"I said the person I like is Zhou Yuwen. Did you get that?"
Li Qiang let out a strange whimper from his bed. It was a sound difficult to describe in words, like the noise a dog makes when its paw is accidentally stepped on, and then it hides in a corner, whining. It was odd.
So when this sound ca from Li Qiang's mouth, Chang Hao and Lu Yuhang looked up at Li Qiang's bed.
"Qiang, what's wrong?" Chang Hao asked, curious.
Li Qiang buried himself under the covers and didn't respond.
Chang Hao tilted his head, puzzled, but when Li Qiang didn't reply, he didn't press further. He had problems to deal with, such as how Zheng Yanyan ignored him.
Unlike Li Qiang, though, Chang Hao was upset because he felt it was his fault. If he hadn't hesitated and had stepped forward to take the bla, maybe Zheng Yanyan wouldn't be treating him this way now.
"Yanyan, are you back at the dorm?" Chang Hao couldn't help but ask again.
"Yeah." Zheng Yanyan finally had so ti and responded coolly to Chang Hao.
Chang Hao breathed a sigh of relief. "You finally replied. I thought you were going to keep ignoring ."
"Why would I ignore you?"
"Honestly, I was really going to step up earlier, but I didn't expect Zhou to get there before ," Chang Hao explained.
"This has nothing to do with you."
"Co on, Yanyan, what's important to you is important to
too." Chang Hao tried to show his loyalty, but Zheng Yanyan didn't respond.
"?" Chang Hao sent a question mark.
"It's late. I'm going to bed now," Zheng Yanyan ssaged.
"Oh, okay."
For so reason, Chang Hao felt that Zheng Yanyan was unusually cold today. Was it just his imagination? Probably not. Maybe it was because so much had happened today, and she was still shaken.
In hindsight, he really should have stepped up earlier. Damn it, Zhou got the chance to play the hero.
"Hey, Zhou, what's the school planning to do about you guys?"
"What else? We're getting written up."
Since there was still ti, Zhou Yuwen planned to quickly finish writing the 2,000-word self-reflection essay. But once he spread the paper, he found it hard to write. Damn it, forget it. He'd buy one from the school's part-ti group for twenty yuan.
So Zhou Yuwen opened the part-ti group chat and made a quick request, and soon enough, soone took the order. After explaining the task details, Zhou Yuwen returned to writing his novel. Though he had only been writing for less than a month, the book was doing well. It was estimated that he could make at least thirty to forty thousand yuan in the first month after release.
For an ordinary college student, that was a considerable inco.
But for Zhou Yuwen, it wasn't nearly enough.
Originally, Zhou Yuwen planned to make enough money in the first two months after his rebirth to buy a small Audi. But now, he had changed his mind—he wanted to buy a house instead.
When he first started college, Zhou Yuwen had thought it would be great to relive his university days, goofing around with his roommates for four years. But after living with them for a month, he realized that wouldn't happen.
He was no longer an eighteen-year-old kid, and there was always going to be a gap between him and his roommates.
For instance, Chang Hao and Li Qiang would smoke indiscriminately without considering the occasion.
After military training, Li Qiang returned to the dorm and imdiately removed his shoes, filling the room with the stench of old fish and prompting Chang Hao to curse him.
Then there were issues with the bathroom, like so people not flushing after using it.
These were all minor annoyances—things Zhou Yuwen wouldn't have noticed in his previous life during college. But strangely enough, they beca issues for him now.
Maybe he had just beco more particular.
But in any case, Zhou Yuwen decided that if he had the ans to live better, he should. So he started thinking about ways to make quick money, enough to afford a house.
Stocks ca to mind.
2013 was a good ti for that. The Shanghai Composite Index would skyrocket in 2015, surpassing 6,000 points. By 2013, the market was already showing signs of a bull run.
For example, Zhangqu Technology had just gone public the previous year. It started as an e-book company, with an initial stock price of 6.3 yuan. By 2013, it had risen to 77 yuan in just a year.
Zhou Yuwen searched for Zhangqu Technology on his computer. The current price was 30 yuan, and if his predictions were correct, it would rise to 70 yuan within the next week, more than doubling.
But Zhou Yuwen only had about 50,000 yuan to work with, which would only net him 100,000 yuan—not nearly enough.
Leveraging it was the only way to make a lot of money quickly.
Zhou Yuwen had 50,000 yuan now, but he also had a contract for his business, which brought in 50,000 yuan a month. He could use that as collateral to borrow 200,000 yuan.
Then he could leverage that 250,000 yuan tenfold and go all-in on Zhangqu Technology.
That would be 2.5 million yuan; he could make another 2.5 million within a week.
Zhou Yuwen sketched out his plan in a notebook, thinking through the numbers while looking at the stock charts on his computer.
"Hey, Zhou, I'm talking to you! What are you doing?"
Chang Hao had been calling Zhou Yuwen for a while, and when Zhou didn't respond, Chang Hao raised his voice. Finally, Zhou Yuwen noticed him and said, "I already told you, they're just going to write us up."
"But you took so much ti off, aren't you already passing the training?"
"I don't know about that."
Zhou Yuwen closed his laptop and headed to the bathroom.
Chang Hao asked a few more questions about how Zheng Yanyan was doing and whether the situation was serious. In the end, he thanked Zhou Yuwen.
"Zhou, I really owe you for this."
"When the training is over, I'll take Yanyan out for a al, and we'll invite Su Qing too."
"I'll pass. You guys go ahead." After everything that happened, Zhou Yuwen realized they were from different age groups and decided it was better not to hang out together.
"Co on, it'll be fun if we all go. Or we could have another get-together with both dorms. Hey, Qiang, you coming?"
Chang Hao tried to include Li Qiang, but Li Qiang was still buried under his covers, not saying a word.
Chang Hao was confused.
Over in Lu Lin's dorm, after making her feelings clear to Li Qiang, she hadn't heard from him in a while. She wondered if she had been too harsh, or if it might negatively impact Zhou Yuwen.
But then she reminded herself that everything had started because Zhou Yuwen had told Li Qiang about her borrowing money. Zhou Yuwen was just reaping what he had sown.
After so hesitation, Lu Lin sent Zhou Yuwen a screenshot of her conversation with Li Qiang.
The screenshot mostly showed the part where she said she had soone she liked, and when Li Qiang asked who, she replied with "Zhou Yuwen."
After sending the screenshot, Lu Lin added: "We're even now."
Zhou Yuwen, who had just finished work, picked up his phone and saw the ssage. He also saw the part where Li Qiang kept saying he knew she needed money and was willing to give her however much she needed.
Just as Lu Lin had said, this all started because of him.
"Hmm," Zhou Yuwen replied.
Lu Lin hadn't expected such a bland response from Zhou Yuwen. After thinking it over, she sent him another ssage.
"I know why you told Li Qiang about
borrowing money."
"But it doesn't matter. My offer still stands—lend
2,000 yuan, and I'll be your girlfriend. It won't interfere with your normal life."
The ssage went out, but it was like tossing a stone into the sea.
Zhou Yuwen didn't reply.
Tonight, Lu Lin also found herself feeling uneasy.
Too many people couldn't sleep that night.
Li Qiang cried into his pillow for a long ti.
Lu Lin felt restless, frequently checking her phone to see if Zhou Yuwen had replied.
anwhile, neither Chang Hao nor Zheng Yanyan could sleep.
Chang Hao was thinking about Zheng Yanyan.
But Zheng Yanyan was thinking about Zhou Yuwen.
She was a proud girl. She had already kissed Zhou Yuwen, so she hoped he would reach out to her. She couldn't believe that anyone could resist her charm.
But the truth was, Zhou Yuwen didn't ssage her at all that night.
For Zhou Yuwen, the night had been incredibly complicated. After his rebirth, he had hoped to live a better life, but today had been full of chaos. Even sothing as simple as bringing a burger had beco a big deal.
And then there was Zheng Yanyan's kiss.
And Lu Lin's confession.
It was all a ss. Zhou Yuwen hadn't even been thinking about Zheng Yanyan then, but she was lying in bed, checking her phone, only half-heartedly responding to Chang Hao's ssages while wondering why Zhou Yuwen hadn't reached out to her.
By eleven o'clock, Zheng Yanyan couldn't take it anymore.
"Fine, you win."
"I miss you…"
Unable to hold back, Zheng Yanyan ssaged Zhou Yuwen. After sending the ssage, she regretted it imdiately. She felt like she had lost, completely and utterly. She hadn't thought she missed Zhou Yuwen that much, but once she sent the ssage, she realized she really did miss him. She had never felt so uncertain because of a guy before.
Especially after sending the ssage, Zheng Yanyan beca even more restless. Why hadn't Zhou Yuwen replied yet?
She had already humbled herself this much.
Couldn't he at least respond?
The lights went out in the girls' dorm.
A faint light still glowed from Zheng Yanyan's bed.
She was waiting for Zhou Yuwen's reply.
But it never ca.
In the end, Zheng Yanyan gave up.
"Are you still up?"
Two hours earlier, Zheng Yanyan had told Chang Hao that she was tired and going to bed.
But after two hours, she couldn't help but reach out to Chang Hao again.
"Not yet. Yanyan, you're still up? What's wrong? Couldn't sleep?" Chang Hao replied instantly. He had been trying to figure out how to explain to Zheng Yanyan why he hadn't stepped up earlier, so he was surprised when she ssaged him first.
Chang Hao's quick reply surprised Zheng Yanyan: "Why did you respond so fast?"
Seeing this question, Chang Hao chuckled and hesitated before replying: "I was just thinking, I really should have stepped up sooner. If I had, it would've been
going with you to the administrative building."
Zheng Yanyan asked, "What's Zhou Yuwen doing?"
"Huh?"
"I need to talk to him. I sent him a ssage, but he didn't reply," Zheng Yanyan said vaguely.
Chang Hao glanced over at Zhou Yuwen's bed. "Oh, he's asleep."
"Asleep?" Zheng Yanyan asked.
"Yeah."
"Yanyan, did the teachers give you a hard ti when you went to the administrative building?" Chang Hao asked.
"No, I'm going to sleep now."
"Oh, okay."
