Chapter 143: [Bonus Chapter] the mumbling wolf
"Didn’t you say you will kill ? That punch barely tickled. Are you fucking with ? That won’t kill ."
"Edge...?" I blinked twice, staring at the disappointnt in Edge’s eyes. His mumbling stopped, and he didn’t look terrified at all. If anything, he was just... upset. Why was he so upset about it?
"Ah..." the vampire suddenly rocked his head as if he rembered sothing. "The mumbling wolf. No wonder I felt like forgetting sothing. Now it makes sense why that mad dog left you alone with her."
He pressed his lips into a thin line, eyes on Edge. "I heard many tales of the mad dog in Ronmin, but I also heard about those bunch of lunatics in his pack." He placed a foot on top of Edge’s head and continued, "one of them is the mumbling wolf, who hums. How interesting. Now, I’m curious. Was the rumor true about the humming wolf? They said a certain depressed wolf mumble and cowers, but once he stopped mumbling, only ans... death since they can’t give him the death he was seeking."
The vampire pivoted on his heel on top of Edge’s head, pressing it down. But alas, Edge just kept his eyes on the vicious smirk plastered on the vampire. He didn’t even budge, nor did his head lowered at the weight on him.
"What the..." Edge casually clicked his tongue. "Are you... trying?"
In a blink of an eye, I held my breath when Edge just freed himself by brute force, grabbing the ankle of the vampire on his head. All I saw a mont later was Edge standing up, holding the vampire’s foot while stepping on his face with no conscience.
"Edge..." I called under my breath, watching him gaze at . "... are you... Edge?"
Was this a second persona? He looked like Edge, but the Edge I knew was soone who would have a nervous breakdown in the face of his enemies. But this one who was looking back at
had this complex expression. One thing I was sure of was that fear was not a part of it.
"Luna, how can you ask
if I am Edge? Of course, I am Edge. I’m just a bit disappointed that I was scared for nothing." He frowned as he gazed down at the vampire clawing at his calf. "I an, if they ca off strong, they should be strong, right? How can they be this fucking weak?"
I flinched when he suddenly stomped on the vampire’s jaw, but the lunatic laughed despite having his jaw crush. If anything, he seed amused at what was unfolding. How sick, I thought. Since this vampire was under his control, like a marionette, he was laughing since he couldn’t feel the pain.
"Stop laughing. You actually gave
a good scare, you know?!" As if they were friends, Edge clicked his tongue and kept stomping, and stomping, until so blood splashed on my face.
As soon as the thick liquid touched my cheek, I looked up at Edge. "Edge..." I called and he stopped, shifting his eyes to .
There was no trace of remorse in his eyes. Like an animal killing another animal or another living being, he just cast
a look as if waiting for what I was going to say.
’This... is a werewolf — a real one,’ I whispered in my head, seeing clearly what was a werewolf’s nature was. I couldn’t see it from Hugo before, but with Edge, it was very clear even a blind would see it.
A werewolf who could be cowardly and fearful, but could also be the most vicious and blood-thirsty of all.
"Hahaha! See, Lamb! This is what an actual wolf is — ack!" Again, Edge stomped the vampire’s jaw whilst pulling his ankle as if he wanted to tear it like paper. Although the vampire’s words ca out as slurs, I understood what he was trying to say.
He purposely didn’t put up a fight for
to see this. For
to see what cannot be unseen.
"Edge... that’s enough," I whispered, balling my hand into a fist, but he didn’t stop. Even when the vampire stopped laughing and making a sound, he released his anger by stomping over and over.
"I said..." I took a deep breath as the sight of the crushed head turned my stomach. "... that’s enough!"
This ti, thankfully, he stopped. Edge frowned as he let go of the ankle and withdrew his bloody feet away. If not for the countless deaths I had already witnessed, I wouldn’t have the courage to even speak. Much less look at Edge straight in the eye.
’Cruel.’ A voice in my head whispered. ’But it is not their fault, my child.’ The voice wasn’t mine nor it was Mother. It was soothing and full of sorrow, but unfamiliar.
’This world is cruel. Thus, they simply trying to survive. They’re pitiful.’
I clenched my teeth as I took a deep breath, eyes still on Edge. My lips parted, but the words I wanted to speak were stuck in my throat. Just hours ago, Bowie told
about the relics and the oracle. I was still confused about a lot of things. But then, the vampire slapped
with the horrific truth in Everfell.
Now, this.
’I wanted to go ho,’ I whispered in my heart. What ho? I was unsure. But that was what my heart desired at this mont. I... just wanted to go ho because just the sheer thought of it brings
peace.
In a mont of trance, I only realized Edge cut the rope around
when I felt it fall from . I glanced down montarily before looking up at him.
"We should go back, Luna," he said as if nothing happened. "We should head back. I’m sure everyone will be worried..."
Edge trailed off as he sniffed. I also furrowed my brows as I got a whiff of smoke and gasoline. The scent grew second faster than a second and before we knew it, I saw fire dancing outside the gap on the door.
