Chapter 765: Chapter 520: Major Project (Part 1)

In the early morning, the sound of firecrackers erupted from the docks of the Bailong Port Shipyard as the new ship "Linghai Cargo 2018," financed by the Old Han Family for the third ti through loans, blew its whistle and slowly sailed away from the dock.

A thousand-ton ship is not the sa as a hundred-ton vessel; it requires at least a Captain, a Chief Officer or Second Officer, a chanical Engineer, and a sailor to et the minimum staffing.

To et the minimum crew requirents, Mrs. Han, a seasoned sailor, boarded the ship once again.

Little Han Han was raised by her, and looking at her now waving at them from her mother-in-law’s arms, Mrs. Han felt a complex mix of emotions and couldn’t help but shed tears.

Both the father-in-law and mother-in-law ca to see them off, and half of the firecrackers that were set off earlier were bought by them.

Starting from today, Little Han Han would be looked after by her mother-in-law, who had retired and worked in the health room of the retirent center, where the work was very leisurely, and she could bring Little Han Han with her every day to work. There were reportedly several little kids in the large courtyard of the retirent center.

Director Ge, Sister Wei, and Old Qian also ca, and Director Ge said many auspicious phrases during the departure.

Xunxun had school today, and Big Sister-in-Law Ji Xiaohong couldn’t make it, but her sister-in-law, Ji Xiaojun’s wife, ca with a child in her arms.

Han Ning and Zhang Jiangkun were also on the dock waving goodbye.

Today, Han Ning was not only sending off the new ship on its "maiden voyage," but she was also seeing off her father-in-law.

Dongdong’s grandfather, being a relative as well as a neighbor of the shipping company, had helped with buying a house with his own money, and his wife had previously accompanied Dongdong to East Sea for his schooling.

Dongdong had already transferred to a middle school in Pudong for his junior high, living in a relative’s house rented by Bai Shen Passenger Liner’s onboard police officer Shao Lei.

Dongdong’s grandfather, Old Zhang, had run out of room in his house and wanted to earn more to alleviate his son’s and daughter-in-law’s financial burden, deciding to take up his old trade of running a ship.

Their daughter and son-in-law had exhausted themselves for the Han family over the years, and after consulting with his spouse, Old Han decided not to sell the old ship after all, but to give it directly to their relative, as he had also been helping his daughter and son-in-law.

Several cities around were reinforcing the river dykes, and the riverside resembled a large construction site, requiring supplies of sand and stone everywhere.

The new ship had a larger tonnage, and one trip was equivalent to ten trips by a smaller ship. It was foreseeable that they would make a considerable profit by running it through the winter.

Although Old Zhang was using an old ship, it was still possible to earn four to five thousand a month, so the expenses of Dongdong’s education in East Sea were hardly a concern.

If they could get through this winter, everything would get better.

Friend Han was full of confidence, the only thing he found unusual was that his daughter-in-law, due to her busy work, was unable to co. She was the Port Director, and without her checking the new ship, Friend Han felt sowhat uneasy...

"Han Han, be good, and grandma will buy you sothing to eat when I co back!"

"Relatives, Director Ge, Old Qian, we are leaving, you all know my pager number; if there’s anything, give

a call!"

"Don’t worry, we are here for your family. Wishing you safe travels and a wealth of earnings!"

The two ships, one large and one small, drifted further and further away.

Master Han and Director Xiang were going to take Little Han Han back to the city area in a while. Sister Wei really didn’t want to let go, feeling that Bailong Port had suddenly beco very deserted.

Old Qian felt the sa way and couldn’t help asking: "Master Han, what are Salted Fish and Ningning busy with? Why haven’t they co back to send us off?"

"They are busy repairing a ship."

"Repairing a ship?"

"It seems to be a repair of a foreign cargo ship over ten thousand tons. No one else knows how to fix it except San’er, who is now in overall charge. The foreign ship needs to be towed to Sanhe for repairs, and Ningning, now the Linghai Port Director, is responsible for the towing and providing security during the berthing period."

The kids were busier than ever; Xiao Yu didn’t co back this sumr and reportedly can’t return for the New Year either. Now even Salted Fish and Ningning are too busy to return to Bailong Port.

Old Qian, feeling a bit hosick, murmured, "Master Han, Director Ge, counting the days, Yu Zhen is about to give birth, I plan to go to Hanwu in a few days."

"Are you going alone?"

"I’m not taking the train to East Sea this ti; I’m taking a ship from Binjiang, it’s very convenient."

"What about the house?"

"There’s nothing valuable in the house except for a TV, I’ll move the TV to your dorm before I leave."

"What about the sheep that Yanfeng has?"

Old Qian couldn’t miss such an important event as his daughter-in-law giving birth.

Zhang Jiangkun hurriedly said: "There’s

for the chickens, ducks, and sheep, I’ll help feed them."

Xiang Fan had taken leave to co to Bailong Port to send off the new ship and couldn’t afford to delay too much longer. Holding Little Han Han in his arms, he apologized, "Sister Wei, Director Ge, we have to go back to work, we’ll head back first."

"Go on, drive slowly on your way."

"Sister Wei, I know you must feel lonely when Han Han is taken away. You should go visit the city area with Director Ge when you have ti."

"I definitely will, I’ll go whenever I have ti, you should get going. Han Han, say goodbye to Grandma Wei."

...

At the sa ti, Wang Wenhong, the head of the Water Police Station, was receiving a call from the Military District’s Political Commissioner Chen.

Although it is only November and the spring festival is still a long way off, this year, cities along the river and coastline throughout the province are all reinforcing the flood controls of the Jianghai, which not only involves huge investnts in engineering but also includes inspections from provincial teams to check on the progress and quality of the work.

The city leaders, concerned there would not be sufficient ti by the end of the year, plan to visit Ningbo in a few days to offer their greetings to the Binjiang Ship of the East Sea Fleet. Commander Wang had gone to a eting at the Provincial Military District, and Political Commissioner Chen was to accompany the city leaders on their visit.

The city leaders had ntioned bringing Salted Fish to see the large ships, and considering that they were visiting the troops and that Han Yu was an advanced individual in supporting both the army and the governnt, they decided to have the Military District take charge of the arrangents.

Wang Wenhong, understanding the whole picture, laughed helplessly: "Political Commissioner Chen, sorry, but I don’t think Salted Fish will be able to make it."

"Why can’t he go, he was personally recomnded by Secretary Lu! I went to a eting at the City Committee yesterday, and Secretary Lu and Mayor Wang joked that Salted Fish is an adjunct staff mber of the Police Departnt’s Security Unit. Bringing Salted Fish along for the official visit to Zhehai would allow them to enjoy the security treatnt reserved for senior officials."
