Chapter 330: Ruthless Cassidy

Jax clenched his jaw. "You’re safe there," he said softly into the phone. "That place is soundproof and reinforced. No one can get in unless you open the door for them. You just need to close it. But if you don’t feel safe enough, you can go down the hallway. You’ll see a garage at the end of it. Your car is parked in there..."

"My car? You an my car has been here..."

"Focus, love," Jax cut her off in an urgent tone. "The garage opens to a different route from the main house. Take your car and leave. Or you can take mine. Keep your phone with you. I’ll handle the situation and co get you."

Mari’s voice wavered. "If you say it’s safe here, I’ll take your word for it and wait here for you. But I’ll hang up now. I feel too anxious to stay on the phone. I’ll call you if anything cos up."

Before Jax could point out that it was best to stay on the phone if she was feeling very anxious, she hung up the call.

Chad whipped toward Jax the mont he dropped his phone and focused on the road. "There was a bunker under the house? And didn’t think to tell ?!"

"Why should I tell you about a bunker under MY house? Considering all of this, I made a very good decision to keep it from you, don’t you think?" Jax asked coldly, annoyed that Chad even had the guts to question him at this point.

Before Chad could say anything else, Jax dialed another number on his phone and almost imdiately the call connected. "I have so intruders in my ho. Send your best n and take down every one of them," Jax ordered before hanging up.

Chad rubbed his forehead roughly. "You should have at least said sothing to let

know you had security asures in place!"

Jax’s jaw flexed hard. "Are you stupid? Did you think after losing Dad that way I was going to just sit back and not do anything?" he asked without taking his eyes off the road. "Didn’t I ask you to trust

several tis? Do you think I didn’t know you ca here because you were harassed during your stay in Varis? Did you think my relationship with Mari would distract

so much that I wouldn’t pay attention to anything else? Did it occur to you that I took you out to drink yesterday because I was giving you a chance to tell

about it, but what did you do? You went and hooked up with that damned girl, you bloody fool!"

Chad stared at him like the world had tilted. "How was I supposed to just blindly trust you? You didn’t tell

a thing."

"Maybe I would have if you weren’t gallivanting around the country in my na," Jax shot back. "You never listened, never paid attention, never cared about anything until it threatened you and then you suddenly rembered you have a family."

Chad flinched at that.

Jax didn’t notice. He didn’t care. All he cared about was getting to Mari in ti.

Silence filled the car for several seconds.

Then Chad whispered, voice cracking, "I’m sorry."

Jax finally turned his head, his eyes dark, not with anger anymore, but disappointnt so sharp it cut deeper.

"I don’t care for your apology. You better hope we get out of this ss unscathed," he said quietly. "And pray Mari never finds out about your involvent in this."

Chad’s throat tightened. "Jax—"

"Shut up," Jax said as he pressed his foot on the gas. The tires scread as the car shot forward, straight toward the war waiting at ho.

Jax kept imagining Mari alone and scared in the bunker as she watched dangerous n break move around the house. He felt sick.

His heart beat hard and loud in his chest. Each thump felt like a punch inside him.

Then his phone rang again. He picked it up expecting it to be Mari, but it wasn’t Mari.

It was an unfamiliar number. He frowned and answered, placing it on speaker. "Hello?"

A familiar calm, deep voice ca through. "It’s Cassidy."

"Alex?" he asked as a wave of relief flooded him.

"Yes. What is going on over there?" Alex asked. "Are you safe?"

Jax swallowed hard. "Alex... I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Mari is alone at ho right now. But I’m on my way to her. I had everything in place. I had security. I had a plan but everything just got ssed up. She’s safe in the bunker, but I’m on my way ho to her right now."

Alex sighed deeply and Jax could only imagine his disappointnt. "You don’t have to be sorry. I am also on my way to your house. I was alerted."

Jax blinked. "Alerted? By who?"

"That is not important now. You are certain Mari is in the underground house?"

"Yes, sir. She’s inside. The door is locked and she is watching everything going on from the monitor."

"Good," Alex said. His voice ward only a little. "You will go straight to her through the other entrance. Do not engage anyone else. I will handle everything in the house."

Jax opened his mouth to argue, then closed it. Alex’s tone left no room for it.

"Yes, sir."

"Where is Chad right now?" Alex asked with concern.

Jax’s jaw tightened. "He’s here with . He connived with them..."

"Yeah. I’m aware. Don’t worry about that. I’m sure he had his reasons and thought he was doing his best to protect you. Where is Venita?"

"She’s at her place," Jax answered. "She hasn’t moved."

"Are the n we placed on her still in position?"

"Yes," Jax said.

"Good. You don’t have to worry. Thanks to this move, everything is ending now. I’ll send more n to keep Venita safe, and I’ll send so n to guard the exit of the underground house just in case."

"You both should go to Mari," Alex repeated. "Stay with her, and I’ll take care of the rest. I’ve let this go on for long enough. I was hoping to end this amicably so I wouldn’t have to resort to bloodshed again, but I guess the only way to end this is to ruthlessly wipe them all out once and for all. I will make an example of them so no one ever cos after

again."

The call ended and Jax understood better why Alex had introduced himself as Cassidy at the beginning of the call. Alex was the decent human he wanted to be, but Cassidy was the ruthless monster his father and the cartel had made him into.

Jax glanced at Chad, and smirked when he noticed how pale his brother looked.

"He knew about the underground house? And the security? What does he an by wiping them out?" Chad whispered as Jax lowered the phone.

Jax didn’t respond. He didn’t see any reason to.
