Chapter 113: Chapter 110 Assistant: Patch
Assistant? Why here.
But regardless, one more person ans one more source of strength!
Dal resolutely chose to summon, even though the baldy shown on Patch’s Summoning Mark didn’t look much like a good guy.
But everyone’s an adult here, how can we judge by appearance? Dal thought Patch looked fine. How can this face be called deceitful? It should be called full of wisdom instead.
He likes smart people!
Looking back at the battlefield, the fight had gradually reached a fever pitch.
Seven against one, no, Tal is dead, now it’s six against one, but the outco wasn’t really in much doubt.
The Hunter’s fighting style was grand and wide-ranging, not skilled at Marathon nor adept at Ring Capture and other deceitful moves. Besides Transformation Slash often catching people off-guard with its range and causing injuries, there was also the ghost-like dodging that frequently made adventurers miss their attacks.
One can’t really bla the adventurers for their low accuracy; Gong Qiying had embedded the Hunter with extrely high evasion capabilities, sowhat aided by reading commands.
If soone were willing to risk severe injury and get close to restrain the Hunter, they might find an opening for attack.
"Bang!"
A gunshot rang out, and an adventurer trying to sneak attack was imdiately shot to his knees, but before the Hunter could finish him, Roger, who had sneaked up using Invisibility, drove him back with a sword thrust.
"What the hell is that weapon?" Maru frowned and said, "It’s so loud, could it be enchanted with Thunder Magic?"
Drew shook his head; he had not detected any trace of magic on the handgun, aning the Hunter’s firearm was purely a physical attack.
Such an exotic weapon was unheard of; he really wanted to take it back for a thorough study.
He began to regret not learning the enchantnt "Remove Your Weapon" before.
"Bang!"
Another shot, and Roger’s shoulder erupted with blood, but it was just a regular shot, and did not trigger Gun Counter.
In Sain, if Gun Counter wasn’t triggered, the power of the shot was not considered significant for a well-trained adventurer, about the sa as being hit by a Low Tier Magic Missile.
"Grab him, Roger!"
Drew shouted, and Roger, understanding the command, braced himself against the pain of two wounds to reach for the Hunter.
"Mid-Tier Slow Technique!"
Drew spent a multiple of his Magic Power to instantly cast a mid-tier spell and finally hit!
However, it hit both the Hunter and Roger, diffusing the effect of the magic.
"I’m on it, I’m on it!"
Maru’s figure flashed in front of the Hunter, and a diagonal cut suddenly appeared on his chest.
The Hunter swung his blade to counter-attack, but his motion, slowed by the Slow Technique, was easily dodged.
"Ah!"
Just as Roger was about to deliver a heavy blow to his heart, the Hunter suddenly swallowed sothing, roared, and sohow shrugged off the Slow Technique!
One strike gutted Roger, spilling his intestines out.
"Damn!"
The fight seed to be back to square one, but then, a whizzing sound ca, and sothing was hurled towards the Hunter.
He chopped the flying object with his blade, only to be splashed by a greasy substance inside.
Slling it, it seed to be oil?
The Hunter turned around and saw a shiny bald man holding a spear in one hand and a Big Shield in the other, throwing a Fla Pot at him.
Of course, it missed him, but the greasiness all over his body made the Hunter slip and hindered his movents.
"Patch, you take left, I’ll take right!"
Dal suddenly rushed out to join Patch in the attack, the latter didn’t say a word but flashed a mischievous smile, charging forward with the Big Shield.
Shield Stab was such a cheeky move, the Hunter struggled to deal with it, especially since Patch persistently held up his shield.
"Where did this guy co from?" Maru blinked.
"Seems like an Assistant," Drew spoke in amazent: "Soone’s still in the mood to draw symbols to help strangers now?"
"His face looks so cunning..." Maru complained.
Sohow, after Patch joined the fight, it seed to lighten up; the Hunter’s offense appeared to slow, just dodging and shooting.
The "bang, bang, bang" echoed through Fran Fort, like a series of thunder claps.
"Whoa!" Maru nearly got swept by a Saw at Blade, stumbled, and fell to the ground; Patch beside her extended a helping hand.
"Thank, thank you," Maru said, bowing her head in thanks.
Patch didn’t speak, just smiled at her and returned to the fight.
Seems like a nice person, I shouldn’t have judged by appearance. Maru suddenly felt ashad.
The Hunter’s fatigue began to show, and just as everyone seized the opportunity to surge forward—
"Ao ao ao!"
Suddenly, the sound of a multitude of Monsters erupted nearby!
"That weapon’s noise attracted the Monsters!" the adventurers realized instantly; no wonder the Hunter kept shooting from the start.
So despicable!
A horde of ferocious Gollums charged at the adventurers, and looking back at the Hunter, he suddenly pulled out sothing like a small knife and slashed through the air.
The Soul-sucking Ghost "Hunter" has returned to his original world.
Damn it!
Everyone’s eyes widened; fleeing when losing!?
Received the Hunter’s Gift: Hunting Manual.
You can now view information on all hunted prey.
Seems like so magical new stuff has been unlocked.
But there’s no ti to care about this now!
Dozens, hundreds of Monsters rushed madly forward, a small Monster Tide, totally not within their capability to fight.
"Run!" Drew shouted, just about to flee when he was suddenly pulled back.
"Take, take
with you..." the fallen Roger said weakly on the ground.
"How are you still alive with your stomach torn open!" Even though he complained with his words, Drew still carried Roger on his back, intestines dragging as they made a run for it.
Maru was just about to follow when she suddenly turned back, anxiously looking towards where Patch was.
[Assistant "Patch" has returned to his original world]
Well, there’s no need to worry now.
Pursued by the Monsters, the adventurers began a desperate flight for their lives.
They thought the Gollums were all there was, but it turned out they were just the appetizer as more and more Monsters appeared, relentlessly chasing everyone.
"Could that guy really have lured all these over?" Maru yelled. The gunshots had been loud, but surely they couldn’t have attracted so many Monsters. It was almost as if all the Monsters from Fran Fort had been drawn over!
It felt as though the Dungeon was intentionally collaborating with the Hunter to pull off such a stunt.
The barely maintained formation began to disintegrate under the onslaught of the Monster Tide, and by the ti Maru regained her senses, she had shaken off the Monsters but had beco separated from the group.
It seed like she was at the edge of Fran Fort. Ahead of her lay an unfathomably deep cliff, and a fall would surely an certain death.
Next to the cliff was a cave with torches burning inside, as if beckoning her to co closer.
The more enticing sothing looked, the more dangerous it was—Maru knew this very well. She imdiately beca alert and dismissed the idea of approaching the cave.
"Hey, little sister, hurry over here, don’t let the Monsters spot you."
"Who’s talking?"
An unfamiliar voice ca through, its tone sharp and smug, conveying a sense of treachery.
"It’s , I just helped you out, hurry to the cave," the voice said.
Maru slowly made her way over and spotted a golden bald head.
It was Patch!
He was now squatting next to the torch, grinning slyly at Maru.
"Didn’t you leave?" Maru asked in surprise.
Her guard lowered upon seeing Patch, not just because he had helped her before, but also because of one thing—people nowadays believed that Assistants were good people.
The most popular Assistant at the mont was Steeran, who had garnered a lot of favor among the crowds.
Then there were the followers of the Starfire Church who, with the help of the Fla Cultivator, had all beco Sun Warriors, and aside from praying to Fire God Gwyn every day, they would patrol the Dungeon and help others.
Although their strength was not on par with Steeran’s, and they often failed when it ca to the Sun, the re act of selflessly aiding others had already boosted their favorability significantly.
There were also a few scattered adventurers who had been drawn to beco Sun Warriors and, in their spare ti, would help others while also gathering souls to enhance their own powers.
Thus, the equation Sun Warrior = good person spread among the adventurers.
The Patch in front of her wasn’t a Sun Warrior, but he was an Assistant, so he must have a kind heart, right?
"It’s a long story, have a seat," Patch sighed and said, "I did go back, but the mont I did, I drew the Summoning Mark, and then you guys summoned
again. I was chased by Monsters and had no chance to use the Shield Stab, so I ran and ran until I finally found this safe spot."
"The Shield Stab is a tool that helps
return," he added helpfully to explain.
"I’m sorry..." Maru apologized, sowhat embarrassed.
"No worries, no worries. This way I can keep helping you guys, hehe," Patch smiled, which improved Maru’s impression of him even more.
The two chatted idly while resting in the cave when suddenly, Patch pointed at a box and said:
"I see you’ve been eyeing that box over there. To tell you the truth, I’ve picked up a few items along the way and put them in there. Do you want to take so?"
"Ah? That doesn’t seem right," Maru shook her head repeatedly.
"It’s fine, just take a bit. I can’t carry it all away anyway," Patch insisted with a chuckle: "Go on, have a look."
Maru relented and slowly opened the box, looking sowhat nervous.
Nothing happened.
Inside were indeed a number of items, such as Moss Balls, Green Flower Grass, potions, and the like.
"Phew..."
Maru suddenly breathed a sigh of relief; she didn’t even know what she had been nervous about. Was she afraid that Patch would harm her?
She casually took so items. Although they weren’t anything valuable, they entirely eradicated any last traces of caution she had towards Patch.
Willingness to share loot indicated friendship, an unspoken rule among adventurers.
"Have we rested enough? Should we head out?" Maru was eager to find her teammates.
"Wait a minute," Patch suddenly said:
"I think I dropped sothing over there. Could you help
check it out?"
He was pointing towards the cliff.
"Fell down? That’s no longer retrievable, right?" Maru was puzzled, but trusting Patch, she went over to the cliff and peered down.
Below was a cloud of fog, making it impossible to see clearly anything, but there seed to be so light points twinkling.
"It looks like there really is sothing. I’ll try to see if I can get it!" she said.
However...
Patch’s voice suddenly ca from behind her.
"No need, thank you for being willing to help , you little fool."
"Bang!"
A massive force hit Maru from behind. She was already leaning out over the cliff and now couldn’t maintain her balance!
"Yaaahhh!"
In the mont she fell from the cliff, she saw Patch grinning.
Why would you kick ? Aren’t we companions?
Up until the mont she died from the fall, Maru couldn’t understand why, but sothing beca clear to her:
Patch! If I ever et you again, I will make sure to smack you hard in the face!
Maru’s fate was not unique.
On that day, all the adventurers who t the three conditions of arriving at Fran Fort, being invaded by Hunters, and summoning Patch, all suffered the sa fate.
The next day, a wanted notice for Patch was posted at the adventurer’s guild.
