Chapter 28: Their Love Story
Rika helped
dress into a new outfit after I had a bath. "Why am I wearing another outfit instead of my pajamas?" I asked her. It’s already nearing 10 pm, and I’m going to school early tomorrow to take care of the requirents Miss Samantha told
to do.
"But it’s the miss’s study session with the young master."
Oh, I totally forgot about that. "Let’s forget about that and help
change into my pajamas."
"But young miss—"
"I’m already sleepy, and it doesn’t matter even if I don’t attend that study session." More like Night will love it if I don’t attend. "Please?" Even though reluctant, Rika helped
change into my pajamas and even brewed chamomile tea that would help
sleep well. She also gave
massages on my back, arms, and legs before leaving the room to let
sleep. It’s nice that I have Rika by my side, even though I doubted her before.
Even with my lights off, I can’t stop staring at the ceiling. I really need to go to sleep now, but my mind doesn’t feel sleepy. "Why is it?" I even drank that chamomile tea to have a good night’s sleep, yet I’m still up.
Lady Tomoe’s beautiful face keeps flashing inside my head. Also, that kiss they did in the garden. It won’t leave my mind at all. It makes
realize how much I’m getting in between them. I tried to seduce Night before, unaware he already had a girlfriend. And now I’m forcing him to marry
for my own safety.
Doesn’t this make
the antagonist in their love story? "I don’t want to beco the antagonist." I got up from the bed. This won’t do. I can’t fall asleep. It’s like I’ve forgotten to do sothing— Oh right! I left my pencil case on the table in the garden!
I sneakily went outside my room and tiptoed my way to the garden. It’s awfully quiet today. Wait, do I still have to mind that they might be killing soone again for today? "Wait a minute...." I suddenly rembered that girl killed by those n that night I sneaked into Night’s room.
That girl said she was here to help
escape, but they killed her. Does that an she lied to ? And if I ca with her, I might be dead by now?
Thinking about it gives
shivers. "I should just get my pencil case and return to my room." Before I opened the door to the garden, I wore the slippers on the floor since it’ll be harmful to dirty my foot. The hallway floors look shining, so I can’t dirty them with my foot later. The cool night breeze greeted
as soon as I opened the door, making
feel shivers. It’s nearing December now, so the weather’s getting colder.
I walked towards the table near the bridge on top of the pond. This garden looks promising even at night with all the lights turn on. It’s automatic. They turn on when there are people around. How nice, right? When I was about to go back inside, I heard the sliding door opening again, making
rush towards the back of the bushes near the bridge. Who in the world?
"Yoru."
Hearing that gentle and soft voice made
peek at those people that got out. It’s Tomoe and Night. Are they going on a midnight date? "Stop following
around." I heard Night say. Is that the proper way to treat your girlfriend? He’s still as jerk as ever.
"B-But Yoru. You know this marriage isn’t temporary. Why are you ignoring ?" I can only hear lady Tomoe’s voice because of how soft Night talked to her. Well, not that part where he told her to stop following him. But wait, does Tomoe knows about our contract marriage? "You’ve promised
before." She said.
Night’s talking, but I couldn’t hear it well, so I tried to move closer to them. "It’s grandfather’s orders." I heard him say.
"If that’s what this is, why do you keep avoiding ?" I could feel a hint of sadness in lady Tomoe’s voice after she said that. "It’s been 10 years, and you still treat
like I’m nothing to you. You know you love ." Whoa, whoa, whoa. I don’t think I should hear this, but they’re both in the way. ’I can’t go back inside.’
"You said you’ll make
happy."
I tried to cover my ears, but it didn’t suffice. I wonder why I hate hearing lady Tomoe talk about their love in front of . It’s not that I still like Night, but I would rather not know anything about them either. That way, I can still act oblivious when I’m with lady Tomoe.
"Young master." I saw how Kenji went out of the sliding door and called Night. "The oyabun had called for the two of you." He said, which made the two go back inside. Finally, I can go back inside too.
"Does eavesdropping a hobby of yours, milady?" I flinched after hearing Kenji say that. "Co on out. I already know you’re there."
I clicked my tongue. "I didn’t eavesdrop. I’m here first, but the two of them started talking about their relationship and—" I stopped explaining after seeing that sa annoying smug look on Kenji’s face. "Would you stop looking at
like that?"
"Looking at you like what?"
I felt my face heating up. "Like you can read my mind." I flounced back to the hallway, and Kenji followed . "For your information, I went out to get back my pencil case." He didn’t say anything, but I could feel that he was making fun of , which made
look back at him. "Stop making fun of ."
"I did not, young lady." My forehead creased. His expression doesn’t say the sa as what he said. "I only find it fascinating that the lady doesn’t look hurt even after learning lady Tomoe and the young master’s relationship."
I frowned. "Why do you keep pushing the idea that I still have feelings for your young master?"
"It’s because you still do."
"No. I do not."
"Yes, you do."
It’s useless talking like this to Kenji, so I rushed back into my room while feeling annoyed by him. He keeps pushing that to
even if I keep saying that I don’t like Night anymore. I really don’t. Please, soone, believe .
When I got inside my room, I placed my pencil case on the table and slamd my body on the bed. Now I think I can go to sleep after all that stress from trying not to hear what lady Tomoe is saying to Night.
The next day, I told grandpa I would go to the mall to buy swimwear for the club activities. Although he told
he’d make Kenji fetch
so, I rejected it. Why would Kenji get
swimwear when I can get one on my own?
"I’ll tell you where we buy our swimwear," Ericka said as she excitedly clung to my arm. When Kaoru saw this, he was about to pull her away, but I stopped him and mouthed that it was fine. "Will your friend co with us too?"
"Y-Yeah, we must ride in our car to the mall." That’s the only condition grandpa said. Let Kenji drive us to the mall and accompany us. "Would that be okay with you?"
Ericka smiled. "Of course! It’s better than commuting." She pulled
to the parking lot while Kaoru followed us. I have an hour to buy swimwear, and I need to return ho before it reaches 4 pm since it’ll be my first-day learning bridal lessons.
"I think we should also buy so necessities. You already know what we need as a swimr, right?" I nodded as I put on a seatbelt. Kaoru sat on the shotgun seat, and Kenji started the car.
"There’s a rumor that your father’s company went bankrupt," Ericka stated. That’s not even a rumor. It’s the truth. "But you’re still as rich as ever. I envy you." She said those words with no malicious intent. She’s just like that.
Even though people keep saying that Ericka’s way out of my league because of my wealthy parents, she always talked to
when we were in middle school. That’s why most people admire her because she’s so friendly she doesn’t care about the other person’s family circumstances. She only looks at the person herself/himself.
"But I gotta say, your driver is so handso," Ericka whispered. That’s when I saw Kenji smirking in the rear mirror. He probably heard that. "Kaoru Takahashi is also a cutie. I envy how you’re surrounded by good-looking n." She added, making Kenji’s smile grow wider. It’s annoying.
When we arrived at the mall, Kenji said he’d park the car first, and we should go. "Let’s go to that shop." Ericka was too excited as she pulled , which caused us to bump into soone.
"I’m sorry—"
"Ellie?"
It’s a man wearing a casual polo shirt and black pants, and when I looked up at his face, that familiar blonde hair reminded
of soone. "It’s ." He removed his sunglasses with a smile painted on his face. Upon realizing who he was, my eyes widened.
