Chapter 143: Fight Back
I don’t understand why this is happening to
again.
"Did she disappear for almost a week because of her engagent? That’s unreasonable."
"I can’t believe it. Doesn’t her father have lots of debts now?"
"Yeah! She should be shouldering all those debts since her parents are dead. I wonder what benefits will Night get from that. Accepting that shaless girl as his fiancée."
I tried my best to ignore the female students’ rants that they really want
to hear. ’Who the heck told everyone that I’m engaged to Night?’ I sighed as I reached the door to my classroom, and as soon as I opened it, I felt everyone’s eyes on . ’Is this... am I going to get bullied by my classmates again?’
"Noelle! Oh my god! What happened to you?" I felt Carla’s hands on my arms making
turn to her. "It’s been a week and a half." She said as she pulled
into a hug. ’W-What’s with this reaction?’
"I’m sorry, I got into an accident," I said. That’s only half a lie though.
"We already know that. Kaoru gave an excuse letter for you." Maris said, pulling Carla away from . "What’s with the rumor though? You’re engaged to Night Fuentes? It’s hilarious." Maris said as if dissing the one who made the rumor.
I scratched the back of my head. ’After being abducted, now I have to deal with stupid rumors.’ I sighed. "Y-Yeah, I’m surprised too." My head quickly turned in the direction of the door after it opened again, hoping that it was Ace, but there I saw Ryzen making my forehead crease.
"Noelle." He called for my na, but I just stared at him and didn’t respond.
When he was about to approach , Andy who had just arrived imdiately pulled him away as if frantic. "Stay away from Ellie." He said as he pushed Ryzen and rushed towards . "Ellie!" Andy pulled
in a hug which made
blink thousands of tis. ’Is there sothing wrong with him?’
"What the hell happened to you?" He whispered into my ear. ’Did Kaoru tell them anything?’
"I’ll explain later," I muttered back, just enough for him to hear.
After that, my classmates started asking
one by one and they’re telling
that they are all concerned about . ’They’re not asking because they don’t want to gossip right? I still doubt it.’
I can’t believe even though they really didn’t do anything before that makes it look like I was bullied; they don’t pay attention to
either. It’s like, all of a sudden, everyone’s starting to feel concerned about , and I don’t know what to feel about that.
"What really happened?"
Ace and Andy were focusing on
the mont we got on the rooftop with Kaoru staying near us. "Explain it, and how is Ryzen connected to this?"
I took a deep breath as I glanced at Kaoru, but he was already eating his bento. I guess he didn’t receive an order to keep everything that happened to
confidentially. ’Since Ace and Andy are already aware of my situation, I don’t need to lie to them.’
I started talking, and the more I talk, the more their expression turned grim with everything I say. Even though they’re not reacting well, I know I should tell them everything, except for the things regarding Night’s past. Those things are confidential, and it concerns Night so I can’t say it without his permission, and even if I got his permission, I won’t tell those things to anyone else.
"So... that’s what happened. What do you guys think?"
"What do we think?" I nodded to Andy. "That was insane!"
Andy stood up from the floor and went to . "That was so crazy I don’t even know where to start asking questions! Everything about it feels like it ca out of a mafia drama! How the hell did that guy pretended to be a friend for a long ti just to—"
"Andrei."
Andy imdiately stopped talking after Ace called his na with a serious tone. "What else happened after that?" Ace asked while Andy sat beside
quietly.
"Night and Kenji arrived. That’s how we escaped using their submarine."
"What the hell? They own a submarine?" Andy said in a low voice, being careful that it wouldn’t piss Ace off.
Ace didn’t say anything after that. She continued eating her food, but the awkward silence because of her reaction remained. Andy kept nudging
to say sothing, but I don’t want to anger Ace anymore if she is indeed angry.
"Ace?" I still called for her na because Andy wouldn’t stop bugging .
"What?"
I gulped. "Are you angry?"
"Not really."
The ice-cold atmosphere beca chillier because of her short response. "I don’t have the right to feel angry as I couldn’t do anything to help you." She said making Andy and I look at each other. "It must have been hell waiting in that place, with that person."
"Could it be... does Candace feel bad because she couldn’t help Ellie?" Andy started teasing Ace even though he knows that he’ll get scolded if this ended on a bad note.
"Of course, I feel bad. If I keep talking, I might even start cursing at Ryzen. I can’t believe he did sothing like that. What an ass—"
I covered Ace’s mouth before she could even start cussing. "I don’t know what went inside Ryzen’s head when he did that, but I want to believe that he didn’t do it because he wanted
to get hurt."
"Then why would that jerk do it?" Andy’s not controlling his words either, huh?
"I... I don’t know."
Ryzen said that I’ll be eting his friend that ti, which ans he’s friends with Aziel. "Maybe I need to talk things out with Ryzen."
"What do you an talk things out? That jerk should apologize for what he did and never approach you again."
I sighed after hearing Andy say that. "Ryzen’s our friend too. I know that what he did was unforgivable, but what if he did it because he didn’t have a choice?" I’m only making excuses for Andy to stop hating on Ryzen, but I don’t really know and I don’t understand either.
’Why am I making excuses?’
"Let
talk to him later."
"I won’t let you talk to him alone, milady," Kaoru said the mont he heard that.
"Okay, okay. Calm down." I said after seeing Kaoru’s expression. ’He looks like he hates Ryzen too.’
I sighed. "But what’s with the rumor anyway? Do you guys know who started it?"
Ace shrugged. "It’s definitely not
so..." We both looked at Andy.
"What? It’s not !" Andy quickly denied it while shaking both of his hands. "How could you think of that? Ellie’s dear to ! I will never spread rumors that could hurt her and her reputation!" He said with enthusiasm and with a really loud voice at that.
"I’m joking." Ace said.
"You don’t look like it! Show so emotions, will you!" Andy retorted.
Who could it be then? "I hope Night’s fans won’t believe such a stupid rumor."
That’s what I wished... but sotis, reality begs to differ.
"Stop spreading so disgusting rumors."
Bethany cornered
in the garden with her classmates. They’re all asking
about the rumor which I completely don’t want to talk about right now, but was forced to do so.
"I know nothing about it. I just got back to school."
Didn’t they all know that? Since Ace told
that these girls were waiting to ambush
the mont the rumor spread, but I was still in the middle of being kidnapped at that ti.
"Why should we believe you? Night’s stalker!"
I squinted. "Then why are you people asking ?"
They went silent after I asked them back. These girls probably didn’t expect that I’ll be talking back to them since I used to always just listen to them rant and wait for it to be over. ’It was too much of a hassle handling these girls.’
"I’m not the one who spread it., and those are baseless rumors." I sighed. "You’re all Night’s classmates from the advanced class but you believe those rumors? And here I thought you were all smartasses, but I guess I was wrong."
"What did you say!?"
’Does she has trouble hearing things?’ I took a deep breath. "I said it was quite stupid of you to believe—"
Bethany slapped , cutting
off. "I dare you to say that agai—"
I slapped Bethany back, stopping her from finishing her sentence and her friends gasped due to surprise.
"D-Did you just slapped ?"
I spat so blood inside my mouth after accidentally biting my tongue due to Bethany’s hard slap on my cheek. "Why? Didn’t you do the sa to ? You started it. Why are you surprised?" She looked at
with scornful eyes while holding onto her cheek.
"How dare you!"
I scoffed. ’I guess, I am changing.’ Even if this might not be for the better, I don’t want to accept all their hate because I didn’t deserve to be slapped by anyone.
"Are you stupid? Do you think it’ll end with just you slapping , and
accepting it without a fight?"
