In the quiet of the night, Zhou Yuwen couldn’t help but think about the good tis he had with Lu Lin. That night was indeed a happy one—his eighteen-year-old body had found release in that mont. Just thinking about it made him want to go back and find Lu Lin again.
He especially liked the feeling when they were lying together in bed, kissing, while his hand slowly slipped into her jeans.
These were things that even Zheng Yanyan wouldn’t let him do, but with Lu Lin, Zhou Yuwen could do whatever he wanted.
Now that he thought about it, he wanted more.
Of course, as a thirty-year-old man, Zhou Yuwen had more rationality beyond just physical desire. He and Lu Lin could only maintain this kind of relationship, much like how Zhou Yuwen would agree to date Zheng Yanyan but had never thought about having a relationship with Lu Lin. If Lu Lin hadn’t said what she did before, Zhou Yuwen probably wouldn’t have gone out with her the other day.
When they parted ways, Zhou Yuwen had pretended to give Lu Lin three thousand yuan. In reality, this wasn’t the right move, but apart from giving her money, Zhou Yuwen didn’t know how else to treat Lu Lin well. Their relationship wasn’t one for sweet words—those would only be false pleasantries.
What he didn’t expect was that Lu Lin didn’t take the money.
Later, when Lu Lin got back to her dorm, she sent a ssage to Zhou Yuwen.
“You’ve already given what you should have. I don’t owe you anything.”
It was clearly a ssage sent in frustration.
Zhou Yuwen didn’t reply.
He stayed in Hong Kong for four days in total, visiting a few specialized institutions to purchase the items he needed. He invested two million, leaving only a bit of pocket change, and then spent a day wandering around. Besides the luxury stores, there wasn’t much to see—Hong Kong’s downtown areas weren’t as beautiful as so cities in the mainland. So, Zhou Yuwen took a ferry to Macau to experience the local culture, and as luck would have it, he had a pretty good ti.
After two more days in Macau, Zhou Yuwen’s funds didn’t deplete—in fact, they increased quite a bit. He didn’t care much about this money, as it was mostly luck. He spent it all since it wouldn’t last anyway, and Macau’s goods were cheaper.
He bought a few pieces of clothing for himself, along with an IWC chanical watch—silver dial, brown leather strap. Wearing it with a striped shirt and a dark brown jacket, paired with light-colored work pants, he looked in the mirror at the shopping mall in Macau and thought to himself, *Man, I really do look good. Being young is great.*
The streets of Macau were filled with beautiful won—most of them with fantastic figures, wearing tight skirts and backless dresses. Zhou Yuwen, now dressed in his new outfit with freshly styled hair, looked much more mature.
As he strolled down the street, so girls approached him, asking, “Sir, do you need a guide?”
Seeing that the girl was quite pretty and knowing he had a lot to buy, Zhou Yuwen asked, “How much?”
“Fifteen hundred,” she replied.
Zhou Yuwen nodded and asked her to help carry his purchases. He began shopping extravagantly.
After all, the money he was spending was just lucky winnings from Macau. He had no intention of saving it. Besides buying luxury goods for himself, he called Zheng Yanyan and asked, “Do you need anything other than those CK briefs?”
“No, just bring
a pack of CK, oh, and my perfu is almost out,” she answered.
It was funny—she only asked for a pack of CK after he went all the way to Hong Kong, but it was understandable. Zheng Yanyan didn’t know how much money Zhou Yuwen had, and even if she did, they were just in a casual relationship. Asking for a few hundred yuan worth of goods was already pushing it.
There has to be boundaries between people.
When she asked for perfu, she sounded a bit embarrassed and quickly added, “Please buy
so perfu too.”
“I’ll pay you back when you get back.”
Whether Zhou Yuwen cared or not, she had to say it.
“Okay,” Zhou Yuwen replied.
After hanging up, he wandered through several stores before finally finding what Zheng Yanyan wanted. He couldn’t understand why she liked wearing that brand.
“It’s really comfortable,” the female guide he hired said with a smile.
Zhou Yuwen asked, “Do you wear it too?”
The guide blinked at him, “Want to see?”
Well, she was in this line of work—no way she’d be shy.
Zhou Yuwen bought two packs—not just for Zheng Yanyan, but for Lu Lin as well.
Money wasn’t important, but in matters like this, Zhou Yuwen believed in treating won equally.
Besides the underwear, he also bought two bottles of perfu.
As he shopped, he rembered that it was Su Qing who had pointed him towards the opportunity with virtual currency, though that fool was probably going to get scamd. Still, Zhou Yuwen felt she deserved so reward, so he bought her a bottle of perfu as well.
Among the four girls in the dorm, three had gifts. It wouldn’t look good not to get sothing for Shen Yu, but then again, there wasn’t really a reason to.
After thinking for a mont, Zhou Yuwen had the guide pick out so costics and clothes for girls, packed them all up, and decided to let Zheng Yanyan divide them among the dorm when she got back.
After returning to the hotel with his purchases, Zhou Yuwen took the guide for a walk along the beach. The girl, though young, clearly knew how to please a man. She leaned against Zhou Yuwen, resting her head on his shoulder, allowing his arm to brush against her chest—completely natural.
She slled fragrant from her perfu.
As they walked along the beach, the guide shared her life story: a gambling-addicted father, a runaway mother, a brother still in school, and a broken self.
She said she had co from Sichuan-Chongqing at sixteen, had worked various jobs, and had essentially just been wandering through life.
Stories like hers were nothing new to Zhou Yuwen in his past life. There’s no need to think girls like her are different from others. All won are the sa. Rather than pity others, it’s better to focus on yourself.
Since he was in Macau, Zhou Yuwen made sure to enjoy the sea breeze and the joy of shopping.
Oh, right, before the sun set, he even had the guide take a few photos of him by the beach. He really did look handso.
“Mmm, the pictures are great,” he comnted.
“Of course, how are you going to reward ?” The guide giggled, resting her head on his shoulder, sweetly teasing him.
She was wearing nothing but a tight, sleeveless dress. Her figure was really sothing, and she knew how to act coy, but unfortunately, Zhou Yuwen was the kind of guy who strictly maintained order.
No matter how much she flirted, Zhou Yuwen just smiled and said, “I’ll give you an extra hundred as a tip later.”
The girl pouted slightly, “What? Am I only worth a hundred to you?”
Zhou Yuwen chuckled, “Step aside, I need to post on my Monts.”
After posting on his Social dia Circle, Zhou Yuwen didn’t bother waiting for any likes or comnts and simply put his phone away. The girl beside him pouted, clearly trying to win so sympathy.
“I ca out with you all day, and you’re only giving
an extra hundred?” she complained, batting her eyes at him.
Zhou Yuwen chuckled and said nothing more.
Even as she pouted, the girl couldn’t do much and accepted her pay without further fuss. They had spent the entire day together, so she probably knew it was useless to flirt more with him. After all, Zhou Yuwen didn’t owe her anything beyond the agreed paynt.
After an entire day of shopping and sightseeing, Zhou Yuwen returned to his hotel room to rest. Lying in bed, he replayed monts from his day. His mind wandered back to Lu Lin, lingering on the way she looked when she was lying beside him. Though the day had been enjoyable, he felt a certain emptiness, realizing that only Lu Lin had the power to truly occupy his thoughts.
The next day, he booked his flight back to the mainland. Before leaving, he reviewed his purchases for the girls back in Jinling. He had bought each of them a small gift: so costics, perfu, and a few accessories.
He smiled, thinking to himself that it might please them—especially Zheng Yanyan, who would definitely brag about it to her friends.
As Zhou Yuwen packed up, he felt that the gifts he’d chosen might not be extravagant, but they would still be aningful. Knowing that Zheng Yanyan was likely to share these gifts with her friends and flaunt a bit, he hoped the items would make her happy.
Arriving back on the mainland, Zhou Yuwen made his way to campus and dropped the gifts off with Zheng Yanyan, who was visibly thrilled. She hugged him tightly, almost jumping with excitent, and imdiately began sharing the gifts with her dormmates. As he watched, Zhou Yuwen felt a hint of satisfaction, thinking that at least he’d made her day.
Later that evening, he found himself alone, once again reflecting on the events of the past few days, especially his brief escape in Macau and Hong Kong. He thought of his life goals and his current relationships, each seemingly balancing between indulgence and detachnt.
As the evening grew quiet, Zhou Yuwen found himself alone with his thoughts. mories of his days in Macau and Hong Kong lingered, especially the excitent of being in a different place, surrounded by luxury, beautiful won, and the freedom to do as he pleased. Yet, despite the extravagance and distractions, he couldn’t shake a lingering emptiness. Reflecting on his ti with Lu Lin, he realized there was sothing about her that felt real in a way the rest didn’t.
At that mont, his phone buzzed with a ssage—it was Su Qing. She asked how his trip went, ntioning casually that she’d been keeping up with the news on virtual currency and that she was eager to see how her investnts would go. Zhou Yuwen replied with a simple update, cautioning her again about the risks. He had warned her multiple tis about scams, but she seed confident in her choices.
Then Zheng Yanyan sent a ssage: "Thank you for the gifts! You're still the best to !" Her words were playful, and she added a couple of emojis, including a heart. Zhou Yuwen replied with a faint smile, glad she was pleased but still feeling the distance between what he truly felt and the casual interactions with those around him.
As he lay in bed, his mind drifted back to Lu Lin once more. He hadn’t received any ssages from her since he’d returned. This silence made him wonder about her feelings, and he found himself debating whether he should reach out first. In the end, he decided against it, turning off his phone and resigning himself to sleep, a mixture of satisfaction and restlessness filling his mind.
With each passing day, Zhou Yuwen realized his relationships were becoming a complex web—part nostalgia, part desire, and part longing for sothing real amid the luxury and indulgences he surrounded himself with.
The next few days passed quietly. Zhou Yuwen settled back into his routine, focusing on his studies and keeping a low profile, yet he couldn’t escape the feeling of distance from those around him.
On a Friday evening, after classes had ended, Zhou Yuwen’s phone buzzed. It was Lu Lin, finally reaching out with a simple ssage: “Are you back?”
Zhou Yuwen looked at her ssage for a mont before replying: “Yeah, I’ve been back a few days.”
Lu Lin responded with only a few words, “I see.”
After that, no other ssages followed. Zhou Yuwen stared at the screen, feeling a slight tug of frustration. He found himself typing and deleting, unsure of what to say. Finally, he settled on a ssage: “Got sothing for you.”
After a few seconds, she replied, “You didn’t need to.”
But Zhou Yuwen insisted, “I wanted to. et
tomorrow?”
There was a pause before her answer ca, “Okay.”
The next day, they t quietly, away from campus. Zhou Yuwen handed her a small bag with the gifts he’d picked out. She accepted it with a polite thanks, but there was a noticeable distance in her deanor. As she turned to leave, Zhou Yuwen couldn’t help but call out to her.
“Lu Lin,” he said softly, causing her to stop and look back.
“Yeah?” she replied, her voice steady but guarded.
For a mont, he hesitated, unsure of what he wanted to say. The words hung in his throat, unspoken. In the end, he simply said, “Take care.”
Lu Lin nodded, her expression unreadable, and with that, she walked away.
Watching her go, Zhou Yuwen felt a pang of regret mixed with relief. He couldn’t quite place what he was feeling, only that he was letting sothing slip away, perhaps intentionally. Turning back, he pocketed his hands and walked in the opposite direction, telling himself that sotis, distance was the best choice.
