Chapter 53: Chapter 53

By the ti they arrived in Deciville, it was already evening and he didn’t think they would be able to et up with the store’s owner.

"Why the fuck didn’t you tell ?" She snapped at him.

"I didn’t know either, okay? He sent

the weather forecast just now and let

know he would et

in the morning." He held up his phone to show her the ssage he had received barely a few minutes ago.

"Weather forecast?" She looked up into the sky suspiciously. "It’s calm."

A drop of rain landed on his arm and he showed it to her. "The calm before a raging storm. Typical of Deciville." He grabbed her hand and stuffed her into the car despite her protest.

"This eting..."

"WIll not happen when the storm starts. We need to get sowhere safe before we get stuck in the middle of nowhere." He frantically explained and floored the accelerator.

"Is this so sort of prank?" She growled. First, the car had broken down and they had to take it to a chanic, who took three hours to repair whatever damage there was, and now a storm was coming?

"If you think the weather can prank you then yes." He was having way too much fun ssing with her, she observed.

She would have thought he was finding excuses to delay her but by the ti they got to the closest hotel, the sky was roaring with thunder and the heaviest downpour she had ever witnessed had begun. The few ters between the parking lot and the hotel’s lobby was all it took for her to be soaked head to toe.

"Deciville is crazy!" She complained. She didn’t sign up for this.

"It’s aweso, actually. As long as you are used to the unpredictable weather changes." He didn’t seem to be having any trouble.

He sounded as though he had a grasp on the weather changes and would be prepared for it but his clothes were just as soaked as hers. She huffed and walked over to the reception, which just happened to be full of n and won soaked head to toe.

"I need to get back to Imperium for my son." She grumbled.

"Don’t worry. Our son will be fine. Besides, he has his aunt to take care of him." He assured her, but that made her more furious. Had he planned this out all along?

"This doesn’t seem great." She gritted her teeth from the cold. Were there still any available rooms? Just like she dreaded, the reception kept turning guests down for lack of rooms.

"I guess we get to sleep in your car, then. Malfunctioning AC is a plus." She snickered at him, just a second before she heard the manager propose that guests share rooms if they were up for it.

"Do you think we can share one?" He asked her, earning a glare. "I’d rather sleep in your car."

It was her turn soon, but the receptionist shook her head. "I’m sorry, miss, the only remaining rooms are presidential suites."

"Sweet! I’d like two of those." She opened her purse with freezing hands and took out her credit card. "I’m only paying for mine. The gentleman over there will pay for his own room." She motioned to Damon who then smiled mysteriously.

"Okay." The receptionist rang her card, only for it to be declined. "I’m sorry, it seems like your card has insufficient balance."

"Excuse ?" She found it ridiculous. "That’s absurd."

"Sounds like your parents froze your account, princess." A buff man pushed her aside. "I’d like the room she just chose, thank you."

"You’re not getting my room." She took out another card. "Try this."

Before the card could be taken, the man pushed her aside while scanning her from head to toe, then let his eyes linger on her chest. Her blouse was soaked through from the rain and she felt naked being stared at lecherously. "See, I know it’s hard to think your parents could do this to you. But if you co with , I’ll let you stay in my room as my little pet."

She kneed him in the groin and as soon as security ca over, she raised her hands in surrender. "Self-defense. I just want a room." It was not worth all the drama. If she had a choice, she wouldn’t stand this kind of humiliation.

She returned with a black card in hand and handed it over. "I don’t know what the hell is happening to my other card but this will definitely work."

The receptionist took it and when it was accepted, she asked for her ID. "Avery Vaillant? Miss, you’re already booked."

"What? I’ve never been here before. How could I be..." Damon. She looked back to catch him laughing his ass off at the spectacle that had just happened.

"I could watch that all night. But co on, we need to get to our room."

Her mouth gaped in disbelief. "Why didn’t you tell ?"

"You didn’t ask." He shrugged.

"Miss, if you don’t need the new room, I’ll go ahead and process a refund." The receprionist called out to her as she was holding up the queue.

"Of course. Sorry," She apologized to the couple behind her and instantly changed her mind. "Actually, how many suites did you say were left?"

"Three."

That explained the clamor.

"Charge the three to my card and let anyone stay in them." She pointed at the whining man she had just kneed. "Not him."

Damon was speechless. "All that money just for revenge?"

She rolled her eyes. If there wasn’t anyone waiting in line, she would have booked them and left them empty the whole night as long as the scumbag didn’t get a place to spend the night.

"You ssed with the wrong person." A woman whispered to the scumbag.

"Who the fuck is she? The president’s mistress? I’ll tattoo my na on her face the next ti I see her." He gritted his teeth as he returned in line.

"You would rather ss with the president’s mistress." The woman lowered her voice. "She’s Avery Vaillant. She enjoys revenging against n. And the man who just left with her? Damon D’aboville. I heard he’s a mafia boss. I would run if I were you."

It was too late. By the ti he made it to the parking lot , he was grabbed by the collar and pushed down onto the flooding pavent. He looked up in horror.

"You! How did you...I didn’t see you..."

Damon crushed his hand as he tried to crawl away. "What was that you said about my woman?"

___

"Damon?" Avery was puzzled when she realized she was alone in the elevator lobby. Damon had told her their floor number and stuffed a room key card into her hand, then he had asked for a minute to make a call and had disappeared like a phantom. What call needed such secrecy?

A woman in a purple suit, probably a concierge, approached her. "Good evening, ma’am, I’ll show you to your room."

"Great." She followed her into the elevator, too exhauted to think about Damon.

They got on the floor and she was puzzled to see only two rooms on the entire floor.

"Which one is mine?" She asked.

"This." The concierge swiped the keycard through the door of the room on the left, and pushed it open for her. "Please help yourself, ma’am. Your husband already ordered your dinner and it will be brought to you in a heartbeat."

"He is not my husband." She explained and realized why the woman was refering to as as ma’am. "Don’t tell

we are spending the night in the sa room."

"Well, I don’t think Mr. D’aboville booked a separate room for you. However, don’t worry. The suite is big enough and..."

"I’m worried, okay? No way in hell am I spending the night next to that man."

The woman was helpless. "I understand your frustration, Mrs. D’aboville, butit’s too late to make arrangent for another room."

It finally made sense why he didn’t say a word about the room, and why he made a dash for the hills before he could face her wrath. He knew what he had done all along.

"Mrs..."

"Miss Vaillant." She corrected the concierge, who was convinced for so reason that she was denying her marriage to Damon because she was upset with him. "Look, years ago it would have been flattering if soone mistook

for his wife but I only find it creepy now. Please let him know he will be dead as soon as he cos here."

"Is that so?" His voice chuckled behind her.

She crossed her arms. "Damon, do you get off on annoying ?" She was certain of the answer even before he said a word. Nothing entertained him more than hearing her complain about him.

"Not exactly. I wouldn’t want to face your wrath." He entered the suite and what she thought was a small space they had to share was an entire penthouse with two separate bedrooms.

"Is this an apartnt?" She gasped at how huge it was. It finally made sense that there was only one room on one side of the entire floor. The living area was fully furnished with everything she could possibly need, and the concierge was right. They could live in this suite for a week without crossing paths as long as their schedules didn’t overlap.

A ferrari logo dangled in her line of sight and when she looked up, he was ready to drop the car keys in her hand. "Didn’t you say you were going to sleep in my car to avoid spending the night in my room?"
