’s team has already co to fetch you, get ready to leave. Oh, don’t forget to think ahead on how to explain to Lecia. I’m not referring to you kissing her, but him being implicated in the assassination attempt. Lecia won’t think it’s all fine just because Shard is unhard. She might not have comnted under normal circumstances, but she recently assigned Shard so tasks he shouldn’t have accepted, so she’s quite guilty about him now.”
She said with a smile, then signaled Tifa to reopen the door. Princess Angelina nodded lightly and gazed up at her beautiful aunt’s upright back.
[This sweet taste, this surging emotion, and… I want to win it all.]
“Yes, I want to win it all.”
She silently contemplated in her heart, then looked around confused, not understanding who had voiced her innermost thoughts. She wanted to try again, but the voice had already vanished.
(Mia running…)
Early on Friday morning, upon hearing about last night’s “gossip” from colleagues at the Prophet’s Society, Luviya appeared at No. 6, Saint Delan Square before eight.
She climbed the stairs with the notion she might run into other girls here, but found Shard alone, seated at the dining table, focused on the newspaper, while Mia, hearing footsteps, lifted her head to glance at her, owing before continuing her al.
“Why do you look so disappointed?”
Shard leaned from behind the newspaper, his purple eyes looking out, as the girl dropped her handbag onto the sofa and entered the dining room:
“I thought Galina Cavendish would have stayed here last night to comfort you.”
Seeing that it was really just Shard there, she teasingly remarked, with a good mood, patting Mia’s back, eliciting a few more disgruntled ows from the cat.
“She indeed stayed here Wednesday night, but last night she stayed at Yordle Palace; she’s been really busy lately… Have you had breakfast? There are so eggs in the pan, if not enough I can heat a few slices of bread.”
“I’ve eaten.”
Luviya said, looking Shard up and down:
“What happened last night? I woke up to hear from the association that the Duchess publicly took you to a banquet, and you ended up being attacked while alone with Princess Angelina.”
She laughed:
“If it weren’t for the huge news of the assassination attempt on the Princess during such a sensitive ti, your scandal would probably be today’s headline.”
“Actually, I encountered sothing yesterday afternoon as well… As expected, I’m still not as important as the Cavendishes.”
He put down the newspaper in his hand, because the incident happened last night, so the morning papers didn’t have ti to publish the news. However, all sorts of rumors were already circulating, and Shard believed the King would find a way to suppress it.
“Stop teasing , Luviya. The two assassins last night claid to be Grey Gloves, but I’m sure they’re not.”
“MI6 already has the results of the investigation? So quick this ti?”
“Of course not, it was ntioned in the letter Margaret gave .”
He pointed at the already-opened letter on the dining table:
“Inside, there’s a credential formally certifying my identity as a ‘Grey Glove’ agent, to facilitate operations in the Green Lake Region.
Additionally, she told
that the elders of the Furen Brothers have all passed away, so in the Furen Brothers’ Edwards line, only the two of them are left. Margaret also ntioned in the end that the Grey Gloves found out soone wants to impersonate them to create sensational incidents in Tobesk City during the Green Lake negotiations, to provoke tension between the two countries.”
“Who is it?”
“The Grey Glove is also investigating, there are currently eight suspects.”
“So basically everyone’s a suspect?”
Luviya shook her head and said, but she wasn’t very interested in the matter. Kingdoms and regis are insignificant in the face of the dangers the world confronts, it’s the major prophecy of the Whispering Verses and Shard that truly occupy her attention:
“Be careful when you’re acting in Green Lake, I do perceive so signs of an impending storm recently. Who would have thought, saving the Pantanal Swamp would create such a situation.”
“If the Evil Creatures of Pantanal swallowed the swamp, I think the situation between Draleon and Carsonrick wouldn’t improve either. In my view, the conflicts and disputes between Draleon and Carsonrick, and their attempts to deflect dostic issues onto foreign nations, have long been apparent. Pantanal was rely the trigger, if not there, so other place would have sparked a dispute.”
He said casually, pinching up so cat food that had fallen onto the table and flicking it to the cat that had just finished eating, though the feline sniffed disdainfully at it and instead fixated on the bacon on Shard’s plate.
“This is not for you.”
Shard warned, picking up his cutlery to deal with his breakfast.
But speaking of which, he was also quite curious about what would cause disputes between Draleon and Carsonrick in those [Bygone Era: Sixth Era]. He was more curious about the role Luviya, in her quest to restart everything, played in the Kingdom and politics, and how far the ambitious Lecia and Margaret had co.
“Seeing you’re alright, I can rest easy, though these ordinary individuals couldn’t possibly pose a threat to you, I couldn’t help but worry when I heard about it.”
She said as she prepared to leave, as the Prophet’s Society’s working hours were approaching. Shard didn’t dare tell Luviya about being shot in the chest last night, and as he escorted her downstairs, he ntioned before she opened the door:
“Last night… I kissed Angelina.”
The purple-eyed girl asked in confusion:
“Really? Why are you telling
this? Shouldn’t you be telling Lecia Cavendish, to have her weigh in on things between you and her sister? Besides, didn’t you say long ago that the Little Princess had a special interest in you?”
“I just felt the need to tell you this, just as I’ve shared with you matters between
and the Witches.”
Shard said awkwardly, and Luviya shook her head, reaching out to adjust Shard’s collar:
“I won’t interfere with you. Go do what you wish to do, and lead
to witness the grand chapters of the Whispering until the very end. Shard, I believe in you.”
At that mont, Luviya with long hair and Luviya with short hair seed to beco one. She stood on tiptoe, kissed Shard’s cheek, then waved him goodbye and stepped out into the light outside the door.
Shard covered the side of his face kissed by the purple-eyed girl, sighed deeply, and turned to head upstairs, as expected finding Mia waiting on a higher step of the stairs for him.
[How odd, you feel guilty, but more than that, you are worried?]
“I don’t understand what happened in the annihilated history that implants in Luviya’s subconscious the conviction that the Whispering Verses are what’s truly important.”
[Oh, so that’s what you’re pondering. “Desire” has indeed seen you correctly.]
“She” gently remarked, as Shard shook his head and walked towards the sowhat anxious cat.
