"When alone ??
Secretly checking your Weibo ??"
Under the clear, moonlit sky, the front of the auditorium was bustling with activity. One group after another of first-year students chatted and laughed as they lined up to enter.
This freshman evening party had each class preparing their own performances, so anticipation was high.
Chang Hao was outside calling the roll. A total of forty classmates were participating in the group performance. At the beginning of the sester, everyone had contributed fifty yuan as class fees, part of which went towards renting costus for the event.
So students mumbled their dissatisfaction, saying it would have been better if Zhou Yuwen were the class representative.
"Yeah, at least Zhou Yuwen wouldn't waste our money!"
Li Qiang silently agreed with this sentint.
The Landscape Engineering class lined up outside, with Li Qiang at the back, chatting with Jiang Chao and holding a bouquet of fresh flowers ant for Lu Lin.
Soone nearby asked, "The flowers look beautiful. Who are they for?"
"Heh, that's a secret!"
Li Qiang stood outside the line, which irked Chang Hao. "Li Qiang, can you move in a bit?"
Already not on good terms with Chang Hao, Li Qiang felt even more annoyed, sensing Chang Hao was wielding his minor authority.
In contrast to the lively front of the auditorium, the office behind it was notably quiet.
The eting room was silent, with only the moon casting a patch of light on the windowsill.
Lu Lin's phone ringtone, Xu Song's *Illusory Sound*, echoed, showing an incoming call from Zheng Yanyan. Yet, clearly, Lu Lin wasn't in a position to answer.
The moonlight illuminated half of her figure as Zhou Yuwen sat in the shadows, gazing at her ponytail. He tilted his head back, eyes closing. Although Lu Lin was a bit unskilled, she brought him a unique sensation.
This feeling was indescribable.
Zhou Yuwen told Lu Lin, "You don't need to do this."
"I do."
"I want to do it here for you," Lu Lin said stubbornly, like a playful little girl. She asked, "Yanyan wouldn't do this for you, would she?"
Zhou Yuwen, looking at Lu Lin kneeling before him, nodded slightly. He gently stroked her cheek and said, "You’re the best girl I've ever had."
It was odd how such simple praise could make Lu Lin feel as though her heart was sweeter than honey.
In the moonlight, her JK outfit looked especially charming, like a kitten trying to please its owner, her skirt-clad 'tail' swishing playfully.
...
But they were, after all, in a public setting.
The phone kept ringing.
"Nowadays, listening to songs alone can still make one sad ??"
The sound abruptly stopped; it seed Zheng Yanyan had given up calling.
This was the Student Council's office, yet Zhou Yuwen and Lu Lin were doing this, and Lu Lin appeared to feel no guilt about it.
Zhou Yuwen, being a bit more mature, was internally anxious, but at the sa ti, he relished Lu Lin's affection. However, at the rate she was going, the event would be over before they were finished.
"That's enough for now," Zhou Yuwen said, pulling Lu Lin up. "Let's save this for later!"
...
His lips brushed over her neck, trailing kisses to her shoulder.
...
The faint moonlight cast the shadow of Zhou Yuwen and Lu Lin onto the wall.
...
The phone rang again.
It was Zhou Yuwen's.
He reached out for it and saw it was Zheng Yanyan calling.
Lu Lin pouted slightly, "Don't answer it."
"Be good," he said, not heeding her request and answering the call.
"Hey, hubby, are you here yet?"
"Not yet. I ran into so friends and got caught up talking," Zhou Yuwen replied.
"What kind of friends? Guys or girls?" Zheng Yanyan teased.
"Just regular friends, don't overthink it."
"Everyone in your class is already inside. I haven’t seen you," Zheng Yanyan noted.
"I’ll be there shortly," Zhou Yuwen reassured her.
He stayed composed, but Lu Lin disliked that while with her, Zhou Yuwen still addressed Yanyan affectionately as 'hubby' and 'wife.' Yes, she was jealous. She didn't want to pretend anymore; she envied Zheng Yanyan.
Why? Why was Zheng Yanyan Zhou Yuwen’s girlfriend? Why did he treat her so tenderly?
So, Lu Lin sped up her pace, deliberately making noise.
"Huh? Hubby, did I just hear a girl's voice?" Zheng Yanyan asked curiously.
"Did you? I’m outside the auditorium. It’s probably just girls passing by," Zhou Yuwen said.
"Ugh, so annoying! The performance is about to start, and I still can’t find Linlin."
"Why don’t you just call her?"
"I did, but she’s not answering. Who knows which guy she’s off ssing around with!"
"That’s not a nice way to talk about your friend."
"Hehe, I’m just kidding. But hubby, let
tell you, your wife is the best woman in the world!" Zheng Yanyan giggled.
Though he hadn’t put the phone on speaker, Lu Lin could hear it.
She didn’t say anything.
"Anyway, I’ll head in now," Zhou Yuwen said, hanging up before Zheng Yanyan could respond.
"Hey," Zheng Yanyan started but realized he had already disconnected. She looked at her phone, a bit annoyed, wondering what he was up to.
"Yanyan," called Tao Tian, who had been overseeing everything.
"Hmm? What’s up, Sister Tian?" Yanyan asked curiously.
Tao Tian had returned to school at four o'clock, taken a quick shower, and changed into a loose T-shirt and very short denim shorts before arriving at the auditorium to oversee the event.
As a senior student, she couldn’t act as adorably as the freshn. To everyone, she was a cool, unapproachable older sister. She asked Yanyan if Lu Lin had shown up.
"No, I’ve called her but she hasn’t answered."
"Oh. Has Zhou Yuwen arrived?" Tao Tian’s voice betrayed a hint of nerves. She had sent several ssages to Zhou Yuwen that day, but he hadn’t replied. Strangely, at that mont, she found herself wanting to see him.
Yanyan, still holding her phone, suddenly grew suspicious. "Why are you asking?"
"No reason, just wondering if your boyfriend would co support you for such an important performance," Tao Tian said, not realizing how wary Yanyan was.
Yanyan didn’t bother replying.
Feeling a bit awkward, Tao Tian said, "Try calling Lu Lin again. If you can’t reach her, we’ll have to use a substitute."
"Alright, I’ll check." Yanyan’s tone was notably colder.
After ending the call, Zhou Yuwen held Lu Lin’s slender waist, amused by her earlier antics. "You little troublemaker, you know this could expose us, right?"
"I want to expose us. Why not?"
Zhou Yuwen chuckled at her jealous expression. He hugged her close, "Think carefully. If it ever cos out, I might have to choose."
Lu Lin asked, "If she finds out about us, do you think she’d stay with you?"
"And you?"
"I would. If she doesn’t mind, why should I?" Lu Lin’s gaze was resolute.
Zhou Yuwen smiled, pulling her into his arms.
...
His phone rang again.
"Hey, Zhou," ca Li Qiang’s voice.
A bit surprised, Zhou Yuwen answered and asked what was up.
"Hey, Zhou, hope I’m not disturbing you?"
"Disturbing what?"
"Chang Hao told
to call you. The whole class is here, and he wants to know where you are."
"That guy’s just full of himself, acting like a real class representative. He made us all pay 20 yuan for costu rental. If I’d known, we should’ve kept you as class rep."
Li Qiang prattled on.
Zhou Yuwen had been ready to spend more ti with Lu Lin, but now with call after call, it was becoming botherso.
Frankly, Lu Lin was exhausted, especially wearing a skirt.
Zhou Yuwen told Li Qiang, "I’m at the auditorium, with friends."
"With Zheng Yanyan, right?" Li Qiang smirked, apparently speaking to soone, "Hey, Chang Hao, Zhou’s probably backstage with Yanyan. Should I call him over?"
Chang Hao, at a distance, frowned and approached, "Why are you shouting?"
"I didn’t want you to miss it. He’s with Yanyan. Do you need to say anything to him?" Li Qiang asked.
Chang Hao said, "Nothing to say. Just tell him to co quickly. Even if he’s not performing, he should be here."
"Zhou, Chang Hao wants you to co out soon."
Lu Lin, truly worn out, shifted her position and grabbed two chairs, leaning back on them, her legs in sheer black stockings showing from beneath her skirt.
"I’d love to co out, but I can’t right now!" Zhou Yuwen said.
"Chang Hao, Zhou says he can’t co out."
"Ask him when he can."
"Soon, almost done."
At that mont, Lu Lin’s phone started ringing.
Li Qiang paused, hearing the familiar *Illusory Sound* ringtone, though it was quickly cut off.
"She hung up?" Yanyan muttered backstage.
"Zhou, was that Lu Lin’s phone?"
Zhou Yuwen decided to end the call abruptly.
Hearing the line go dead, Li Qiang was puzzled.
"What did he say?" Chang Hao asked.
"Not sure, but he’ll probably be here soon."
Li Qiang didn’t know what was happening between Zhou Yuwen and Lu Lin backstage, but for so reason, Zhou’s sudden end to the call left him baffled. He had wanted Zhou to let Lu Lin know he’d brought her flowers.
Zhou Yuwen hadn’t planned on hanging up but felt the mont called for it. He embraced Lu Lin, realizing she was taking her ti, making it seem endless.
...
Lu Lin grinned, satisfied, asking, "You never felt this way with Yanyan, did you?"
Zhou Yuwen rolled his eyes.
"Five minutes until the show starts. Has anyone found Lu Lin?" Tao Tian asked, checking her watch impatiently.
Yanyan remained silent, having done her best to buy Lu Lin ti. But it looked like they wouldn’t make it.
Just as Tao Tian was about to call for a substitute, Yanyan’s eyes lit up. "There she is!"
Tao Tian looked up and saw Lu Lin, fully dressed in her blue plaid JK skirt, arriving from the back. Her calves wrapped in black stockings, her face was flushed, though the dim backstage lighting hid it well.
"Where were you? I nearly broke my phone calling you!" Yanyan chided, pulling Lu Lin’s hand.
Lu Lin replied, "Went for a smoke. My phone was on silent."
"Took you nearly an hour for one cigarette? Impressive," Yanyan scoffed.
Seeing that Lu Lin had arrived in ti, Tao Tian said nothing further.
"Linlin, get ready. The show is about to start."
