Chapter 291: Put it back

In the Cross Kingdom, there were four powerful vampire clans: the royal Le Blac family, Hallewell, Frost, and Highmore. It was no secret that these four families were powerful and were equally vicious. But the most vicious of them all was the Highmore Clan, led by a twisted man, the Duke of Southcross, Octavian Highmore.

The three clans had found the sa equilibrium and had stayed in a neutral relationship with each other. However, because Octavian Highmore was a wicked man who would bow down to no one, our clan was ostracized and was isolated from the rest of the world.

Most people thought isolating us would affect us; it didn’t. Not even the slightest. If anything, the duchy even prospered... not in the best thods, though. The duchy prospered because of what others called ’illegal’ dealings, branding everyone in the duchy as felons.

Just several years ago, the Highmore Clan had done their business all alone until recently, when Octavian, my father, shook hands with the king. No one really knew the reason, but when everyone heard that my father and the king ca into friendly terms, everything changed.

It was as if nothing happened and all of a sudden, we were part of the Cross Kingdom once again. The only thing that didn’t change was the people in this madhouse.

As I had ntioned, the Highmore Clan was the most vicious among the four most powerful clans in the kingdom. One thing was because of the fearless Duke of Southcross. But also, because of the people working under him... that included his children.

A deep exhale slipped past my lips as I gazed down at the bound man near the divan I was sitting on. I shook my head, having this headache the more I thought about how I was in this situation in the first place.

"Fake it till you make you, is what they say..." I muttered, fixing my lazy posture, keeping my eyes on the bound man on the floor. "Knowing Lucien, he won’t give

a break once he returns. What should I do with this man?"

Although it was my order to abduct this werewolf, my only plan was to release him back into the wild. My one and only reason for doing all this were for Lucien to lose face by spreading that rumor before he returned from his conquest.

I kept my eyes on the man and sighed once again. I bent over, trying to reach him to check if he was still breathing. It proved it was harder to check the condition of his life if there was a palm length distance between the tip of my fingertips and his face. So, I stood up only to squat down near him.

"Is he really breathing?" I wondered, hovering my fingers in front of his nose. When his deep and hot breath hit the back of my fingers, I nodded in relief.

"It’s actually my first ti seeing a live werewolf as well," ca out a mumble, staring at the man’s face. Although he was blindfolded and his mouth was covered, it was easy to discern he was a catch. Just the shape of his face, his defined jaw, long narrow nose, and fleek brows were enough to know he was a beauty, tugging my curiosity about what he truly looked like.

’He’s probably still asleep. Why don’t you check?’ my subconscious mind encouraged

like the little devil she was. ’If he’s not asleep, he would’ve tried to break free from these ropes, right?’

I ntally nodded as I agreed with my brain. Only my inner self knew

well and that I suck at good-looking n. The only handso man I didn’t bat an eye on was my brother, Lucien. I hated his entire existence passionately, that his face wouldn’t even save him.

"Let’s see what you look like," I mumbled, raising my hand to take off his blindfold carefully. I subconsciously held my breath as soon as I clipped the blindfold in between my index and thumb, my shoulder tensing up as I pulled it away.

To my shock, as soon as the blindfold ca off, the man opened one of his eyes as if he simply had his eyes closed behind it, but was awake the entire ti. My pair of golden eyes instantly locked with his russet orb, holding my breath as we stared at each other for a mont.

When he opened one of his eyes, that was when my eyes dilated as I slumped back on my butt.

"You’re awake?" I blurted out, checking if he had shown any sign of wanting to break free in panic. To my relief, he stayed still but kept his naturally sharp eyes on .

"Goodness..." I pinched the space between my brows, getting a little complacent that he was still paralyzed from the drug injected into him. "Don’t worry. I don’t plan on hurting you unless you give

a reason."

As if on cue, the persona everyone knew instantly returned as I got into character. I snapped my eyes back at him, only to see him raise his chin towards the blindfold in my hands.

"What?" I asked, glancing at the blindfold in my hand, then at the cover of his mouth. "I don’t understand what you’re saying."

Since I was certain he couldn’t move just yet, I reached for the cover of his mouth, albeit carefully. Who knew if he would bite ? I heard werewolves had strong bites, and it wasn’t the sa as vampires’ fangs sinking into one’s flesh. So, I slid a finger inside the cloth near his cheek and pulled it down.

"What?" I repeated, gazing at this fatal beauty right before my eyes. ’Gosh... I’m born in the wrong race. I’m two hundred percent I am.’

I watched his bow-shaped lips part, and my mouth fell open when a warm baritone voice ca out. "Put it back," he said, but his pleasant voice distracted , so I asked mindlessly.

"What?"

"That one." He puckered his lips towards the blindfold in my hand. "Put it back. It’s so bright here."

"???"
