Chapter 258: Wipeout
Terrance took a deep breath, but felt it wasn’t enough. Seeing the stunned Fang and Houndoom, Terrance decided for the first ti to have Altaria take the initiative to attack.
Bang!
Altaria’s speed was incredible—just plain fast. As it descended, it brought with it a powerful wind pressure. The surrounding spectators could hear the howling wind, a testant to the level of Altaria’s speed. Facing such a swift attack, Houndoom dug its three toes into the ground, as if facing a formidable foe. Its triangular tail started to sway rapidly, revealing its nervousness.
“Houndoom, hurry up and use Roar!!” With its black nose exhaling hot air, Houndoom gritted it’s barely noticeable fangs. Hearing Fang’s command, Houndoom tried to open its mouth wide and unleash all its emotions. But the overwhelming aura of the descending Altaria slowed its thoughts by a beat. Just as the bluish-purple Dragon Claw ca sweeping down from Altaria’s front claws, Houndoom snarled, its whole body tensing up. However, with a “bang,” it was ruthlessly sent flying.
“Houndoom… is unable to battle,” declared the referee.
…
“Return, Houndoom, you did well.” Fang’s mood grew heavier. Houndoom hadn’t lasted long under Altaria’s attack. With such a short ti fra, the remaining two Pokémon might not have recovered yet.
Moreover… even if they had recovered, Fang glanced at Altaria and shuddered. Houndoom had been his longti partner, the ace of his team. But even so, it had been effortlessly insta-killed by a single Dragon Claw.
“Cloyster, you’re up.” Fang picked Cloyster’s Poké Ball. At this mont, Cloyster clearly hadn’t recovered yet. Under the effects of Stun Spore, its movents and reactions were a beat slower, utterly unable to keep up with Altaria’s thrice-boosted speed from Dragon Dance.
“Altaria, continue.” Seeing Cloyster co out, Terrance ordered.
Continue?
The spectators and Fang’s eyes widened. Altaria began to dance again, completely ignoring Cloyster, absorbed in its own dance!
Whoosh!!
The blue Ice Beam, Water Gun, and even Icicle Spear, which Cloyster listlessly unleashed, were effortlessly dodged by Altaria. With each successive Dragon Dance, its speed had been enhanced to an unimaginable degree!
“It can still endure,” Terrance observed Fang, who was drenched in sweat, silently assessing Altaria’s condition. After four rounds of Dragon Dance, Altaria’s body was under imnse strain. For a typical Pokémon, reaching this level of enhancent would have ant fully squeezing out its potential, and any further enhancent would overload its body, unable to bear the sudden surge of power and speed. But for Altaria, this was not an issue at all. Its astonishing Dragon-type bloodline allowed its physique to rival that of powerful Pokémon like Dragonite and Tyranitar.
“I understand now!!”
Fang’s eyes widened as he suddenly realized, inwardly berating himself for not understanding sooner. But even if he had figured out Terrance’s intentions earlier, he might not have been able to stop it.
“You’re setting up for the next match!” Fang clenched his fists. With Altaria’s current strength and stats, it could easily defeat him. Yet even so, Terrance continued to have Altaria further enhance itself…
Connecting this to the Battle Tower’s rules, where a round consists of seven consecutive matches…
In other words, Terrance intended to use the power accumulated in the first match to carry him through the rest of the matches in one go!
“You guessed right, but unfortunately, there’s no prize,” Terrance said.
That was indeed his plan. He had Beautifly co out first to use Stun Spore, aiming to weaken at least two of the opponent’s Pokémon, giving Altaria a stable environnt to power up.
Both Altaria and Beautifly were carrying his specially processed ‘Anti-Paralysis Berry,’ which makes them completely immune to this level of Paralysis
What seed like indiscriminate Stun Spore turned into a powerful tactic against the opponent thanks to Beautifly and Altaria’s preparation, putting Fang in a disadvantageous position.
“The fourth ti…” Terrance noted as Altaria completed another Dragon Dance. He felt that the ti was just right—Altaria’s strength had reached an unprecedented level.
“Now to conserve so stamina. With Altaria’s physical limits, it should be able to use Dragon Dance up to six tis!”
“Even though it’s already enough, this is just the first match, so keeping a trump card up the sleeve isn’t a bad idea.”
A gleam flashed in Terrance’s eyes as he gave Altaria the command to attack. After four Dragon Dance’s boost, Altaria’s speed was beyond Fang’s imagination. No matter how Cloyster tried to attack or dodge, it couldn’t withstand the onslaught.
“Cloyster… is unable to battle!”
“Magmar… is unable to battle!”
The referee, observing the one-sided situation, fell silent after announcing the results. The audience below was the sa, all eyes on Altaria in the arena. It was clear now that Terrance had no intention of recalling Altaria… which spelled trouble for the upcoming competitors.
Altaria, after four Dragon Dance’s boost, had reached an unimaginable level of power. Most ordinary opponents would be defeated in a single move.
The second competitor to face Terrance was visibly nervous. He had watched the entire first match, and even without the Dragon Dance’s boosts, Altaria would be difficult to handle. The battle was still one-sided. No matter what move he used, Altaria’s Dragon Claw would easily shatter it. It was incredibly fierce.
If not by direct attacks, Altaria would use its extraordinary speed to slam Dragon Claw into the ground, and even the shockwaves would knock out multiple Pokémon, displaying a ruthlessly brutal battle style. The sheer destructive power was terrifying, instantly making Altaria a Pokémon that competitors would rather avoid more than Growlithe.
Facing twenty-one opponents alone is an extraordinary achievent, but given the montum Altaria was exhibiting at the mont…the onlookers were speechless. Even the competitors invited by Mr. Scott asked themselves: is their Pokémon… a match for this Altaria?”
The answer was clear: against a Dragon Dance-boosted Altaria… even their main team’s ace would be swatted away in one hit, suffering massive injuries and fainting on the spot.
“We absolutely cannot give it a chance to use Dragon Dance…” Watching Altaria, who had already single-handedly taken down a large number of opponents, most Trainers were breaking out in a cold sweat. It was too brutal—this was a total wipeout in the making!
