Chapter 22: Lacking
"Are you sure you’ll go alone?" Andy asked. Why is he even asking? He wouldn’t go with
either way. "Aren’t you scared of Miss Valencia?"
It’s not like I have a choice. Ace had already left before I could even call her because of her part-ti job, and Andy was going to attend the student council eting. "I’ll be fine. It’s not like Miss Valencia will eat ." That’s right, I’ve been on the brink of death for the past few days. Nothing will scare
more than that.
"Kaoru’s coming with
too, so don’t worry." Andy nodded as he went out of the classroom. I took my bag and told Kaoru to just follow
if he wanted to. ’I’m not forcing him on anything.’
On our way to the faculty room, Kaoru kept looking around like a lost sheep and kept making things harder because he was distracting . "Could you please just stay here? I’ll co to you after I’m done." I told him as I entered the faculty room after. "Please excuse my intrusion."
"Oh? If it isn’t Noelle." Professor Choi greeted
while he sipped on his coffee. "It’s good to see you healthy and doing great." He said, which caused
to smile. "If you’re waiting for Ms. Valencia, she’s in the art room. You should go there."
I thanked professor Choi as I went out of the room. "I’ll be going to the art room, so—" I couldn’t finish what I was saying when I noticed that Kaoru’s nowhere to be found. "Where did that kid go?" I slapped my forehead due to stress piling up. I told him to wait for .
I sighed. ’I’ll just try and find him later after I’m done talking to Miss Valencia.’ I thought.
I walked into the hallway, the sun was already setting outside, and I could hear the loud voices of the soccer club mbers. They sure are working hard. If only I had joined a club, I would probably be doing sothing else right now. Although I’m not smart, I can’t afford to focus on sports right now.
When I arrived in front of the art room, I knocked three tis, and the door opened. "Oh? Did you co here for Ms. Valencia?" Ryzen opened the door. Right, I rember him being a mber of the art club.
"Uhm." I pointed at my cheek. "You still got paint on your cheek," I said, which caused him to blush, and he imdiately tried to wipe the paint, but it only spread on his face.
Ryzen let out a laugh due to embarrassnt. "Here, co in. Ms. Valencia’s in the back room." He said, and I thanked him for that. I went to the back room and saw Miss Valencia wearing her glasses while working on her desk.
"Excuse ," I said to get her attention.
"Sit down." She said without looking at . I sat on the chair in front of her desk, and she removed her glasses as she looked at . It made
gulp. "Let
get straight to the point. Your grades aren’t doing well, and with this, you might repeat a year."
Wow, that’s really straightforward of her. She didn’t even prepare . Didn’t she know that it’s pretty heavy for
to take? I don’t even know how to react or what to say. I’m aware that I’m not smart, and my grades are the lowest of the low. "I-I’ll study well from now on." But I can’t repeat a year. It’s my promise to myself and mommy that I’ll survive.
"As you should, but you still need so extracurricular activities to boost your grades." Miss Valencia said as she opened her drawer and brought out so papers. "You didn’t join any club since your first year, so that might be hard to accomplish now that you’re already in your third year."
If I only joined the swimming club, I won’t need to hear this.
"Also, your grandfather already issued a chance for you to pass this sester. Even if you skipped too many days and also the examination period." Miss Valencia said. Grandfather? Does she an Night’s grandfather, Kenta Yamaguchi?
"It’s called special examination. It’ll be in the last week of November so study the lessons you skipped. If you pass, you’ll pass the sester; the only problem is the lack of extracurricular activities."
Extracurricular activities? "Uhm, if I may ask, what’s the fastest way to get more of that extracurricular activities?" Do I have to volunteer for so charity work or sothing?
"Be a club mber and win a championship or high-rank competition."
WHAT?
"B-But that’s impossible since I didn’t join any—"
We heard a knock on the door, which cut
off from what I was saying. "Miss, we already finished the task for today," Ryzen said while smiling at .
Miss Valencia stood up from her seat. "That’s all I want to discuss. I don’t want to make things harder for you, but you must go through all of this to be able to graduate." She smiled. It’s a genuine smile. I never thought I’ll accept such a genuine and gentle smile from this one terror teacher.
"I’ll help you if you don’t understand so lessons. Just ask ." There’s no way I can do that!
I left the room, and now I’m filled up with stress. My mommy always tutors
whenever I don’t understand sothing. Ace also does it most of the ti when we’re at school. But they’re both nowhere to be found. I an, Ace is busy with her life, and I can’t keep disturbing her.
Mommy’s with daddy in so faraway place I don’t know. "What am I going to do?"
"Milady!" My eyes widened as I looked left to right to ensure no one was around. "I thought you went ho without—" I quickly covered Kaoru’s mouth while glaring at him.
"I thought I already told you not to call
’milady’ at school." Kaoru blinked many tis. "Will you listen to , or should I do sothing bad to you first to make you listen well?" He shook his head, and I removed my hand from his mouth.
’That sounded so terrible. Am I being infected with the evilness Night has?’
I sighed. "Co on, let’s go ho."
This day is too tiring, and my foot is killing . I should go to Dr. Tricia’s office later again to let her check up on my foot. "Do you want
to carry your bag for you?" I shook my head as an answer. I’m tired and don’t want to talk too much anymore.
I still don’t know how I’ll be able to study all the past lessons on my own, and I only got a week left. I’ve never been good at studying and can’t get things unless they’re constantly repeated in my head.
"Are you good at studying?" I glanced at Kaoru, but I just saw him tilting his head. "I guess not."
It was a peaceful walk back to the parking lot. Most students were already gone, and the others were busy with their club activities. I’ve never had leisure ti like this when I used to stalk Night all the ti.
I was only staring at the window the whole car ride and didn’t even notice that we had already arrived back in the mansion.
"Young miss!" Rika greeted
with tears in her eyes. Why? I’ve only been gone for hours, not years. There’s nothing to cry about. "I’m glad you’re ho safe." She said, causing too much drama with the other servants who look like they share the sa sentint as Rika.
What’s wrong with these people?
"I think I need to talk to Dr. Tricia," I said as I walked into the house. "My foot’s aching after walking too much."
Rika panicked. "That’s not good!" She rushed to call everyone in the mansion. And now I’m being carried on my way to the infirmary. Again, what is wrong with these people?! Kaoru’s carrying
in his arms like it’s the most normal thing for him to do. Even if I told him I didn’t want to be carried, he still did it, deliberately ignoring what I said.
"Hello there, lady Noelle." Dr. Tricia giggled upon witnessing my situation. "It’s like you have an army behind your back there, young lady." She said, teasing . She’s enjoying this, huh?
"Okay, settle everyone. Let
talk to the lady alone." That’s how those people left Dr. Tricia and
inside the infirmary.
Finally, I can breathe again. "So, what’s wrong this ti?"
I sighed. "A lot. But first things first, my foot is aching." I said as I removed my socks. The wound is healing well, but my foot often aches whenever I walk too much.
"Let
see." Dr. Tricia stared at my foot and smiled. "It’s getting there. You just need to apply the ointnt I recomnded before going to sleep." Now that reminds ...
"Uhm, I’m planning to join a club at school."
Dr. Tricia was already preparing the ointnt when she looked at . "In the middle of the year? You’re already in your third year, aren’t you?"
"Yes, but my teacher told
that my grades aren’t enough for
to be able to graduate." I sighed. "That’s why I think I would join the track and field or the swimming team." If they would still accept , that is.
"I suggest the swimming team." She said. "Are you good at swimming?"
A smile ford on my face. "The best."
