Chapter 239: Don’t ss with the witches

"That’s rude, Niall." She snapped her tongue with a frown. "You shouldn’t wake up like that. I hadn’t saved Wol yet."

SNAP!

Niall blinked his eyes when I pressed my forefinger on his forehead. He had been staring at

for a long ti with eyes dull and detached.

"You do not ss with the witches," I spoke when his eyes slowly ca back to life. Else, the witches will ss with you."

I retracted my finger away from him while he furrowed his brows lightly. Just now, a witch’s power was cast upon him, pulling him into his deepest and darkest nightmare.

’It seed Ellaine cast a spell upon

and having contact with Niall triggered that.’ I ntally nodded, peeling my eyes away from him back to the vast darkness ahead. ’She’s good. I didn’t even realize it.’

"Hah..." a dry laugh escaped his mouth while running his hand through his hair. "Those damn witches..."

"You can’t bla them. You massacred their brothers and sisters. This simple retaliation is to be expected." I cast him a side-eye. "It will be very disappointing if you didn’t expect this much."

"I’m sorry to disappoint Rinnie. I didn’t expect they will manage to get through my head." He clicked his tongue and pointed at his temple.

"You’re powerful and almost invincible, but ’almost’ isn’t enough." I shrugged.

"Speaking from experience?"

"If not from experience, where would I get the source of my confidence?"

Another dry laugh slipped past his lips as he rocked his head. Niall turned and propped his arms against the railings before he huffed.

"They’re really testing my patience... those witches. What do you think I’d do with them, Rinnie?" he asked, making

stare at his side profile while he looked ahead. A glint flashed across his piercing eyes, his expression solemn.

"You’re making a huge mistake, Niall," ca out a soft voice before I averted my eyes from him. "The witches are the people the vampires shouldn’t ss with. You are threatened with their existence for a reason. If you don’t act accordingly, you’ll fall into their trap to live your nightmares forever."

I felt him glance at

montarily. "I would think you care about

if I don’t know, you simply want

to change my mind. Sadly, you can’t."

"You were right, but I won’t force you to believe I care... even just a tiny bit."

"Well, that’s interesting." He rocked his head and chortled with a dark tone. "Alright. Let’s say you care. Tell , why do you care about the man who planned to kill you first, the second I retrieve my inheritance from those witches that stole from ?"

There was a long silence between us as I kept my eyes ahead. Niall kept his gaze on my side for a mont before he looked in the sa direction as I did.

"One way or another, I pity you," ca out a soft voice, which was enough to shatter the thick silence between us. "I understand your heart... that is why."

"You understand my heart, huh? Hence, you pity ?"

I glanced at him once again only to see his bitter and ridiculing smirk. "Do you think even if I choose you, you will find salvation?"

"It’s not about salvation, Lamlam." He pressed his lips. Its corner curved down and then smacked it. "It’s about being soone’s first."

This ti, he also gave

an indifferent side-eye. "Vampires are created solely to destroy the wolf. However, the wolf wouldn’t go down without fighting. We reproduced and created an army to fulfill our purpose. We... did everything, Lamb. Everything. To make our mother happy." He cocked his head, staring at

squarely while stressing each of his words.

"But in the end, whom did she favor? Did she choose us? Did she choose her children who only want to make her happy even if it ans killing our brother?" he continued and scoffed, averting his sharp eyes from . "No, Lam, she didn’t even hesitate to strike us all down. No rcy. Have you forgotten how we are forced to live in hiding just because we cannot stand the light?"

"We lived in fear, hiding from the sun, afraid we would turn into ash. What about the wolves? What sort of punishnt did they face after the war? Nothing. Sure. They nearly went extinct, but reproducing was too easy for a solution." Niall gazed at his palm and laughed mockingly. "If not for my damned father, who was driven mad by our mother and helped us as a ans of revenge on her, our kind will never stand under the sun."

He slowly set his eyes back to

and tilted his head. "If you truly understood our angst, you would also understand that we... I simply want to be soone’s first option as well. Soone who is more than just a terrible and rash mistake born out of desperation."

"Your want and actions speak differently." I pointed out, holding his pair of nacing eyes that revealed the depths of hatred within. It was bottomless.

"The difference between you and Daniel is that he changed his ways. He took the risk and opened his heart, putting it out there despite knowing people could crush it easily. Even when it was crushed and he was betrayed, he still chose to split himself in half instead of resorting to mass destruction."

I paused as my breathing grew heavier. "He was rewarded, Niall. His courage and determination were rewarded and now he lives, surrounded by good people. He chose a different path and strayed from his prophecy. What about you? Have you ever asked yourself, what were you doing all this ti? Wallow in pain? Get drowned by hatred? Was there a point in your life you stopped and looked at yourself in the mirror, and wondered if you ever valued yourself?"

"The problem with us, direct descendants of gods, is that we seek other people’s validation. We seek sothing we don’t even give to ourselves," I continued in the sa calm tone, looking ahead and inhaling the breeze blowing past .

"Wol understood that earlier than us, Niall. It’s not too late yet."
