Chapter 1329: Chapter 1329: Saturday’s eting

Although the black light appeared suddenly, the doctor reacted even faster. His right hand suddenly swelled into the shape of a pitch-black giant tree, directly striking the black light into particles of light.

“Oh!”

Shard suddenly sat up on the sofa, causing Mia, who was sneakily up to sothing, to jump off his stomach imdiately.

“What was that just now?”

“It wanted to mark you, so that when you encounter its true form, it would imdiately recognize who you are. Don’t worry, such a small trick is useless in front of .”

The doctor also straightened up from the chair behind his desk and then yawned:

“It’s really not a good idea to sleep during the day, but this short journey was still quite useful.”

He glanced at the clock on the corner of the desk:

“Only slept for ten minutes, I’m afraid that mory won’t be able to be deciphered a second ti by us.”

“It’s okay, the clues we have now are already sufficient. Once I’m done exploring the haunted manor, I’ll start to bring out the demonic entity. Ston Osenfort’s commission and Haila Osenfort’s commission are both very interesting, they will beco the best bait.”

After having lunch with Mia and the doctor at noon, the afternoon group eting went on as usual. Last week, both Dorothy and Priest Augustus had things to do, but this week everyone was present.

Before the eting began, the doctor also asked Shard about Luviya:

“Annette said before leaving that she’ll be back from this trip in about a month. It’s already the fifteenth day of the Sparse Star Month, will she return this month? If not, an application still needs to be submitted to the Academy.”

“There are so matters in Randall Valley that will likely delay her return until next month.”

“The duration of this trip is really quite long.”

The doctor muttered a sentence, not asking further, but Dorothy, who was holding little Mia, glanced at Shard.

The recent period in Tobesk has been quite calm, but Priest Augustus did share so amusing incidents he encountered in the church. The Old Cleric t a middle-aged man coming to confess, from whose words he learned that the man dreams of his deceased wife every night and has indescribable interactions with her in the dream.

The man believed this to be a sin, and thus ca to the church to confess. The priest, who beca sowhat interested, conducted an investigation during his spare ti, and eventually discovered that it was not just daydreams but indeed the spirit of his wife was truly present.

“I wanted to send away that spirit, but the middle-aged man cried and begged

not to do so. He was willing to shorten his lifespan rather than give up this wonderful experience.”

The priest shook his head and said with so lant.

“So what happened in the end?”

Shard curiously asked.

“Of course, the spirit was sent away, and the man’s mory was erased. Oh, Detective, I have seen much more tragic things than this. No matter how pitiful he might be, we can’t break the order between humans and spirits. What’s ant to leave shouldn’t stay; those who don’t understand this often cause more calamity.”

The Old Cleric said, as Shard pondered.

During the eting, Shard also ntioned his solo eting with Miss Danester on Wednesday, which involved the Librarian having him master the arcane technique ‘Dream of the Moon.’

The first attempt at learning ‘Dream of the Moon’ failed, so Shard wanted to seek so experience from others. Besides Shard, everyone had experienced failures in learning arcane techniques before, sotis due to ritual issues, sotis due to a mismatch in the technique’s affinity with themselves, and more often because the requirents of the arcane technique were too high and certain personal attributes hadn’t t those requirents yet.

Since this arcane technique is associated with Silvermoon, the doctor believed it couldn’t be a mismatch in affinity. The ritual was provided by Miss Danester, and the details of the ritual wouldn’t be problematic. Therefore, the doctor’s view was that Shard hadn’t entered the dream correctly, and regarding how to enter the dream, Bill Schneider was the true expert— he specializes in hypnosis therapy, and his treatnt is charged by the hour.

In any case, the doctor gave Shard so tea leaves, suggesting Shard drink them next ti before learning the arcane technique; it might help.

The eting ended at four in the afternoon; due to Miss Galina’s invitation, Shard didn’t need to discuss with Dorothy about where to have dinner tonight. The Golden-haired Girl went ho to change clothes first and agreed to et Shard at his house by half-past five, so Shard left with Priest Augustus, claiming he was heading to the Dawn Chapel to pray with the priest.

But in reality, he handed the priest a list in the carriage:

“Priest, could you help prepare these things for ? It would be best if you could hand them to

by tomorrow or the day after.”

The priest glanced at the list and curiously asked Shard:

“What are you dealing with? Is the Interstice of Life and Death in Midshire Fort about to open again?”

There were not only Holy Water but also a large quantity of ‘blessed silver crosses’ listed. Shard planned to place those silver crosses on the third floor of the Wilder Opera House to protect Miss Benanis and Miss Lathis.

“Also blessed silver bullets? Are you planning to hunt the Vampire Kind?”

From Shard’s terrifyingly long list, the Old Cleric had already seen the clues:

“Silver powder, an angel pendant and small statue storing Angel Power, and they cannot be stone items. Alchemical items ‘Holy Light Bomb’, ‘Death Withered Finger’ with a range instant death effect, ‘Undying Slash’ enchanted rune stone specifically against Immortal Nature, special glasses that can directly peep the Undead position through walls…”

The old cleric put Shard’s list aside, folded his hands together on his lap, and looked at him intently:

“Tell , what exactly are you planning to do?”

“Well…”

Considering Priest Augustus wasn’t likely afraid of demons, and Shard indeed needed his help, he decided to be truthful:

“I’ll tell you, but you must not tell anyone else.”

“Of course.”

“In Randall Valley, I discovered a demon. Yes, an Evil Spirit Demon of the Third Era.”

“Hmm?”

If not in the carriage compartnt, the old cleric seed almost ready to leap up:

“A demon?”

“Rest assured, I already have a way to deal with it. Do you still rember my longsword? It’s the best weapon against demons. But before the showdown with the demon, I need to explore a haunted manor, where reportedly, the people residing were exterminated by the demon three years ago. I don’t want to alert the demon prematurely, letting it know I’m capable of opposing it, so I need to use these tools and items to cleanse the manor.”

Shard said in one breath, then added:

“Certainly, so items on the list are also to protect Luviya and the friends I made in Randall Valley. You understand, it’s a demon after all. Though I’m not afraid, I need to consider others.”

Priest Augustus fell into deep thought, Shard didn’t interrupt, instead looked at the street scenery outside the window, with only the bustling street and the sound of the carriage’s rumble in the air.

“Do you require

to go to Randall Valley City?”

The cleric suddenly asked, startling Shard who imdiately shook his head:

“No need, I can handle it myself.”

Dr. Schneider had already planned to help Shard in Randall Valley City, if Priest Augustus also went, plus Luviya who was already in Randall Valley, it would an four out of five group mbers were in that Southern Nation city.

Shard could hardly imagine what might happen in that city.

“All right, I’ll prepare these materials and alchemical tools from the list as soon as possible. Besides, I’ve recently learned to craft more peculiar magic potions; you can take them along too.”

“Just report the total price to

later. If my cash isn’t sufficient, can I use gemstones to offset?”

“If you don’t have cash, just owe it first. Can you run faster than No. 6, Saint Delan Square’s long legs?”

The old cleric wore an expression like Shard was treating him as an outsider.

The carriage first took the cleric back to Dawn Chapel. With so ti to spare, Shard took Mia along to the church for worship, and donated so money, hoping to increase his luck facing the demon.

When he returned ho, Dorothy hadn’t arrived yet, but Tifa was already waiting with two maids. Since every Saturday, Miss Galina’s maids ca to No. 6, Saint Delan Square, for cleaning, the black-haired head maid actually possessed the keys to Saint Delan Square. Yet she didn’t enter but waited in the carriage. Only when Shard appeared did she accompany him into the house.

“What is Miss Galina looking for

tonight?”

Shard curiously asked Tifa, but the maid was even more curious:

“Does she always have sothing to say to you? She rely wants to have dinner with you as you haven’t been to the manor for a week.”

This remark made Shard feel guilty:

“All right, I’ll make sure to visit the manor often when I have ti… I’ve been quite busy lately, but probably will be more at leisure co spring.”

The maid only smiled.

Shortly after Dorothy arrived too, everyone took a carriage together to the manor outside the city. Though the banquet was ready, with just three attendees, the grand long table in the dining room was still laden with dishes and food.

Tifa directed the manor’s maids to constantly bring up new courses. In the candlelight, Shard, Dorothy, and Miss Galina enjoyed the feast together. Of course, Mia was very satisfied with the evening’s dinner, especially with the food specially prepared for it at the manor.

When dinner ended, the outside sky was completely dark. The witch enthusiastically invited Shard and Dorothy to the manor’s rooftop for stargazing, possessing a set of stargazing instrunts more expensive and professional than Luviya’s. The three of them viewed the stars together on the rooftop, then made their way to the study, conversing by the fireplace.

Perhaps due to overeating, or the comfort of the environnt. Holding Mia, Shard sat in a soft rocking chair, listening to Miss Galina and Dorothy discuss the latest chapters of the “Hamilton Detective Stories”, unknowingly slipping into slumber.
