Chapter 343: She’s My Mother In-law

"Oh, I see," Ivan said. "Please extend my regards and deepest apologies to him when he returns."

"We will," Sarah nodded, then added. "Let’s get you sothing. What would you like to take?"

"Thanks, but no, thanks. I think I should be going now," Ivan politely turned down the offer. It was good enough that they allowed him in and also listened to him. Besides, he wasn’t in the mood for any food.

As he stood to leave, Sarah reached out and touched his arm. "We don’t bla you, Ivan. We know this isn’t easy for you either."

Ivan managed a small, sad smile. "Thank you, Sarah. I just want to make things right."

With that, he left the Rosse residence.

After Ivan had left, David turned to Sarah,

"You can’t just be touching other n so recklessly. Do you take

for a furniture that has no feelings?" He complained.

"Aren’t you too old to be jealous?" Sarah sneered. "You should be more concerned about how to get your son to get back with his wife and not throw so childish tantrums," Sarah equally threw back.

"Of course I’m concerned about them but that doesn’t an I’ll allow mine to act frivolously and get snatched away right before my eyes. After all you’re still very beautiful and can still cause a flutter in people’s hearts," David argued.

"No one is snatching

away, old man. I’m all yours," Sarah replied gently, toning down a little, obviously as a result of her husband’s praise.

"I need to be reassured," David said with what looked like a pout.

"I already said, I’m all yours. What kind of reassurance do you need?" Sarah asked, feigning ignorance.

"Quit pretending and do the needful. It’s been long you gave

a treat, woman. Don’t you think you’re beginning to fail in your duties as a wife?" David accused shalessly.

"I know I’ve been doing my best," Sarah said.

"How co I never knew. Maybe you can use this opportunity to remind ." David’s eyes darkened and his voice sounded more low as he drew close to his wife.

"Stop playing around, anyone might co in," Sarah warned as she pushed David away. But because there was not much force in her hand, David didn’t even bulge.

"I’m with my legally wedded wife. What’s wrong with that?" he asked and the next minute, he captured her mouth in a kiss and only released her after he had had his fill.

"This is more like it," he smiled in satisfaction. Now, what’s going on with Lauren and Steffan? Any news yet?"

Sarah was speechless and didn’t know what to make of such an unpredictable husband.

"Things are beginning to take shape but not as fast as I’d love it," Sarah managed to say after so seconds.

"What’s the progress?" David asked, his eyes still glued to his wife’s red lips.

"We’ve been able to ascertain that Steffan’s heart still belongs to Lauren from the report I got from Candace and my maid Cassidy," Sarah announced and her eyes twinkled when she rembered what the two won had told about about the drama Lauren pulled at The Masters Place so days back.

She wondered how she was able to put up such a blockbuster performance, but she was as worried as the other two won about the identity of the young man Lauren used and how safe Lauren was with him. Will she be able to pull through without being scalded.

"How do you an?" David asked, clueless.

"Won’s talk, just know that she was able to stir up Steffan’s jealousy to the point that your poor boy couldn’t enjoy his al and had to leave halfway, barely paying attention to that nauseating girl he brought along."

"That’s interesting. So Steffan has not been trapped by Dolly’s sches?"

"Not a chance of that, don’t you know your son again? If no one could for thirty years until Lauren ca along, Dolly is a re joke as far as I’m concerned, but one can never tell with these things and we still need to be watchful, especially when it cos to that girl."

"Don’t think too much," David comforted. "With what you’re saying, hopefully, everything will return to normal soon."

"I pray so too," Sarah said. "While we’re at it I need to give Lauren a call. It’s been long I heard from that child."

"Go ahead," her husband said and went to pour so water for her.

She dialed Lauren’s number and even while the phone was yet to ring, a doting smile was already etched on her face in anticipation of the voice she was about to hear.

"Hello, mom," Lauren’s loving voice sounded from the other end.

"Lauren my child, how have you been?"

"Fine, mom, and you?" Lauren answered as she motioned to the person seated in front of her to keep quiet.

"I’ve not been fine," Sarah said pitifully and ignored her husband who was practically rolling his eyes at her by the side.

Lauren was scared and her jovial tone was imdiately laced with concern as she asked.

"What happened, mom? Are you sick? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"

"I don’t know how I’m feeling. Can you co over? I’m the only one at ho and that old man is not taking

serious at all," she whined.

Lauren caught on to sothing. "Is dad there with you, mom?"

Sarah took so ti before responding, "He is, but you know how he behaves. He never takes

seriously. Even in this state he still bullied

so minutes back. Can you believe that?"

"Lauren, if you’re busy, don’t waste your ti running over. She is absolutely fine," David exposed, risking his wife’s anger to shout across the room.

"Do you believe I will never talk to you for the rest of the month if you’re the reason my daughter did not co to see ?" Sarah threatened, completely forgetting that she wasn’t feeling fine and was supposed to speak gently.

"Please, Lauren, drop whatever you are doing and hurry over. Your mother is terribly sick and might be in need of love transfusion," David said seriously and didn’t wait to see what his wife would do as he hurried off to his room.

"Alright, mom, I’ll see you when I get off work in the evening," Lauren appeased. That’s the only way to settle the quarrel between the two older couples.

"Really, my child? Will you co and see ?"

"I’ve given you my word so I’ll co," Lauren said.

"I’m so happy. You can go ok wit your work and don’t close too late. It’s not safe for you," Sarah advised.

"Yes, mom. I’ll listen to you. Bye."

As she ended the call, she shook her head and turned to face the man staring at her affectionately.

"Was that your mother?"

Lauren have a wry smile and had a far away look on her face as she said,

"Yes, she is my mother-in-law."

"Your what?" George asked. "I thought you said the wedding was not finalized. Did you already have a marriage certificate before the main wedding?"

Lauren frowned. "Why do I feel like you’re jealous?"
