Chapter 87: No Way!
After the phone call with Jamal, Tom and Harry were silent for a minute, each lost in their thought, and then their gaze t.
"Before we et with the family we have to co up with sothing," Harry said and Tom nodded.
"First let’s decide, should we call the family eting imdiately or should we see Dawn first since Jamal wants us to do it Dawn’s way? If we et Dawn first, then we can decide what to do from there. But if the family ets first, then whatever she plans might affect our plan," Tom pointed out.
"You have a point. Also a family eting might not be feasible right now since Bryan and Matt are out of the country shooting a movie. Unless we plan to have a virtual eting. Which isn’t a bad idea since that way everyone will be present including your Mom," Harry said, and Tom sighed deeply.
"Before we decide on that I first need to talk to Lucy," Tom said, massaging his temple.
He could imagine just how upset she was going to be, and as much as he hated it, he knew it was unavoidable.
"Maybe we can tell Lucy and Jade together?" Harry suggested since he didn’t want to have to tell his wife about it privately and he knew he couldn’t let her hear it first from the eting either.
"Sure. Since they’re together let’s talk to them both," Tom suggested as he picked up his phone and called Lucy.
Lucy picked up the phone on the second ring, "Are you guys done?" She asked the mont she received the call.
"Yeah. If Jade isn’t busy ask her to co along with you," he said, and Lucy frowned when she heard his grave tone.
"What’s wrong?" She asked, concerned.
"You’ll find out when you get here," Tom said, not wanting to give her any false assurance.
Lucy picked up on that, and it only made her even more worried since he didn’t sound reassuring in any way.
"I’ll be there shortly," she said before hanging up.
A couple of minutes later, Lucy and Jade walked into Tom’s office.
"What’s going on, babe? Is Jamal in trouble and in need my legal counsel?" Jade asked as she took her seat next to her husband.
"No. There’s sothing we need to talk to the family about and we figured you both hear it from us first," Harry explained, taking her hand in his and raising it to his lips in a manner that showed it was more of a reflex reaction than a planned one.
"Ace?" Lucy called softly as she stood by the edge of Tom’s desk.
Tom sighed deeply as he rose from his seat to face Lucy, who was staring at him with a worried expression as she waited to hear what he had to say.
"Jewel, this is going to be a little upsetting..."
"That’s putting it mildly," Harry muttered and Tom shot him a look.
"What’s going to be upsetting?" Jade asked, picking up on the mood in the office now.
She had wondered why Lucy had seed extra worried back in her office about the mood in Tom’s office, but now that she was there with them she could tell sothing was up.
"Trust
to handle this, and just listen to , okay?" He said, and she nodded.
"Okay. What’s going on?" Lucy asked, holding his gaze.
"Jamal is in Westend at the mont. He flew there from Husla. According to him a received a call from Genevieve saying she suddenly rembered him, so he went over to et with her," Tom said, and Lucy smiled.
"Aww. Dawn finally rembered him. That’s sweet," she said, wondering what was upsetting about that.
"What’s upsetting about that?" Jade asked in confusion.
"Jamal found out that Genevieve isn’t Dawn," Tom said, and Lucy’s smile faltered as it slowly transford into a confused frown.
"What do you an? We all know she has surgery so she doesn’t look the sa..."
"She didn’t have surgery. Ryan swapped Dawn with his daughter," Harry cut in, and Lucy’s jaw dropped, while Jade gasped out loud.
"No way! You’ve got to be kidding !" Jade said, looking from Tom to Harry to be sure they were joking or sothing.
"What do you an Ryan swapped Dawn with his daughter? If Genevieve isn’t Dawn, then where is she? And why would Genevieve claim to suddenly rember Jamal if she isn’t Dawn? This doesn’t make any sense," Lucy said, and Jade nodded in agreent.
"Exactly. It doesn’t. Wait! Don’t tell
Dawn is dead," Jade said and Lucy gasped as blood drained from her face and her eyes widened in shock.
"No no. She’s not dead," Tom rushed to assure her, placing both hands on her shoulders.
"Jamal found Dawn as well. Rember Abigail? The mute girl he told us about five years ago?" Tom asked, and Lucy nodded, relieved that Dawn wasn’t dead as she had feared.
"What has Abigail got to do with this story?" Jade asked Harry, wishing Tom could just get to the point.
"Abigail is Dawn," Harry explained.
"What?" Lucy and Jade asked in unison.
"Abigail? The mute girl Jamal had a one night stand with at the club?" Lucy asked, finding it hard to process it all.
"Yes," Tom said, and Lucy pressed two fingers to her temple.
"I thought Jamal said she was born mute? Dawn isn’t mute," Lucy pointed out.
"She beca mute due to trauma from the death of her mother and grandparents. Ryan told her she was born mute," Tom explained, and Lucy brushed past him and sat on his seat.
"I think I’m going to have a headache," Lucy murmured.
"In as much as I enjoy how you’re dropping the details gradually, I’d appreciate it more if you just went right down to it. What’s this you’re talking about? How did Jamal find out about this? Are you sure he isn’t mistaken?"Jade asked impatiently.
"He isn’t. Jamal is currently living with them pretending to be Genevieve’s driver. He spoke with Dawn today and she wants to see us. Lucy and ," Tom said, and Lucy pressed a hand to her lips as tears gathered in her eyes.
