Chapter 305: Tough love is scary

I stayed outside the balcony of my room to breathe. For obvious reasons, this was a way to escape. I felt like even though my chambers were far across from where Paris and the duke were, I would hear them. Paris’ scream or grunts or maybe his taunting peals of laughter.

"Pst!"

My brows rose as I gazed down, catching Sven waving at

with that annoying grin on his face. My expression remained the sa, cold and aloof, watching him stretch his legs. This ti, he didn’t ask

to move away as he sprung up, landing on the railing of the balcony safely.

"Safe!" he announced while keeping a beef jerky in between his teeth. When he gazed in my direction, I peeled my eyes away from him to look ahead.

"Wow... you’re not telling

to leave?"

"Will you even?" I returned without sparing him a look. I had my arms propped against the railing, inhaling the soft gust blowing past .

There was a mont of silence between us, but I could feel his gaze digging a hole in my temple. I ignored it. Not that I magically liked him or anything of the sort. I just didn’t have the energy to deal with him, to tell him to go, or just simply interact with him.

I wanted to pretend he wasn’t here — that he didn’t exist. I wanted nothing from him.

"Are you... angry?" he asked, and I ignored him. "I think you are. Is this because your brother got in trouble earlier?"

No answer.

"Aww... do you hate ?" this ti, I cast him a side-eye but kept my mouth shut. "So, you don’t?"

I rolled my eyes and breathed out, letting him engage in a one-sided conversation. Perhaps, if he speaks, I wouldn’t get to imagine the distressing screams or whatever I didn’t want myself to imagine.

"That’s weird. You look like you’re angry, but then you’re not. You don’t hate

as well," he crooned, and I could see him rub his chin through my peripheral vision. "I thought you’re upset with

since I got your brother in trouble."

"What gave you the impression I wasn’t upset with you from the very beginning?" I asked as I arched a brow. "Paris’ punishnts are things that will make him learn, so he wouldn’t do them again. I was upset, but not that upset."

"You an, you’re upset that is the only option you got?" I frowned at his correction, twisting my neck to face him. Sven shrugged, sporting an almost innocent look. "You’re scary. Tough love is scary!"

"Seriously. I won’t ask if you have any notion of proper decorum, but why do you keep on intruding my place?" I scoffed, clicking my tongue in annoyance. "Don’t you have other things to do other than talk to soone who is obviously not interested in a word you say? Not only you’re invading my personal space, but you’re also bedeviling , and I don’t like it."

Sven raised his hands and frowned. "Sorry. Didn’t know that’s what I made you feel."

"If you’re really sorry, then leave

alone and never bother . I don’t care if the thought of

bothers you. That’s not my fault, it’s yours. All I want is my peace back, that’s it."

"Alright..." his frown grew worse as his shoulders lowered.

I looked at him while keeping my chin up high, breathing heavily before averting my eyes away from him. I wanted to pat my back and tell myself I handled this situation well this ti. But my relief was short-lived.

"You really want

to leave?" he asked, making

gaze at him once again. "Alright, I know... but you see, there’s no harm in letting

stay and accompany you."

"I don’t need a company."

"Then, can you let

stay because I really like the view here...?"

"..."

I opened my mouth, but I ended up shutting it once again. I shook my head and looked away in disbelief. He wouldn’t leave; I knew it.

"Don’t talk to ," I said with a mild huff.

"But —"

"Not a sound." I glared at him and he eventually motioned in zipping his mouth shut. "I’m letting you stay only in the condition you won’t make a sound. Learn to respect my wishes, else I might truly end you."

Sven nodded while keeping his lips in a tight slash. I stared at him for several seconds and only looked away when I was certain he understood my language this ti. I took a deep breath and released it through my gaping mouth, eyes in the dense darkness ahead.

’It’s so silent...’ I thought after minutes of silence; Sven listened and didn’t make even the slightest noise, although I could still feel his gaze on my side. ’... it’s deafening.’

I bent over, lowering my head until my chin was touching my arms over the railings. I wanted silence, but at the sa ti, I didn’t want it. I thought I was losing my mind for not knowing what I wanted and what I didn’t anymore.

My brows twitched after a second until my entire face contorted at the loud chewing caressing my ears. When I couldn’t take it anymore, I glared daggers at Sven once again.

"Can you..." I closed my eyes and pinched the bridge of my nose. "... chew silently? I said not a sound, just which part of that sentence did you not understand?"

"The entire thing." His voice was lazy as he took another bite. "Whatever that cos out of your mouth contradicts the look in your eye.."

He pointed the beef jerky at

and shook his head in disappointnt. "I want to pretend I can’t see it, but it looks like you’ll start covering your ears at the piercing sound of silence. You’re welco."

"You..." I scoffed, balling my hands into a fist.

"What about ?" He blinked, staring at

directly with genuine wonder in his eyes.

"Nevermind."

In the end, all I could do was huff and look away. No one had seen through

— even the duke hadn’t noticed it. Everyone was just blind, but those pair of russet eyes that appeared so clear and honest seed to only see the truth.

Another thing to dislike him for.

I lowered my eyes as my mood hit an all-ti low. "I don’t like you," I whispered.
